Angels lose to a Homophobe

The Angels come to Tampa Bay having lost a series to the Tigers. This was after getting swept by the Mariners. Losing that many and then facing the Rays spelt disaster tonight.

So it was up to Tucker Davidson to shut down a playoff contender. He did decently well, going 5 innings, allowing just 2 runs off of 6 hits and 3 walks. Sure, only 2 strikeouts, but a decent start.

But of course, that meant the offense had to score 3 runs, which was much more than they could possibly be reasoned to score, being the Angels and all.

However, the real enemy was on the other side, as notable homophobe Jeffery Springs was on the mound for the Rays. The terrible person was a great pitcher though, allowing the Angels to only score one measly run off of him.

Highlighted Recap

It was a pitching duel to start, with both the son of David and the Springs of evil evenly matched. That is, until the 4th inning when a single brought home the first run, for the Rays.

1-0 TB

Mike Trout did tie the game up in the 5th, however.

TIED GAME!

Unfortunately, Davidson gave it right back, allowing a home run.

2-1 Rays

The bullpen kept it close, however, the offense couldn’t even score a second run all game. Angels lose 2-1.

Meh, just a little stumble into forbidden territory. Doesn’t negate all the great work and dedication that the masthead and many commenters put in here to make it fun. Just like so many games this season, I plan on forgetting this day happened and reporting for duty tomorrow. 🙂

Well, at least we weren’t beaten by a homophone. Jeffery Spreengz.

What a shitty title and link(s) to what and who is generally a great masthead imo. As if the season wasn’t bad enough.

Enough is enough! The more political comments get made, the more work it will be to tidy up. I’m getting the admins in on this. Please chill out in the meantime.

Then maybe the original poster shouldn’t have made a political opinion in the first place.

First off, I thought a no politics rule was in effect here.

Second, the guy is entitled to his religious convictions.

Protected by the First Amendment of our Constitution.

Third could it be because he is white male Christian?

Crickets about Latin players who refused to do same.

Entire post is in rules violation and should be deleted.

About 2/3rds of your post is also a rule violation. I agree with your first point that this article clearly violates the no-politics rule, but the rest of your post was entirely unnecessary.

Well we’re off the rails now aren’t we.

Anything to silence opposing opinions.

Without fully going there – while I do agree the byline invites political and divisive opinions (which are inappropriate for this thread), justifying homophobic beliefs with references to religious beliefs and the First Amendment is equally out-of-bounds. We certainly have the right to practice religion in this Country as we see fit, and we do have the right to free speech, but there is no right to do either of those things in a manner that infringes on other people’s freedoms and protected rights. Homosexuality is a protected class per the Supreme Court. There is no right that exists to treat homosexuals differently in society than anyone else solely on the basis of their sexual preferences. So homophobia is not Constitutionally protected or a Constitutional “right”. Quite the opposite.

For better click/shock factor you could have titled this “homophobia springs eternal”

I have to admit, when I first read this post I thought, man, this Jeffery Springs guy must have assaulted one of his past teammates, or spray-painted hate speech onto someone’s car.
Then I read the articles, and it looks like this guy was, in his own way, right or wrong, trying to wrestle with how to live out his convictions from his political/religious/etc beliefs. I have no idea what else that dude (and the others) did, only what I saw in the articles.

I have to question whether the tone/content of this post crosses the line into the area of promoting/attacking political/religious beliefs that is supposed to be strongly off-limits in this community.

The left has never been known for being tolerant of opposing viewpoints.

I’d rather be on the side that is intolerant of hate. Maybe we can disagree on best ways to provide for society, equal opportunity, taxation policies, etc. But when it comes to racism, misogyny, homophobia; I’m pretty fucking intolerant of anyone defending that.

And anyone posting about the left being intolerant of opposing viewpoints obviously has been in a cryogenic freezer when ignoring how the Bushies defended two unnecessary wars and now how the Trumpies are defending their racist, incompetent cult leader.

The problem here though is that we’ve agreed not to discuss whether we would rather be on the side that is intolerant of hate, and we shouldn’t make an exception for a favored opinion.

Ah, “racist”, the go to word of liberals everywhere. Also, Democrats also voted for the Iraq war, so it wasn’t just “The Bushies.”

Expressing your own political opinion, which is inappropriate to do on this site, is not the solution to the inappropriate politics in the article.

Just to be clear, I agree with the LQTBQ nights and all that, but I also know people struggle with it due to religious concerns. Dismissing them as homophobic isn’t going to help them change their minds

“The left has never been known for being tolerant of opposing viewpoints.”

I think it is safe to say that the farther you get away from the center, either left or right, the less tolerant people become.

I find it concerning that you posted this 9 hours ago and yet this article hasn’t been changed to remove the politics. The second article is baseball relevant and an appropriate link, but the first article and the way this article was written have no place on this website.

Squid pulled after getting 2 hits. Goose replaces Renny at 3b, Renny moves to 2b with Fletch taking over SS. The Rays naturally hit the ball to Goose who wasn’t even close to picking up the ball with his glove as he charged in. Could Rengifo pulled that play off? We’ll never know.
