LA Angels Tuesday News Crash: Optioned

Steven Duggar was optioned to triple-A Salt Lake to make room for Mike Trout. I guess I’m OK with that.

The Rays reinstated Nick Anderson from the 60 day IL and immediately optioned him down to the minors. They designated Phoenix Sanders for assignment to make room for the move.

The Orioles outrighted Brett Phillips who accepted his assignment to triple-A. The Braves just designated Ryan Goins for assignment. He had been with the big club for five days and had not appeared in a game. The Tigers released Wily Peralta.

Kyle Hendricks is done for this season. He wants to try to get healthy for next year. Nathan Eovaldi is liable to go on the injured list due to neck and shoulder soreness.

Marcell Ozuna, who was arrested for drunk driving a couple of days ago, received a lot of boos from the fans when he took the field on Sunday.

Cedric Mullins committed to play for Team USA in the World Baseball Classic.

Aaron Judge got plunked but there was not any fighting. Gerrit Cole acted like he wanted to brawl. Said Alek Manoah, “If Gerrit wants to do something, he can walk past the Audi sign next time.”

The ball just went right through the glove. Where have we seen that kind of shenanigans before? Perhaps understandably, Ryan McMahon will be retiring that glove. Speaking of the Giants, they just signed Ken Giles to a minor league deal.

As much as people want to celebrate Arte selling, my gut tells me that this guarantees we will not sign Ohtani to an extension. Owners do not usually sign a player to a $400MM contract right before selling.

And that means we really screwed up not trading him a month ago.

a gut is not a reliable source. ohtani pays for himself in Japan endorsements and fans with fists full of cash coming to the ballpark no matter where he plays. If New Owner moves the club to Timbuktu you can bet there will soon be a direct flight routes established from Narita shortly after the team touches down.

OK, sure, my gut is not a reliable source, that is true. I think it is another way of saying “my opinion or prediction”. Which is what most of us do here.

… but I really would rather your gut be correct than mine on this matter, by the way…

There is a lawyer guy that advertises on the radio around here that does “Business Worth Evaluation” for estate and retirement planning. Vairy possible that is all it amounts to.

I don’t think he’d put that statement out there if he wasn’t at least seriously considering selling the team. He can “test waters” a lot more quietly than this. If owning a shit ton of land and developing it is his family’s goal then this is the perfect time to get a ton of cash and watch real estate prices fall as we build back better…. then buy a bunch of said land and build better better and make billions.

Be careful what you wish for, not a fan of Arte, but concerned the new owner will move the team to lost wages or portland. I don’t live in the LA area anymore, but feel the Angels belong in the LA area.

Can live with Anaheim and/or Long Beach just don’t want to see them moved to Las Vegas or Portland.

Is the spot where the blimp hangers are/were still there wasn’t there a rumor a while back that they were moving there. Is the spot in Long Beach where the old Long Beach Arena was (lot’s of fond memories of concerts there). If you can’t tell I have not been back in LA for about 20 years, so I am sure much has changed since I was last down there.

CBS calls Minasian the second hottest seat among failing GM’s.
2. Perry Minasian, Los Angeles Angels
Minasian is caught in an unenviable position. He has two of the best players in baseball under his employ, yet his best path toward building a winner (and maximizing the rest of Mike Trout’s prime) might involve trading Shohei Ohtani this offseason. The question is whether or not owner Arte Moreno will sign off on such a deal, or if he’ll consider Minasian’s fate to be tied to Ohtani’s. Given that Minasian has failed in his two attempts to surround Trout and Ohtani with a supporting cast good enough to make the playoffs, the clock might be ticking regardless. Minasian seems aware of it, too: he’s been aggressive in pushing several of his top draft picks from this class to the Double-A level, suggesting they could be in line to debut next spring.

I am starting to think our manager is being told what moves to make during the game, why else would he have pulled that insane move removing Squid for a pinch hitter who can’t hit. Hey Squid, is hitting over .300 in last 10 games or so and Goose is flightless and only heading South quick.

I’m all for bring PTP back, but keeping Rojas here is not helping a thing. Bring back the Plumber or McKinnon.

Rooting for Squid to get to .200 is actually fun.

Look at last night scoreboard and see all the pitchers scores, impressive if you like pitching as I do. Next season the Manfraud should change the strike zone and lower the mound. Arm pits to top of the knees and lower 4 inches off the mound.

Umpires are guessing at the bottom of the knees anyway, so raise the K zone to top of the knees. Need to combat the 100+ mph fastball and this helps some plus it’s harder to make the curve work by lowering the mound.

Good morning, Brethren Posters, (How’s that for an opening? 😀 ). Have some fun with this little ditty of a game. You will find eleven of 30 team records listed, but with no-name attached to the W-L record. All you have to do is fill in the name. These teams are not the better teams in MLB this season, no, quite opposite as a matter of fact. These teams are fighting it out for the “Lotto Five” spots. The list will be in the right order and postered around 3:30ish later today. This is about having some fun, not to see who is paying the most attention. Make your list and check it later today.

  1. 41-82 .333 This Team is not the Ottawa Senators but the ____ _________.
  2. 45-68 .366 This Team once had a Blue Moon play for them, the _______ _______.
  3. 47-76 .382 Lu Blue played 1B for this team for many years, the _______ _____.
  4. 47-75 .385 A grave digger, Richie Hebner played for these guys, the _____ _____.
  5. 48-72 .400 First team in MLB to play under the lights, the _______ ____.
  6. 50-74 .403 They had a White at 2B, he was very Frank about it, the _ _ ______.
  7. 52-70 .426 This team was in the Hunt at 2B for a couple of years, the _ _ _____.
  8. 52-69 .430 Hands once plied his trade here with the Vulture Phil, the _____ ____.
  9. 53-70 .431 Matt was on Holiday where the grass grows green in LF, the ____ ___.
  10. 53-69 .434 They build them up just to tear them down town, the _____ _______.
  11. 55-66 .455 Saying Grace over at First was appropriate here, the ______ ______.

Just fill in the team names and you will see the teams as of today who are in the “Lotto Hunt”. Have fun.
