LA Angels Tuesday News Crash:

The Angels designated Jose Rojas for assignment. Max Stassi and Archie Bradley are back. MLB.com has the Angels at #7 in their current power rankings, down from #5. Patrick Sandoval was firing on all cylinders in Sunday’s game. Thor better step up in tonight’s game if he doesn’t want to lose any ground in the pecking order of Angels starters. Happy birthday Bearclaw! In this one, from Bleacher Report, the Angels starters are called tenth best. The Angels bats were called number one! Patrick Sandoval and Raisel Iglesias both got a shout out from the Pitching Ninja yesterday. Here is Shohei’s leadoff homer from Sunday.

Josh Donaldson got a one game suspension and an undisclosed fine for the comment he made to Tim Anderson on Saturday.

Trevor Bauer’s grievance hearing in which he appeals his suspension began this week, although it could be going on for a long time.

Angels win 5-4 tonight, Wade bunts for a hit, steals 2nd, steals 3rd, scores on an E-4.
I have some great medication, fun to watch the game with too. Ok I might be using My Imagination (Temptations 1965) too much. But hey!, we will win and go 10 over .500.

GA says his favorite stadium to hit in was Yankee Stadium, especially against Andy Petitte, who he hit over .400 against in his career. The pitcher who owned him, Randy Johnson, because of how fast he threw outside of the zone. I laugh because I remember the fear Nolan Ryan put into batters.

Ummm, no.

That is now two consecutive stupid comments by you.

Predicting a poor offensive game or even a loss does not make someone a “doomer.”

But more importantly, I have said for some time now that this team is going to the playoffs.

You obviously have not been paying attention.

You predicted doom for last nights game (a game they won, btw), hence you’re a doomer. You don’t get to make specific parameters about what the term means, sorry.

I stopped paying attention to what you say after you were so completely wrong about the Will Smith/Chris Rock incident. Have you accepted the slap was real yet, or are you still set in your opinion that it was fake and everything that’s happened since was part of the clever ruse?

I think this year’s draft presents a chance to really do that. We’ve somehow gone from being all athletes and no pitching to nearly the other way around.

This year I think the team can truly go BPA and mix in college and high school kids. College kids should help fill that position player gap at the higher levels, high school kids present that oh so great upside.

Hey GPB! We know the Angels can hit the ball, but what about pitching the ball? Glad you asked, I have a few numbers here at the quarter mark for you. In team ERA the team can boost compared to last season as we are third in the league behind only the NYY and the archrivals Houton Asstros. We are tied with Houston at 3! with 7 team SHO. Iggy has us at #4 in saves. Not all is wine and roses though, AL average for giving up HR’s is 42 and the Angels have given up 41 and that sticks us in at #9 in the AL. Giving up BB seems to almost always means giving up runs and the team sits at #9 here too with126, and AL average is 127. Tampa Bay comes in at number one with 109, NYY 106 and Blue Jays at 109. Every other category we are just a hair above average. The teams pitching is very good, and the defense is in excellent shape. So there is no reason to be pessimistic about the team’s chances going down the road as we are about to enter the Twilight Zone part of the season, so don’t adjust your TV sets. 😄

Jeff Joiner

To piggyback off my previous post, I think our pitchers are more comfortable pitching to contact this year due to the great defense behind them. Sometimes, that contact will be hard and a home run will be the result.

However, if those are mostly solo shots because the defense is getting guys out and the staff isn’t walking a ton of hitters, I can live with that. We’re basically walking half a hitter per game more than Tampa Bay. That’s doable.

What team in the American League is the best fielding team? Yankee? Blue Jays? Tampa? Minnesota? Houston? Angels? The answer may surprise you, especially the Doomers, but the Angels are the best fielding team in the American League. In addition we are #3 in Put Outs, meaning that if a batter hits the ball, the Angels will throw you out. How about if you get on first base, what are the chances that is as far as you go. Well, the Angels are #4 in DP’s. Not bad considering the team’s best fielding infielder is injured and he plays SS/2B.

The Put Outs have everything to do with the infield and that includes 1ST Base. Watch the game on TV? Then you get to see one of the finest fielding First Baseman in the game in Angels history. We have had great fielders through the years too, Vic Power, Jim Spencer, Wally Joyner. J.T. Snow, Darrin Erstad, and now Jarred Walsh. The things Walsh can do is field to his right as good as anyone and with great range because of his eyes and anticipation (Carly Simon 1973) along with awesome footwork. Hit baseballs flying fast down the line are snapped out of the air. Best of all is his stretching out from the bag to bring in a poor throw for an out. I have seen them all through the years, Keith Hernandez, Steve Garvey come to mind, but the best overall fielding at 1ST I have ever seen is Walsh. And he has his head in the game at all times and his has a great arm too. The arm comes in handy on relays. Oh, he can hit a little too. 😀

This defense is a lot of fun to watch, especially at the Big A. There are plenty of plays we accept as routine when we watch a game on TV but when you see the quick feet, soft hands, and nice release up front you realize just how difficult a lot of those routine plays are.

I think the pitching staff knows the defense is legit and is more comfortable throwing strikes. One hand feeding the other.

Tim Anderson’s comparison of himself to Jackie Robinson was far more disrespectful — to the legacy of Jackie Robinson — than anything Donaldson said.

gitchogritchoffmypettis

Reply to  AnAngelsFan

Here’s the thing, I like Tim Anderson. He’s really good and fun to watch. But he made a mistake. He wants to be Billy Bigballs and talk smack about various topics, chatter on the field, flip his bat, etc etc etc. That’s fine.

But then he pussed out with the JR42 comment. That was his attempt to do what he wants and then throw up his all purpose “it’s a black thing” racism forcefield instead of taking the heat that comes along with being hot. That type of “I’m gonna make noise and everyone better like it and be nice to me cause (hand over heart) Jackie…” BS is exactly the type of thing that draws the attention of a perpetual rage engine like Donaldson. A guy who declares he’s going to do what ever he wants and doesn’t care what you think about it…. but also you better not express any negativity towards him over it…. was gonna catch hell from one grit pump or another. Donaldson, Strickland, MadBum, Scherzer, Kela, there are dozens of candidates. And the only persons ramming a blob of race into the situation is the black fella, not the white guy (as far as we know).

Anderson should do what he wants how he wants. When people want to have a problem with it he should ignore them and do what he wants. It’s his personality, his choices and actions, and the heat he takes for them are his too. He should expect guys like Donaldson to have a problem with him and continue on accordingly, not enlist his entire org in a conflict he asked for.

GrandpaBaseball
Legend

Wasn’t it LaRussa that brought up the race issue? But I agree with you, and I am not a fan of Donaldson’s and do enjoy watching Anderson play, the Angels should be so lucky to have him at SS.

No, I mean anytime you drop Jackie Robinson into it, instead of just saying “I like to have a good time, and what I’m doing is a good time to me, so that’s that….” you set the compass of the conversation to RACE and not MY ACTIONS ARE MINE.

And this is how you get a mongoose like Donaldson making comments to you about Robinson.

If people have a problem with you now it’s not that you are a polarizing person, it’s that you are polarizing cause the people with a problem are racist. Need proof? Look, that guy’s white. And he has a problem with you.

La Russa can burn his signal brightly because Anderson brought up Robinson…. and no one is allowed to have anything negative to say about anything that has rubbed itself against Jackie Robinson. If they do, racist.

When you were a little guy out on the field as a kid, did you ever dream of hitting a Grand Slam Bottom of the ninth or tenth inning? Most of us did, and I think it is normal to dream big, right? Well, yesterday, Paul Goldsmith did just that, hit a bottom of the tenth inning Grand Salami for the Cardinals.

Jose Ramirez is now at 41 RBI’s for the Guardians, Pete Alonzo is at 40 RBI’s over in the National League. And to stay on top of the American League Homerun race, “Here come the Judge” is at 17 HR’s for the Yankees. That is a 65 HR pace for the Giant and don’t look now but he is staying healthy and we go to NYC very soon, Yikes, And Stanton is no day at the beach either.

Unfortunately, I can see that rule becoming permanent. Owners like it because it reduces stadium operating costs without affecting ticket sales and TV revenue. Players like it because they play less for the same money. Good morning my friends, it’s going to be a beautiful day in SoCal today. Angels Starters are only tenth best out of thirty? I know that Houston and New York Yankees have better starting staffs, and Brewers and Blue Jays are very good, but I way I see it we should be the 6th beast in starting staff. Ok maybe the Dodgers if and when Kershaw gets really going again, and somehow even with their best starter the Mets are good too. That still means that we would be 9th best in MLB. Yes, I am aware that I am biased.

Thor is a concern of mine, I am hoping to see the best yet of Thor, but again the red flag is flowing in the wind.

I believe that everyone here agrees that Bauer is at best a flea bag of morals, kinky in the bedroom as he can be. But I also believe that he has been unjustly and over punished by MLB. He grievance hearing before an arbitrator is going to prove this and if MLB loses, he should be awarded the money in his contract plus even more so, allowed to become a free agent. That’s the stance that I’m taking and feel that is just. But who am I to decide without all the facts that maybe have not been released?

Moving on, It will be good to have Stassi back in uniform again. AB will be welcomed back too, but Bearclaw has been surprisingly good also.

Have a great day and see you all later.
