LA Angels Weekend News Crash: New Faces in New Places

Trying to keep up with the pace of trades today is tough. Having this article be even remotely close to up to date by the time it publishes is impossible.

As of now it is radio silence regarding the Angels. No buying, no selling, just sitting in mediocrity looking like they will stay there.

The one tidbit of Angels news was Boras mouthpiece Heyman saying the Angels were in on Max Scherzer. More on that later.

One story that will keep going is the aftermath of the death of Tyler Skaggs. The trial for Eric Kay, accused of giving Skaggs the fatal drugs, has again been postponed.

In more positive news, Peter Gammons laid some serious love on David Fletcher in The Athletic.

So let’s see where we are…

The day started off with plenty of rumors that Scherzer was headed to San Diego. Then, suddenly, the Dodgers swooped in with two marquee prospects and a couple of decent ones to land both Mad Max and Trea Turner.

And neither the Dodgers or Nationals were done.

The Dodgers traded for Danny Duffy fair to round out their rotation. He doesn’t even change color schemes.

While Duffy gets to keep his familiar white with blue trim, Ryan Tepera has it even better. He gets traded from the Cubs to the White Sox and doesn’t even have to move. Although I wouldn’t recommend hanging out across the street from his new ballpark. Wrigleyville it ain’t.

The Nationals had a fire sale. Daniel Hudson went to San Diego, Kyle Schwarber to the roid sux. That was on the heels of Brad Hand already being shipped to Toronto. Usually this much change in DC happens after an election.

All your lefty power bats belong to the Yanks. First they snagged Joey Gallo. then they snagged Anthony Rizzo.

Perhaps what they really needed was Spider Tack. Aroldis Chapman’s ERA has ballooned from 0.39 to 4.11 since the crack down. I’m sure that’s just a coincidence, though.

Seattle and Tampa Bay had to do a deal together just because.

Baseball is back at the Olympics and Team USA is being skippered by former Angels skipper Mike Scioscia. Here’s a breakdown on how the tournament works.

Can you name the players on Team USA? Don’t feel alone. But check out the roster and betting odds to win the gold.

It was a rough day for former halo Hector Santiago. First he got caught with the sticky icky, now he’s suspended for PEDs.

Alright I want to see Adell, Detmers, and C-Rod come up at this point. It makes the most sense to let some of these guys get their feet wet and contribute since we didn’t add anyone. Especially Adell since we’re basically running out a AAA squad on the offensive side of things right now.

Adell was so awful last season after being called up, I’d be fine letting him get more seasoning in the minors where there’s less pressure and less talent.

ah, thanks. That must be what Jeff Fletcher meant when he said “spoke too soon”. His tweet had the other Peguero.

and this guy looks decent, too.

Do the Yanks have 3 “Peguero’s”? Must be like Smith in the US.

I think we’re paying Heaney’s salary, too. Heaney “and cash”.

well there’s the deadline. There might have been trades sent in before 1 pm that are waiting for approval.

I’ve already said I’m sorry to see Heaney go but I’m not displeased to get a guy with those stats. He’s 25, though, which might be old for AA.

That’s just his actually age. Pujols was 21 in high school

Ironically, Heaney is one guy I am happy we dealt away.

I don’t believe in making trades just to do one or a few, but to cut out the deadwood and improve the team, yeah, I am all for it …..

Should be interesting to see what they got for a SP with a 5.3 ERA and 2 months on his contract. I’m guessing it won’t be much.

Remember we got Patrick Sandoval for Machete. We also got Stassi for about nothing. Sometimes these trades work out.

So Perry is not going to trade Raisel when teams are giving out top prospects like if it’s candy on Halloween? Awesome.

Rangers get Spencer Howard in return, who’s a top pitching prospect. That could suck for us over the next several years.

the (fantasy?) upside of doing nothing: we get to keep players who are better than what we’ve got in AAA. We win a few more games. Heaney really does turn it around and become a good f—— player. He and Raisel re-sign with us. Cobb, too. With no Pujols money on the books we spend on a top pitcher. (ha! as if we would!) 2022 here we come!

JakeTaylor

2022 is a wash if you hope that shit happens. How many years now have we been waiting for Heaney to turn things around and become a good pitcher? It ain’t happening. He has his moments but the guy is terribly inconsistent. I really could care less if he’s back next season and same goes for Cobb.

You are a wise man JakeTaylor! So tired of holding onto pitchers with “great stuff” who don’t know how to win baseball games. Heaney never amounted to a hill of beans. Second coming of Garrett Richards, who some of you were sure was going to turn into Cy Young also. He certainly didn’t do so in San Diego or Boston. At least we got some lottery tickets for Heaney. Bundy, Heaney and Richards have convinced me to stay far away from pitchers from Oklahoma!

Guess no one is buying what we are selling and we certainly aren’t buying.

Another lame duck season. Oh well, I’ll still go to games and spend my money so Arte can ru(i)n everything from how the parking lines are painted to what players we don’t or do get.

I would like to see Perry make moves to strengthen the future, however it’s also important to understand that sometimes the best trades are the ones not made.

I like the 2021 draft, we’ll just have to wait and see how things evolve over the next several months.

We haven’t finished .500 in 5 years. It’s all just getting old. Showing up for 5-6 at bats. We haven’t had pitching in forever.

Did well with the Iglesias twins, filled a need. Obviously failed with the other four pitchers. Goose and Gold Glove were nice pickups. So far the his 1st draft is potentially very strong. Not ready to dump him after 6 months. He has a huge task in fixing the pitching staff, won’t happen in one season.
