Dylan Bundy had a rough first inning but settled down nicely afterwards. However, by the time the visitors were retired the first time the halos were down by 3 and that was all Oakland needed.
The A’s added one more run in the 7th on a throwing error by Jose Quintana. Insert Quintana throwing poorly joke here.
The bats were silent but the lineup currently resembles more of a Spring Training split squad game than anything. Oakland’s pitching looked good but the Angels did leave two runners on in back to back innings in the middle of the game. A key hit here or there changes the complexion of the game.
On the positive side, Angels newcomer Austin Warren looked promising in his MLB debut.
Glad to see Austin up here. You might remember I interviewed him at the old site.
With the lineup missing Trout, Rendon, and Walsh runs are likely going to be scarce for this series. But, let’s see what the Angels can do tomorrow.
Bundy will be wearing either green & gold or Halloween colors ( orange & black ) next year in the Bay Area. He’s become completely unglued here with us ( and yes ITYS on CTPG last year when you all thought we scored a lump of gold with him. ) Bad coaching and a losing culture and environment can do that to a losing pitcher who actually has ability like him and Matt Harvey.
Gawd darn those logos are disgusting. Thanks
Best unis in MLB from both teams. Cleveland Guardians & Detroit are next, and those FL teams ( ugh!!! ). What the hell are they thinking in Florida?
The Tigers have the worst uniforms in baseball. Boring as hell.
I do agree the classic A’s unis are among the top three in baseball. Either the lemon yellow tops with white pants or the kelly green tops circa 1979-80. Those were great.
The best are the classic Padres brown tops, hat with white pants (circa 1980).
I agree. Take those down!!!!!!!!!!!!!
We’re playing the A’s – it’s time to assume the position

The ONLY exciting part of the game last night was Austin Warren pitching.
It was the most exciting part for sure.
But don’t forget Iglesias’ slick glove throw almost DP ball.
And Shohei stepping in each time was exciting until I noticed that the A’s were simply pitching around him.
Of course they are going to pitch around Ohtani. There is no bat threat around him and you can induce the DP with the next hitter up.
No, no, no, wait, hold on, don’t tell me, lemme guess: We’re not going to see Trout, Rendon, or Walsh hit again this season, right?
Well, we’re going tomorrow night. PLEEZ hit the ball, occasionally, maybe a couple times in the same inning, PLEEZ!
The worst to be dominated DOMINATED by the A’s.
The WORSIEST!
Warren’s debut was fun. One of the tiniest pitchers I’ve seen in a while, but he had decent stuff. Iggy’s backhanded glove-only toss to 2nd to get the lead runner was the Angels highlight. Shohei and Fletch didn’t hit, and we hardly expect much from anyone else now, and they didn’t (did) disappoint. Mayfield making errors at a higher rate than I would have guessed, since he was always a “good field/no hit” guy. Eaton should’ve had that running catch in right, but…that’s our season. A crummy game to watch, all around. NEXT!
Mayfield really putting a damper in my IIWP that I started…I wanted to pencil him in as the starting SS in 2022
Really? In AAA?
The A’s are stupid heads.
A more nuanced and insightful analysis would be something like this:
“The A’s are a buncha stupid, stupid, stupid, poopyheads.”
(You’re welcome.)
F the selling garbage. There is no one to replace all the players you guys want out. The Angels might as well forfeit their remaining games.
This is the closest thing that they can do while still being able to sell tickets and merchandise.
The Angels Roster
I am tired of being a Walmart team. I hate MLB so much right now for what they have done the last couple of seasons. Manfred is a complete fraud. I hope all realize that. Stop supporting this sport until it gets its act together.
By brad, for the umpteenth time
So 50% off a bag of balls? Does that mean a sandwich size ziplock bag of balls?
Bundy and Q,
But but but … they didn’t actually pitch badly. Bundy was pulled after 72 pitches (why?). Quintana did ok too, and would have had a scoreless long relief appearance if not for the error. He didn’t even let the inherited runners score (so an anomaly in the Angels pen).
Sure, I want us to get a decent starter – but after this game the take away is not ‘bad Bundy, bad Q’. We scored no runs. That isn’t on the pitching.
We are wasting Bundy and Q!!!
Too funny 😂
good interview, Jeff, and it puts good perspective on the trip from the draft, through the minors, and now to tonight’s appearance.
Thanks. When his agent (same as Fletcher and some other guys I’ve interviewed) texted me yesterday to tell me he was promoted I was stoked for him. Very nice guy.
I 2nd this comment. Not sure if I read it the first time, thanks for the link. Seeing the family’s reaction on Twitter was also priceless.
Thanks for the recap Jeff! Im also convinced Perry wanted Bundy out there today to lose it to justify selling. Hope he doesn’t stand pat tomorrow.
It’s 1 am in the east so I don’t expect anything tonight. He’s got just a few hours from when he wakes up tomorrow. I believe we’ll get something like this:
Ward for who?
Heaney for what?
Iglesias for that!?
and then we’ll have 60 games left, hoping to win half somehow.
GMs are still up on the East Coast. League office isn’t open, but these dudes make big bucks partially because there are a handful of manic days where stress and Adderall replace sleep. This is one of them.
I despise Oakland for not being imbeciles like the monkeys who run this team.
Love that movie. Somebody once asked me what was the first thing I said to my future wife, and I borrowed Eddie Murphy’s line- “you know baby, once you try a dumpy bald guy you never go back”. Not really, but it sure sounded good.
