Have the paper bags started showing up at the Big A yet?

It really does feel pointless. Can you imagine if the Dodgers or Yankees were this bad in a year they were trying to win and the beat writers not hammering them every day?

Blow it up or sell the team.

As I was so eloquently reminded by Jed york as a 49ers fan, you don’t fire owners (after he said everyone was accountable in the organization).

I understand the want to blow it up but that basically means trading away Shohei and Trout (otherwise known as the only players available to purchase merch from in the team stores) so I don’t see that happening.

I guess we have to embrace the suck and enjoy the occasional personal or team success.

You can’t get beat up if the team has no beat writers. The decision by the Times, the Register (SC News group), The Athletic and other publications to no longer dedicate a full time journalist to this team should be enough of an indictment especially when considering the Angels have not one but 2 generational players.

For an advertising man, maybe the threat of becoming completely irrelevant will be too much to bear and he’ll finally unload this team.

Quote from Maddon after tonight’s loss, the 9th in 12 games. We have the worst ERA and defense. Apparently Iglesias forgot how to play SS when he got traded to us, and yet, note the discerning, deeply penetrating analysis of manager Maddon here:

“It’s frustrating, no question it is,” manager Joe Maddon said of the recent skid. “But I’ve been around it before. To me, these guys need to see and feel my support. They need to see my consistency in order for us to come out the other side, and that’s my overarching game plan when I walk in the door every day.
“I can’t fault their work and their energy. I’m watching it. I see it.”

So: Just “see” his support, consistency and game plan. He, in turn, “sees” their work and energy.

Glad we got that straightened out! I imagine the players physically “see” Joe, but they’re not looking for the support (where is it? hidden?), consistency (under his cap? take off yer cap, Joe!), and game plan (nail it to the bulletin board, Joe, they might “see: it there?).

What is “see” a metaphor for here?

(Quotes from Mike DiGiovanna’s article about the game at the LA Times)

Honestly I’m tired of it. In the 70s and 80s at least we knew what we were getting. Years like ‘79 and ‘86 were special and unexpected. The rest of the time we were mediocre and we lived with it.

That was then, this is now. This team is maddening as it continues to get worse with the best player in baseball and Ohtani, Rendon not to mention Fletch and Walsh. This team should be decent but it’s terrible.

I keep coming to the same conclusion. It’s not working. It hasn’t been working. I don’t see how it’s going to change. The only conclusion I reach is to blow it up.so we suck for a few years. It can’t be any worse than this.

The rest of the team (minus C-Rod) is AAA quality. 20 holes on a 26 man team.

Exactly. I hate the idea of rebuilding. But what are the choices? We have given this experiment 6 seasons. Nothing changes. Time to pull the ripcord in my opinion.

1987-2001 were pretty rough years, and 1995 maddening. I still don’t think the ball thrown in from the bullpen in the one-game playoff was the correct one in the disastrous 7th inning.

1987-2001 were rough – that’s a 14 year span.

So go back 14 years and we are in 2007. That was a great team as was 2008 and 2009. Then we had some additional decent years leading to 2014 – a team that should have gone deep in the playoffs.

Bottom line – we were very spoiled from 2002 through 2014. So it’s ‘only’ been 7 years of suck. We may be in the middle of a suckage cycle.

As a fan since ‘61, I have a no trade clause but wish I didn’t. I’ve never felt as hopeless as a fan until this year. There is nothing that is going to turn this around. Ever. Adding contemptible Hunter Strickland to the mix is the cherry on top.

That’s what I’m saying. In the modern game if you are stuck in the middle it never changes. It’s time to blow it up and then rebuild with a 5 year plan. Top 5 draft picks for a few years. Rebuild the farm. Start over.

Old enough to know both the Rolling Stones and the Soup Dragons.

Old enough to know we will be much, much older before this shitty team is worth getting excited about. Old enough to know this is actually one of the worst teams in baseball. Old enough to know that it’s bad enough that Trout being traded is very likely in the coming years.

Old enough to know The Soup Dragons version of that song is better.

Is it possible this team can’t just forfeit the rest of the games and start moving on to next season? Really would help with not having to watch this on a nightly basis knowing what the outcome is going to be before the game starts.

Depends. If Moreno likes not having any fans in the stands then he can just continue his shitty ways. Fans need to stop supporting this team. Also, if you want to sign a petition to oust Moreno please do. Go to change.org. Get enough signatures to at least show him we are sick of him.

I could be wrong. I could always be wrong. But I think if Arte started losing money his reaction wouldn’t be to spend to put a better team on the field. It would be to shed salaries, leaving us with an even worse situation…a Pittsburgh type of thing.

The only plausible option is for Arte to buy the Diamondbacks to stay close to his beloved Arizona. To enable that, he’d need to sell the Angels. Other than that, he not going anywhere.

He will never lose money. He may go as far to break even, but he will never lose money. That is why he has the blackouts. All that TV money gold he collects on a regular basis.

It is something to do. They will come. He may even raise the ticket prices on his resales, just like the travel industry is doing now. Charge more for less.

People feel they were trapped and that is their right to go and travel to do things. People just need to do things.

At least I bet on the A’s tonight, and also parlayed it with the Dodgers going against Kazmir pitching for the first time since 2016. Can’t believe the Dodgers were only moderate favorites.

Also the thing about Upton. World class athlete, can’t be bothered to become even a decent defensive OF. Should have avoided a player like that like the plague. No desire to actually win games, just get personal stats.

Upton is basically just a slightly worse hitting Pujols that is an even worse defender. Yea he’s owed one more year, is that the only thing making the Angels hold on to him at this point?

The sad thing is…I really do love this team. It’s been a part of my life for my WHOLE life. We DO have talent..but something is seriously wrong…ownership is killing it…does not care about outcomes. I will always be an Angels fan…ALWAYS…even when being critical of them.

The thing with the merch is. Arte gets the same take to matter what is bought. Angels gear, dats money. New Your Yankees baseball gear, dats money. Plus he never has to give a discount to the other teams gear to liquidate unpopular names from the inventory.

With the money spent on some of these guys…? A team has to find a way and a will to win even when the best player goes out. As was mentioned earlier in the thread…”these guys are mentally defeated”…it’s evident in their body language throughout the game. If they’re just there for the money, then it says a lot about them…the fans deserve better…but Arte has made it his hallmark that he is willing to pay big bucks for no return…Wells, Wilson, Hamilton, Pujols, Upton… and many more. So we keep getting more of the same.
