Reid Detmers and Brandon Marsh both cracked the Bleacher Report top 100 prospects list. Jeremiah Jackson and Jordyn Adams both got honorable mentions. Bleacher Report lists the Angels as dark horse candidates to land DJ LeMahieu. He plans to reject the Yankees qualifying offer. Nolan Arenado and Alex Gordon are the Platinum Glove winners for the National League and the American League respectively.
Nine members of the Dodgers organization and one family member have tested positive for COVID-19. I wonder how that happened. Supposedly these are people who were not inside the playoff bubble. Tony Clark refers to the coronavirus shutdown as a lockout. It doesn’t look like the coming labor negotiations are going to be very friendly. Braves fans are expressing buyer’s remorse over the return in the Tommy Milone trade. Finally, Vlad Guerrero Jr. hopes to be back at third base in 2021. He took responsibility for letting himself get so far out of shape.
I’m a little concerned that I just don’t care. I expect nothing other than more of the same.
In the “you can’t make this stuff up” category Jeff Lunhow is suing the Astros for breach of contract. If this goes forward he could spill a ton of dirt on the organization and, according to him, how the agreement between Manfred and Crane on punishment was made.
Dude is a piece of garbage but he holds the leverage here. Pay him or bad press galore. You know which way I’m rooting ha ha.
We deserve to here the truth!
Hopefully he can also explain why Boston was hit with tissue paper
Hear, Hear, I will listen to the week explanation Two. (R.I.P. Norn Cosby)
Hope for the sake of Baseball in general and being transparent overall that he blows the whistle on Crane and Manfred so the world may finally see what an true horse’s butt Manfred is, always has been and always will be. Manfred is ruining the game and the business of MLB. But alas Lunhow has learned how to motivate the system and will be paid off.
I’ve been thinking about Michael Hill as PoBO and I’m actually warming to the idea.
It’s hard to assess how much he was responsible for but the Marlins did a terrific job drafting, signing, and developing talent over the last decade. Apart from the obvious group of Stanton/Yelich/Ozuna/Realmuto/Fernandez they also drafted Heaney, Austin Nola and Austin Barnes, Chris Paddack, Josh Naylor, Brad Hand, Mark Cahna, Trevor Williams, and Brian Anderson with a few other fringe players peppered in. They even identified Ken Giles and Blake Trienen early and tried for them as late round picks though they didn’t sign. And, for those begging for pitching, have a look at their 2020 draft.
I like what they’ve done in trades as well though the results vary some. Even with a mandate to shed Stanton’s salary (saved $265m) they still got a nice prospect return, with both players expected to contribute at the major league level. Yelich’s return was a bit of a whiff but I like the guys they targeted and they still might be MLB regulars. Realmuto got them a top of the rotation arm and a toolsy C who’s MLB caliber. Ozuna’s package is the crown jewel for me. They got another top of the rotation arm in Gallen, a mid rotation arm in Alcantra, and a 4th OF (Sierra).
Seems to me that Miami hits alot more often than not and, maybe with an owner who’s not ping ponging between competitive teams and fire sales, Hill can settle in and thrive.
Nice. You’ve sold me. If this is a 1-2 punch setup I’d still love to snag Billy Owens from Oakland as the GM. Can’t count how many years I’ve looked at Oakland’s minor league talent, especially pitching, and wished the Angels had it. Imagine both improving our talent development and crippling a division rival in one move.
But even with Hill/Owens Arte will still own the team so we’d still have to hate these hires because obviously we will be focusing on prospects and drafts and wasting Trout’s prime and stuff.
Arte would need to commit to a full scouting and development budget. I’d imagine a flooded free agent market for the next 2-3 years plus the Pujols/Upton money falling off the books could keep Hill competitive but Owens can’t scout, draft, sign, and develop players on his own.
we don’t know how responsible Hill was, just as we didn’t know what Eppler did in NY. We liked the idea, though. NYY always has competitive teams.
Meanwhile the Marlins are looking at Eppler!!! to replace Hill

Chance of butts in seats by the early part of the season (i.e. before June) just went up.

Not peer reviewed yet. So right now, that’s just a PR notice.
So don’t resume licking doorknobs yet? Check.
I’m still staying off lawns for now
Lawns have been where i’ve spent most of my time this year. All we can do is sit with friends outside and distanced, haha.
Taking your mask off might be a more effective deterrent compared to a shotgun these days, haha.
The problem is that it’s MY lawn you’ve been spending your time on…. 😁
Our lawn, komrade
Mmmmmm….. doorknobs….. delicious.
Don’t believe me? Ask the dishes.
Was expecting positive news from at least one of the contenders in Nov. Pfizer is legit and with Gottlieb on their board, not prone to overstate their case. Always cautious with healthy skepticism, but this is really good news.
From what Bloomberg was saying the real reason for optimism is that these companies have been sharing data on an unprecedented scale so the next round of trials should also be promising.
Almost as much as the stock market and interest rates today. I’d love to see the world get back to normal, but not yet doing cartwheels.
I understand your point, but there are some lessons from this saga that if learned, could make a new normal much better than the old.
Definitely. We need to learn from this. Especially considering the place that launched it is back to operating like business as usual so another one will be coming down the pipe.
If there’s anything I hope we’ve learned is how great we’ve had it. How great it is to be around family and friends. How much we need real human interaction.
The Angels are a dark horse for an expensive middle infielder that will also cost a draft pick when he doesn’t pitch and there are other cheaper, but good options available?
I hope that horse is really, really dark.
There is a cheaper, fan favorite, middle IF on the market, with superb defense (Simba). I have been suggesting we sign him for 3/30 (or perhaps even less?) and keep Fletch at 2B. Do we need more pop, or rather focus on signing pitching with world class defense behind them?
