Angels Lose 7-2, Clinch Losing Season

In a short season, anything can happen. 2020 was always going to be funky. Yet to clinch a losing season is a massive disappointment for the Angels and their fans.

As always, pitching was the culprit, as Julio Teheran and his terrible ‘No such thing as a bad one year deal’ one year deal has cost the team yet again. He did not even make it through two innings this afternoon. 3 earned runs in just one inning pitched, with two home runs.

Cam Bedrosian came in and allowed a run as well in his 1 and 1/3 innings. Patrick Sandoval then pitched 4 and 1/3 innings, also allowing a run. Ty Buttrey came in after that, pitching only 2/3 of an inning, allowing 2 runs, both solo home runs.

Funny enough, Cam wasn’t the worst Angels pitcher today

Noé Ramirez had to come in to save Butters and he had help from the ump to end the inning. He pitched 2/3 of an inning and gave up no runs. Hansel Robles pitched the 9th and also gave up no runs. Overall the Angels pitching was bad and should feel bad.

Not that the offense helped. Bats were quiet vs Kyle Cody, who wasn’t even a lefty! He is a Cy Rookie though, pitching 5 innings and allowing only 1 run. Kyle was pulled due to injury concerns, however, which gave the Angels offense hope. They got a run off of the new pitcher in the 6th, but left men on base. 4 LOBsters today.

Ty Buttrey was very Butters today, goes well with the LOBsters

Angels are now 23-31. Clinched a losing season, and a season series loss vs Texas. One more game vs Texas tomorrow, then an off day and season will end with two at San Diego and 3 in Los Angeles.

Yes, Eppler made some smart moves that worked out. Unfortunately, the complete inability of anybody in the organization to find, develop or sign actual major league pitching is pretty much in his lap. Then again, under Dipoto we didn’t have a sterling record bringing up pitchers, either. This organization seems utterly incapable of bringing draftees along and turning them into major league pitchers. As a result of albatross contracts, that leaves the GM to become a fully certified dumpster diver, wading through the pitching debris washed up on the low tide of the waiver wire.

Julio Teheran will be waived after his words with Maddon.
A crash and burn all around FA for Billy. He should be fired after this nuclear Chernobyl on the diamond, but Arte’s a cheap coward…….and will keep BE and just hope everything blows over just like last season. Tyler Skaggs passing, the second half collapse……same deal here in covid 2020 ( maybe the fans are unsophisticated enough to forgive the collapse and teaser, but no cigar yet again ) Those expensive European SUV’s mean a casual fan experience and a quick trip to Cost Plus World Market after a Sunday loss. 😆

Blow it up. This team is much further away than “just a couple of pitchers”.

It realistically could take until Trout’s age 33 season before this team can legitimately compete for a championship. Yeah – Arte wasted him.

Not really sure it’s a “massive disappointment” – Disappointing, yes… but let’s be real, this pitching staff was never one to get a good warm of fuzzy feeling about. It’s the teams Achilles heel.

Teheran was good in the pen, we should have left him there

I feel like this season is so Billy Eppler. Like just everything about it. Never once did his plans translate into on field success. I’m so excited for our new GM, hopefully be a competent one. Our biggest signing this offseason will be our general manager. As fans we’ve been through way too much for a team with such great talent. Honestly it’s not all Epplers fault but hey we needed someone to blame.

He’s got Bundy to his credit. After that: pretty huge drop-off. I mean humongous drop-off.

Tyler Skaggs, Covid 19 weren’t his fault.
But the awful 4 from last season and Julio Teheran are his. Unfortunately even with this 5th straight dubious losing season honor, Arte might still keep him because he can’t stand negative controversy. 😫 The man can’t scout his way out of a wet paper bag or evaluate talent at all. Be aware of this team’s inability for Individual players to put together back to back good season by anybody not named Mike Trout…..LOL!!!!
So will Dylan Bundy be next season’s Hansel Robles?

I really like Billy Eppler. He made some good trades; Simba, LaStella, Bundy, Petit and some other minor riff-raff like Goodwin. He really did not have much to trade with to be very honest. The farm system was ill constructed before he came so nobody wanted our lower level players after Newcombe.

He tried to sign Corbin and Cole. Just outmuscled. Some of his FA signings were abysmal; Harvey, Cahill, Teheran, Allen but they were on one year contracts, bye. The Cozart deal received great praise On HH when he signed but his performance caused mutiny amongst us. Justin Upton had 4-years at $88M remaining when the Angels enticed him to stay with 1-year additional @ $18M. But I believe Upton was going to stay anyway. I don’t hang this on Billy..

Billy has good connection with the players, I like his demeanor. Came up through the Yankees front office so I had high hopes. Mike Trout is close, with him and that counts for a lot but maybe not enough to save Billy as I think Arte is done with him as evident by The Maddon and Rendon signings. New manager did not do shit for us

The jury is still out on his farm however and this is an area I wish was better. He drafted some raw talent that will take 3-5 years to get to the Show if they even develop. Maybe they will. He did get involved and sign some international prospects too but they are years off and all shortstops. It would have been nice to get a shot in the arm from the last four years from his drafts but nobody has cracked the lineup. Adell needs more time and fire in his belly. Fletch was a JedI disciple. I am just not sure we maximized the draft selections. Easy to look back.

We’ll see what happens but I don’t see Eppler lasting past September 30th.
