LA Angels Monday News Crash: Trade Deadline

Rise and shine! The MLB trade deadline is at 1 pm Pacific today. As the Angels play a day game right after that, all trades should be ironed out by game start and it’s fair to say that any player that takes the field for the Halos has not been moved. Billy Eppler has already moved Tommy La Stella. Jason Castro is already gone. In a matter of hours, we will know if any of Dylan Bundy, Andrelton Simmons, Brian Goodwin, or anyone else has been traded.

The Angels took two of three from the Mariners over the weekend and only have Monday’s game left against the M’s this season. Mike Trout’s stats weep. Jo Adell hit his first two home runs.

Around the league, some trades:

The Cubs get a slugger in José Martinez. The Padres trade for another catcher (but more a super utility player) in Austin Nola, giving up top prospect Taylor Trammell. Since their farm is actually healthy, making this trade is not the end of the world. They also got Mitch Moreland. And Trevor Rosenthal. The Braves acquired Tommy Milone early Sunday morning, and he went on to start for them that night. The Rockies added bullpen arm Mychal Givens.

A-Rod will not be the new owner of the New York Mets.

We’ll see what happens later today!

so I guess it wasn’t Hunter Greene or anyone like that. Turns out the Reds added him to the 60 man roster at the last minute because them’s the rules, baby. Could only trade guys on the 60 man.

And we still have Simmons? Do we really think he’ll turn down the QO next year? Geez. Eff Eppler if he takes it. Turn the page. Anxiously awaiting the Goodwin return.

Maybe they can get Simmons to agree to a short extension at something equivalent to his current ~$8 per year. Like 3/25.

Ho hum, we also coulda offered that in the offseason. Maybe we were literally only offered a bag of balls for him. And now he’s clogging a roster spot. Is waivers trading a thing this year? He would be a great candidate for that.

Absolute pipe dream but man hopefully Cincy sends back Nick Lodolo for Goody. Absolute no chance it happens but one can dream?

I was thinking Hunter Greene – but that too is a pipe dream.

Either or straight up would be amazing. Friedman was able to fleece Dick Williams for a pile of garbage hopefully Eppler can do the same haha

Eppler? I doubt it.

Tony Santillan isn’t as good as those two, but he’s closer to the majors. How about him?

We got LHP Packy Naughton. Have no idea who he is but his name is awesome. Also got a PTBNL or cash

Hmm, fangraphs had him at #20 in the Reds prospects.

Goodwin GONE, traded to Cincy

And Goodwin to the Reds right on cue. Either Upton getting ABs to “figure it out” AKA Tank or Marsh may be coming soon

To the Reds? A 15-19 team is making a move to try to snag one of the extra wild cards? This season is nuts.

Apparently they got Archie Bradley too. So, what prospects/players did we manage to acquire from Cincy?

He still has plenty of control beyond this season I think?

He does, but trade deadline deals are between buyers and sellers and sometimes buyers swapping vets to fill gaps. Two sellers just wait until the offseason.

I thought you were joking, but I see Rosenthal says it.

Better have gotten something worthwhile for Goodwin, like a pitcher, although I don’t have a lot of faith in this.

Not much else for him to do at this point. The team is a seller at the deadline without any tradeable veterans except a few one-month rentals, Bundy who is desperately needed, and Goodwin, who was apparently just traded as I typed this.

Don’t worry guys. Eppler will tell us that with internal improvement from guys like Heaney and Canning, and health from Ohtani and of course Sandoval getting experience that we have a top rotation. Plus with Shooey, Richards being healthy and Suarez, Barria, Trevor Reckling, Trevor Bell waiting …

Trevor Bell, ha, ha.

He was crappy. I went to a game against the A’s where he just got POUNDED. That dude then had the nerve to talk shit after he was gone.

Yes, he tweaked his ankle, played 1 more defensive inning, then got pulled.

T minus 30 minutes and the number of chairs available is shrinking. Could still see the MFY taking a shot a Simba but that’s about it.

One thing on Bundy is that the Angels could offer him a QO after next season. Or the QO system could be abolished by the new CBA, if there is one, that takes effect after next season. Adds an entire layer to the discussion.

I don’t think you hold a guy out of the lineup because he might be traded. They make last-minute scratches and even pull people mid-game (although the last isn’t relevant since the deadline will be passed).

Yay another year with barely any moves. Frustration is real. Can’t alway expect a blockbuster, which is kind of nice we haven’t blown what we do have, but some kind of move would be nice.

Just saw a bleacher report article about last second moves that could be made, for us it just says move bundy with no information on what we could get. The White Sox on the other hand it does, they list a pitcher and an outfielder, both prospects, and I immediately said no. First off, we don’t need more outfielders, we have tons as it is, if anything I’d want a catcher that can hit while giving serviceable framing and defense. I realize bundy won’t get that much but say we added in a prospect, I think that’s reasonable and could be done.

I watched a little of the Friars over the weekend, an interesting team and also a rooting interest with GRich. At least Clevinger is not on another AL rival (in our condition, we don’t really have any).

In 3 games against Seattle, Trout increased his walk rate by 2.6% (4.6% if you include IBB) and his AVG/OBP/SLG by .022/.036/.058, with only a single strike out. Trout loves the Mariners.

Approximately 3 1/2 hours left to trading and we still have Goodwin, Renny, and the bullpen but the big prize Simba is still around. The suspense is tense as we wait with bated breath and part unhappy that we have made no trades and part happy the gang’s all here.

Amazing moves they (Padres) are making for “rental” players and l am very sure they would have asked about Bundy and while reports persist that he (Bundy) is on the trading block we have not heard about any real offers that were declined. l think that Arte has sais no to trading bundy.

Wow Cleveland looks to have done very well. We would have gladly given up Bundy for Cal Quantrill straight up, right?

Per Rosenthal, Andrelton “no longer an option” for Blue Jays.

We kinda need to give Baretto everyday ABs to start evaluating if he’s really a big league fit since he has no options. Will be interesting to see if they just dump Simba to open the roster spot.

QO is still an interesting decision since he could be worth that, or decline that in sights of a multi-year offer. And they wouldn’t get much more than they did for Castro, since Simmons has a lot of money left on his deal.

No reported NYY interest is very odd since Torres is injured.
