Jo Adell brings down the swift hammer of Justus in 2-HR game

Mariners 3, Angels 16 (Save some for the next game, guys!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!)

It’s been hard to watch the Angels’ highly heralded outfield prospect in his tough cup of coffee so far, but this game might be looked back upon as a turning point. Jo Adell, in a monster performance, slugged two home runs and they weren’t cheapies, either.

The first career home run for Jo Adell! It came off Justus Sheffield, with Adell delivering justice to a flat slider at the knees for the go-ahead runs. It was a hard-hit tater, and there was no doubt about it.

The Angels would never look back, and continued to widen the margin the entire game. With 16 runs tonight, it’s safe to say this will drastically improve their run differential.

If that first home run wasn’t enough, Adell added another the opposite way. This time, it was a mistake fastball that got a lot of the strike zone but similarly tattooed.

Adell, unfortunately was jipped on his third at-bat. Pardon my French, but what the absolute fuck was the strike zone tonight? Adell has gotten royally jipped by umpires this year, with 7% of balls being called strikes against him.

Regardless, it was a breakout game in what hopefully will be a very, very good career.

In other news, Dylan Bundy did a nice job tonight, despite not having any feel his typically sterling slider. He evaded trouble and had it not been for Trout’s two-base fielding miscue in the first, wouldn’t have given up any earned runs. He lowered his ERA to a remarkable 2.47.

Mike Trout chipped in this home run, too.

When all said and done, the Angels scored 16 runs on 13 hits, with Trout, Anthony Rendon, and Andrelton Simmons reaching base four times. Adell, as mentioned earlier, mashed two homers. David Fletcher, Justin Upton, Albert Pujols, and Anthony Bemboom all reached base multiple times. Shohei Ohtani was the only Angel without a hit, and despite that he drove in two runs.

It was nothing short of a remarkable show of offensive might, and the Angels rocked, rolled, and rattled the Mariners’ souls in absolute destruction of all they hold dear and holy. Perhaps this is the start of better things to come in spite of many things coming off the rails.

And Andrelton Simmons, who is an Angel for now, continues to be incredible with the leather.

Celebrate the win! #LTBU

Can Adell ever have consistent, continued success at the highest level with that swing? It just seems like there are way too many moving parts.

Agreed re the moving parts. There are a lot of holes in that swing. I think someone will need to work with him to shorten it up. That said – the strength and skill of an athlete are obvious.

Trout has worked a lot on his swing to make it shorter to the ball. Adell is a work in progress in that way.

Adell is working on his as you can compare from 3 weeks ago until now as his feet, hands, stance and how he prepares his timing motion. Example is his bat literally looked like a back scratcher and wiggled like a worm on a hook. Yesterday the bat did not go down the back and wiggled just a bit. Tim Salmon after the game mentioned his hand work, in this case his lead left hand and why things like this were not noticed in the minors is just head scratching to me. His fielding is suspect but improving. This is the proverbale work in progress. He will improve alot. What he does have on his side is that according to Maddon he is learning very well on the job.

For one night the Angels offense looked like I thought it would before the season started. It might be a mirage but that was fun.

Wouldn’t it be funny if we did go on a big 12 game winning streak?
