Romano Blows Epic Game Postgame

With the way this game went, the postgame could have turned into a War and Peace type affair. Let’s see if we can condense it a bit.

First up, the Angels have a Yusei Kikuchi problem. He promptly served up a meatball to Aaron Judge to put the Angels in a 2-0 hole in the first. If serving up one two run bomb is good, Kikuchi figured serving up a second would be great and he did so to Jose Cabellero in the second.

Nobody scored in the third inning but then the game went bonkers. In the top of the 4th, the Angels had the rally of the year so far to tie the game.

10 men went to the plate. 4 scored and it was nearly 8. Trout ended the inning with a 405 foot flyout to the 408 foot part of center field. That was about the only blemish on the night for Trout who looked like Mike Trout on both sides of the ball.

Shaun Anderson replaced Kikuchi with 1 out and 1 on in the 4th inning. It did not go well. He kept the Yanks off the board in the 4th but served up a 3 run dinger to Trent Grisham in the 5th that pushed them back ahead by a score of 7-4.

Like a boxer who took a straight right to the mouth, the Angels fired back. Mike Trout absolutely destroyed this ball in the top of the 6th to tie the game at 7-7.

But wait, there’s more. Aaron Judge went deep again to put the Yanks on top 8-7 in the home half of the frame. This one came off Anderson and ended his night. Overall, Anderson gave up 4 runs in 2.1 innings.

Down 8-7 after 6 innings, the offense kept coming. Yoan Moncada got the Angels rally started with a single then moved to third on a Jo Adell double down the left field line. Brandon Lowe brought home Moncada on a sacrifice fly to knot the score at 8.

At this point it started to feel like whichever team could put up a zero or two would win the game. Mitch Farris did his part and kept the Yankees off the board in the bottom of the 7th.

Adam Frazier had a good night and led off the 8th with a single. Mike Trout brought him home with a mammoth blast to finally get the Angels in the lead 10-8.

The Angels bullpen was able to put up a second zero in the bottom of the 8th. This time Drew Pomeranz pitched up to expectations. Angels 10, Yankees 8, heading to the 9th inning.

The Yankees put up their zero in the top of the 9th, giving them a chance to overcome a 2 run deficit and avoid a 6th straight loss. Jordan Romano allowed them to do just that. After a leadoff hit he served up an absolute meatball to Trent Grisham who tied the game. 10-10.

Left in to finish the job, Romano served up a double to Jose Cabellero who then stole third base. A walk to Austin Wells did not matter but it made 4 straight Yankees to reach base and turned the lineup over.

Romano then bounced one a few feet in front of the plate to blow the game. Angels lose 11-10. I won’t count the F bombs in this one as long as they reference a pitcher in this game.

What a mess.

Perry please trade away anyone who can return value and isn’t controlled beyond 2028.

Yates, Pomeranz, and Romano…could have just scrapped that trio and used the cash on. Kenley Jansen who wanted to stay. His 0.75 WHIP is helping the Tigers just fine thus far.

No coffee for Romano for at least 1 month! Coffee is for closers, and he isn’t a closer. Relegate him to mop up in a blow out.

Headline

Trout hits 2 Home Runs and the Angels lose.

Angels in mid season form!

what’s sad is that the sports news I read ignored his 2nd HR. It mentioned how he tied it up and then said Judge one-upped Trout with his (Judge’s) 2nd HR and then went directly to the Skanks winning in the 9th. So maybe the local headline will feature Trout but nationally…unh-unh…if that’s you spell “Nope”

Is there a free agent closer available in the California Penal System League?

Frazier & Lowe came to play tonight.

Tonight’s game is basically Trout’s career in microcosm.

He’s puts up big numbers, but the team is simply not very good.

Both home runs came with runners occupied on the base paths. That was welcomed to see.

And clutch. The first bomb tied the game and the second homer was the go ahead blast.

Where is the stud pitcher Taylor Ward was traded for? I thought the Angels said prior to the season opener he was on the 15 day IL.

as reported….

Rodriguez, meanwhile, landed on the IL to open the year with shoulder inflammation and what Suzuki called “dead arm” during Spring Training. But Rodriguez said he’s been throwing up to 150 feet and believes he’ll throw his first bullpen within the next week.
He’ll also join the Angels on their road trip to Cincinnati and New York to continue his throwing program. But Rodriguez, who was acquired in the trade that sent Taylor Ward to the Orioles, is still likely weeks away from a return.
“The arm is definitely getting strong quick,” Rodriguez said. “When I feel like I’m ready to throw the ball as hard as I want to throw it, that’ll let me know. But with how I’ve been progressing the last week to two weeks, it’s really given me a lot of confidence.”

So out for the year, I guess

The trading of Ward was understandable in some respects, but what gets me is the player the Angels got has a terrible injury history regarding his pitching arm. Were there were no decent healthy starting pitchers available they could have gotten for Ward? I remember in spring training they were calling Rodriquez’s “dead arm” a “day to day” situation.

With Klassen sent down, the Angels are supposed to have a bullpen game in this series. Ugh.

Kirby and Joyce might not solve the BP question, but, they still can’t get here soon enough. What a gut punch.

Who knows how many games like this that Trout still has in him.

1st time this season the coaching stood out to me, and in a negative way. Pitching Anderson against Judge screams either a lack of feel for the game, or lack of ambition to win.

Wasted a Trout legacy game, that’s what pisses me off the most.

Don’t blame the clown car driver (Suzuki), Arte & Perry employs the clowns.

So glad that the team didn’t waste any money on a bona fide closer.

Have Romano sit in the pen and get rusty, then bring him in to save a high impact game.

Romano 2024: 6.59 ERA
Romano 2025: 8.23 ERA
Romano 2026: 5.40 ERA

before 2024 he was pretty good but that was 3 years ago.

And WHY IN THE HELL IS A GUY WITH THOSE NUMBERS OUR CLOSER?

Because he did the job well 6 years ago ? F_ Perry, F_ Arte and F_ Suzuki !

Romano made $8.5mil in 2025. After the year he had I’m guessing the Angels offer at $2mil was the best he saw.

…..and Arte told Perry he didn’t want to pay for a REAL closer.

Jeez, 13 runs given up by the Angels arson squad bullpen since the 8th inning yesterday. Add the runs they gave up in the two losses to the Braves last weekend, it’s a total meltdown. Trout must want to say, screw it, no amount of money is worth this. And the Yankees had a .202 team batting average coming into this game.

Yep. And they will probably sweep us now…

I was not happy at all when I saw them get swept by Tampa Bay. I knew they were DUE and they were too good to lose 6 straight …

Look at how Iglesias is doing with Atlanta. We had him in house.

We had Reynaldo Lopez in house and let him go….
