Angels Give Dad Socks Postgame

Happy Father’s Day to all you dads on the board. Our Angels went out and did the equivalent of handing dad a pair of discount socks for a Father’s Day gift today.

It started off looking good when Nolan Schanuel launched a home run to center field in the top of the 1st inning.

Yusei Kikuchi gave up 2 runs in the bottom of the frame and you could see he just didn’t have his A game today. The Angels tied it in the top of the 3rd but weren’t able to seize the lead.

Baltimore ultimately won the game to complete the sweep. Yes, Baltimore probably has more talent than their record suggests but they are a last place team and they just swept the pretty hot Angels.

Next up, four games in NY starting tomorrow.

I hoped Angels could take 1 of 3 from this Baltimore series, especially when we had 2 left handers starting (and Baltimore is 4-15 vs. left handed starters).
But, am not surprised by the sweep. Baltimore came into the series 20-6 in the last 26 games against the Angels.

For Monday,

The Yankees Clarke Schmidt is 1-1 vs the Angels in his career. In his last outing against the Angels (in May), he went 6 shut-out innings and got the win.

For his career, Soriano has pitched just 1/3rd of an inning vs the Yankees, giving up 1 earned run.

This is likely our best chance to take a game against the Yankees in this 4-game series.

Here’s hoping Moore plays. Don’t bring him up to the majors, then start sitting him. It’s not like Angels are going to make the playoffs.

Please, no more predictions from you Phil. You already jinxed the Baltimore series by saying they would win because of left-handed pitching — WRONG !

And don’t lie by saying the sweep didn’t surprise you.

It was only one game. Let’s not overreact to this. He was K’ing every AB and needed to relax. This was/is not the same as the Paris situation where Wash was sitting the hottest bat in the lineup… that was alot different.

On stuff, Jacob Morrison should probably be a 5th or 6th rounder, but his late season and MCWS performance probably gets him drafted in the third or fourth.

Yankees just got swept by Boston this weekend, I’m sure they’ll be in a welcoming mood the next four games.

This Omaha park is brutal – Arquette and Turley hit fly balls that would be home runs in most any other park that just died at the wall at Charles Schwab stadium.

Uncharacteristically shitty defense from the Beavs. That missed double play might be determinative.

I like Turley a lot for the Angels second or third pick.

I’ll be writing a Top Five Rounds draft post this week, and Turley is one of my Top 100 targets for the Angels.

Who needs A-ball when you have the SEC!

The SEC is basically a level of competition similar to High-A ball in the MiLB. Which is why it makes sense to drop good SEC prospects there, or put them at AA for challenge within a year of drafting.

David Mershon is on target at SLC – how would you compare him to this year’s SEC middle infield draft class?

Mershon? He was an unranked college performer last year – didn’t even make the Baseball America Top 500 in an arguably stronger draft class. He never had the size, power or projection to be a prospect.

Looks like an organizational player, with a potentially brief utility profile at the MLB level. He’s where he is in the Angels system because the Halos farm largely has no positional prospects of note at the upper levels, due to a heavy bias toward college pitching in recent drafts.

Man. I missed it. This must have been a fantastic weekend of baseball for CoachDad, Sad Donkey and RealBaseballMan.

Let me guess. Washington’s stupid.

Perry is a lap dog.

Player X sucks and it’s all Arte’s fault.

The fish rots from the head.

This team needs more guys like (insert favorite mid talent old time Angel who scowls a lot)

Maybe a little per caps talk? Maybe demanding we release a player in favor of God knows who?

Stupid Perry.

PLUS! Predictions of both individual player failure AND this team’s gonna get it’s ass kicked by everyone now.

So wouldn’t you know it, the Skanks just got swept by the Chowds this weekend. Just in time for the TrAditional hAlo lAmbs to be led to their slaughter.

Man I miss the old days when, no matter how much we sucked, we also seemed to own the Skanks.

Sosh’s team owned them for years (except the ALCS in 2009).

That’s a big reason why i have no problem with NYY.

How would you even know until 2029, Mr. Hind Toots?

I mean unless you want to just declare failure on July 13th.And, If thats the case, you might as well just go ahead and post you post-draft drivel now and avoid the rush.

You can’t get an IIWPM out this brown slushy opinion pipe. You think he is gonna break down who we should draft over say ten picks? Why any picks we make may fail? Who’d be better an why? I just went to lunch with a 5 year old. He doesn’t like chicken. He had more frame is his whining than Tootie ever does.

I told Arte you said that. He said “who?”.

Then some assistant looking guy piped up and said “I believe he is a gentleman who was banned from Mutt Lynches for violently trying to get patrons to sexually assault him in the bathroom. He fancies himself a digital sports maverick and agitator extraordinaire.”

And Arte said “Why the fk do you know that? “Remind me” how? By typing bad grammar out on a screen with his milky baby fingers? Fk that tube. Bring me my MerSayTZees!”

Thus far, we have spent 2 years rebuilding and have made almost zero progress. I recognize there are a few investments whose value is yet unknown, but by and large we’re not any better yet. I don’t know if there’s hope, but there certainly is opportunity with the draft and potential trade chips. Let’s see what we can get done over the next 3 1/2 months. So far, there are improved versions of Schanuel, Neto, and even possibly Adell. So, we only need 6-7 potential starting players. O’Hoppe has been a big disappoint so far. We need to start wheeling and dealing.

The current Adell situation is very interesting. At one point today, he had the highest BA of anyone on the team other than Neto and Schanuel, which says something about Joe because he has improved, but it says a lot more about how bad the rest of them is. Our BAs and OBAs as a team are absolutely pathetic. Worse than the 1970s. Perry needs to get busy.

I hope the bottom was 2024, we are better this year, and Aiva in Anaheim is arriving soon. Still along ways to go but I see 2025 is a step up.

To salvage the Jansen trade value, Wash needs to avoid bringing him into a non-save situation. This year, he’s had a 4.57 ERA in non-save situations. With the recent stint with the RedSox, it was 6.75. I thought Perry was a big analytics guy…

Amen. Let’s just hover a little below .500. Get some good stats from trade bait, and get on with the rebuild.

2GA2Join

Let’s hope so.
Of course it is nice to see wins, but I really hope we don’t continue to keep “trying to be in it” by not being aggressive with trades, when we are around .500 at the deadline, causing us to miss yet another opportunity to build up our future.
Languishing in the lower-middle for a decade hasn’t worked. Doing the same thing over and over and expecting different results is nuts. We need to really rebuild.

At this point, honestly the only player I would absolutely not consider trading would be Neto, and probably a few of our top prospects who are a year or three away from the majors. I would entertain a trade of any other player depending upon the offer.

Am I the only one with an irrational hatred of Kevin Newman. He doesn’t hit for average. He doesn’t draw walks, he certainly isn’t a power hitter, he isn’t fast, he isn’t even an average defender. Yet this is the guy the Angels pay more than the league minimum to? Think I just hate him because it shows how completely inept our FO is.

last I saw while following the game it was 3-2. The last I saw at all when I checked in later was 5-2. Now I see the full horror of the afternoon. As others have said, it’s for the best. If we were hanging around near that last wild card spot we wouldn’t be dealing the players whose contracts are up at the end of the season.
