I think he just wants to solidify his MVP (I think, no one really knows since he hasn’t said why he’s still playing), so people can’t say he missed this amount of time. He only missed about 2 games not counting a couple of times he left the game early due to injury.
AL MVP is already his even he did not play single game after UCL injury, but he is obviously going for MLB homerun crown and 400 TB. He is not looking for walks or singles.

I feel so as well about the MVP and I think Shohei just loves playing baseball, so if he can play he will.
