Just want to remind everybody. Though I am overjoyed at the Brewers finally winning the big one, I am even more overjoyed that they swept the Doyers. Because YES. I still mucho hate the Doyers.

We’ve got the #1 and #3 top trade targets in baseball, and were the worst performing team in franchise history.

Get those trades done.
No excuses.

There’s valid excuses

Extensions

Offers aren’t good

I believe that there will definitely be good offers available, if the GM works the market correctly.

I believe extensions are completely the wrong move.

Pat Casey might have helped Milwaukee. Their organization is solid so adding Casey is only one thing they did right. But I like to think that his expertise contributed to the title

I totally agree. Wouldn’t mind seeing him in the Angels dugout.

So on MLBTRs list of potential trade targets for teams, Reid Detmers is #1 and Zach Neto is #3.

I’m just sayin.

Look at it this way. If we had gotten a huge prospect pile for Ohtani… and smaller returns of prospects for for Taylor Ward, Luis Rengifo and Mr Anderson at various points, we would currently have a stocked system after last years trades.

Now we need to trade those two guys to get more prospects cause we just plain don’t have enough.

The desperate need to make Shohei’s mom smile bites us again.

Man, if we had traded him with a year and 1/3 of control…. we would have had a HAUL. But nope. Who would we have watched? It was worth far more just to watch heeem than have a farm system. You don’t trade Bade Root. Other fans will make fun of us. We so stupid we’d have screwed up those prospects anyway.

Sure, I thought those people were dumbfks then, but now I realize that one more year of Shohei was worth so much more than having a mix of Andy Pages, Emmet Sheehan, River Ryan, Dalton Rushing, Michael Bush and Miguel Vargas…. who wants that crap? We got to watch him ALL of 2023. I’m the idiot.

Happy for the Brewers fans. It’s so exciting for a fan to watch your life-long team win its first trophy. We all remember 2002 and the “finally” moment. The Angels won the World Series? Yeah, it happened. What a memory for all fans who were there to see it happen.
I have been lucky to see my other teams win their first trophy: Broncos in 1997 and the Kings in 2012.
So enjoy it Milwaukee – it might not come around again for some time.

I agree with this. My co-worker is a 47 year old lifelong Brewers fan from Wisconsin. This meant a lot to him and I appreciate it. I was 27 when the Angels won in 2002. I genuinely enjoyed these games more than any World Series I’ve watched in awhile. I’m happy for the Brewers as it is a team I genuinely like,

I became a conscious fan in about 1982 (I was 7). By then I knew some of the players (Fred Lynn was an early favorite). I truly believe that all of the time being a fam prior to 2002 with the heartaches of 1986 and 1995 made 2002 so much sweeter. You can’t have the same joy if your team wins all of the time, you have to suffer in order to truly enjoy the triumphs.

So now that the World Series is over the next big thing for the Angels would be to name the GM so he can build his team. I would assume it would be before the lockout so that he can sign some people if need be before they sign elsewhere.

And I’m guessing that any new signings or arbitration type dealings can’t use KSE money. Wouldn’t it be fun if Arte was actually made to pay to make the team better on his way out.

I know that we’ll likely ignore it here on CtPG cause of who’s on here but…. yes. Pat Murphy is basically the casting dept perfect looking guy for “OLD MANZ ARE BACK! BUNTS! STEALS! FEELZ! I still MATTER!” but we seem to ignore how nerdy both Murphy and the Brewers are.

Their entire style of play and roster was not constructed via the feelz of some old dudes watching guys play on VHS tapes or in person. The Brewers are HIGHLY analytic. It’s how they figured out how to make scrap heap pitchers work well, how to make Andrew Vaughn and David Hamilton useful, etc. even Murphy has a track record as a stats guy. He looks like a coal miner but he uses the data a lot along with his coaches. In my opinion they are almost perfect because they function like Mick from Rocky with Drago’s lab.

It’s also important to remember that they still blow it. Just ask Ryse Hoskins.

I think all the best guys embrace analytics. The Brewers found their own analytics and kicked people’s ass with it. Speed, contact and baseball players. They put so much pressure on teams from start to finish. Find value in guys others don’t value as much. It’s why I’d love a guy like Clint Hurdle for a few years in the dugout. A big believer in analytics – but with old school leadership qualities that could create a culture with guys who will believe in him. Of course, their bullpen was second to none. Team baseball – from the head of the org on down.

I really enjoyed watching this series. As I get older, I’m more and more excited to watch teams play great baseball, regardless of where they’re from. The Brewers play a fearless brand of baseball that does remind me a lot of the 2002 Angel squad where they forced their opponents to react. Analytics is similar to AI at this point where everybody has the information and access. The art and science is figuring out how to incorporate it into your system to create your own unfair advantage.

Rob Manfraud and the owners play a whole different game in 2926-27 than has been played prior. They’ve changed the game with new rules, some good along with some bad. They are spending billion to profit hundreds of millions without considering the cost to the fans. Why but games on streaming services if not for the extra money involved, so how did that help the fans who miss out on games. Going back to the future of 154 games in a season, what benefits do fans of 28 have if the change is made? How does expansion help the fans when there are not enough MLB ready players available to pitch or hit 100+ pitches. Expansion is about getting 4B dollars ea. for two teams. So, this is about big money, not about winning or improving the game.

The best thing for the fans was watching two low spending teams in small markets getting themselves into the World Series as the viewing numbers proved you do not need a cap to help the owners from bidding against themselves.

Now I can’t wait for Spring Training to start back up again and watch how the game will change copying the making contact and level swings to get on base.

gitchogritchoffmypettis
Legend

I actually like the 154 game schedule. I’d have to say that losing 8 games of meh baseball and getting more playoff baseball is something I’ll enjoy. It also adds a little urgency. Just a little. But you can’t shrug your shoulders and say “Snell and Glasnow are for later in the season” as easily now cause “later” is sooner. The Padres can’t suck for six weeks anymore. Etc. The last two weeks of the season are a total waste of time for 75% of the teams. I think we’ll like this change.

I like everything except what it does to the record chasing which is a big lure. I had seats for the last three Yankees games when Judge hit his 62. (Was 15 feet away from it). Will the records now be – “Most home runs in the first 154 games?” I love when the playoffs hit – and the season is grueling. Love the idea – but it’s a big part of history he’s rewriting.

The same point can be made in reverse when Major League Baseball expanded to a 162-game schedule in 1961 for the American League and 1962 for the National League. Prior to that, from 1904 through 1960, the regular season consisted of 154 games.

What’s old is new again.

MarineLayer

And the entire playoffs was the World Series and it couldn’t be longer than 7 games. So the regular season actually meant something and the two best teams actually played in the World Series.

In “modern stat baseball beep beep land” future it will be something like who hit the most home runs in the fewest Abs that had the most impact on games. They will call it the Jeter Title for no damn reason. We will see who actually had The Most Powerful (Jeterful) Season ever.

The best thing for the fans was watching two low spending teams in small markets getting themselves into the World Series as the viewing numbers proved you do not need a cap to help the owners from bidding against themselves.

I view this differently. I think baseball fans sent a message that they are tired of seeing the Dodgers in the WS every year and that parity is desirable. A salary cap would drive more parity.

Yes – any team can win any year, regardless of payroll. But the teams that are consistently high in payroll will have a significantly higher number of playoff appearances. That’s a verifiable fact.

The pure stats guys will tell you that it doesn’t pay to hit a ground ball to the right side with 0 outs and a runner on second. Basically that outs are bad. But what they don’t calculate are that hitting the ball to the right side also gets hits, errors, etc. Of course you want a hit. But there are good outs and bad outs. One thing that made Tom Brady the GOAT was not all the plays he made – but also how he missed. He missed smart. Getting a runner to third with one out is a great miss and still getting a job done. Nothing good happens on a swing and miss.

Well, accept for OAR, RE24, WPA and Productive Out Tracking. Other than that stuff those geeks have no clue and we need old man feelz.

I totally get that it is actually looked at – but the amateur stats guys will often speak in generalities (example: don’t bunt, RBI’s don’t matter.) , but there are way deeper statistical models being used (which we saw on display) than the high level surface area responses many believe in. I have no doubt the Brewers executed a brilliant statistical driven plan of letting dirtbags play the game.

Waiting for Home Runs is boring.

A small part of me dreams of the day that some team figures out how far back they need to move their fences to make the average HR in their home park an out and moves their fences. Maybe further.

Then goes out and gets four speed demons to play OF. Guys who were never gonna hit enough HR to make 40M a year. Guys who hit doubles and get bunt base hits.

Sure, your teams leader in home runs will have 22 (Jack Clark) but you will have 5 guys with 30+ SB. Oh, and now you can get semi-cheap fly ball pitchers and win games.

The Rockies should just move CF back to 430 ft. 340 down the lines. 1920s sized outfield. Pitching issues solved.

That was so encouraging and rewarding to see baseball played that way again. 3 out of the 4 teams in the end were made up of dirtbags – which made this my favorite one since the Angels won. The Brewers don’t give an inch. Pat Murphy is a national treasure.

gitchogritchoffmypettis

It was REALLY great that most of the games were actually exciting. It displayed the best of the best style of play all playoffs. It highlights what a lot of people have been saying/wishing for years now. Power hitters are basically an inefficient way to spend money now. Too premium. And some teams are starting to mine the other skills commodities.

Do you think that a 7-game Brew Crew winning series would have been better for MLB too?…John Smoltz is wrong a lot and is annoying…Manfraud wishes that a Yankees-Dodgers series took place me thinks. He didn’t seem happy presenting the trophy… Rays did not seem to play at a high level in the 5 games, even at home…Impressive watching the way the Brewers played baseball with just making contact and getting on base…Next up maybe is the awards and GM meetings with not much happening because of negotiations. Happy Halloween 🎃

7 game series are awesome. But watching the Brewers was a thing of beauty. It gave old school guys a renewed seat at the table. It showed that manufacturing runs still works. That fighting to not strike out instead of always getting an A-swing produces runs. That 5th inning in Game 3 was pure joy to watch.
