Angels Outslug Red Sux 6-4

There were talks about trading Neto to Bawston this trade deadline. Nothing happened. Most likely due to the Sux not wanting to trade their top prospect. I mean it is fair. Arias is the 3rd best prospect in MLB. However, as this series has shown, Neto was made for the whacky dimensions of Fenway. He could have gotten the Sux the division. Maybe that will be addressed this offseason, but who knows, it is new ownership.

And new ownership will have to decide what to do with this rotation. It has been best in MLB this last month and that is against mostly playoff teams. Or at least winning teams. And not just Detmers who has been on a historic run, or Urena, who should get ROY votes, but guys who make bad Star Wars movies like Ryan Johnson. Today he went 6 innings giving up 3 runs on 5 hits striking out 5 and walking 1. Another quality start. How?! It isn’t like he is throwing it by guys either.

Whatever that was, keep doing it!

What’s even more crazy was all the hoke runs. I didn’t realize both teams were water Pokémon as the rain caused home run after home run today. No. I will not hear this “coincidence” thinking. We are baseball fans. Superstition is required. And nothing is more ominous as water. Falling from the sky! It’s unnatural.

Rain is scary

Highlighted Recap

Angels struck first with a 3 run bomb in the 3rd by Neto!

3-0 Angels

Actually, that’s not enough. Siri, hit a 2 run blast as well.

5-0 Angels

In the 4th, Guzman joined in with a solo shot of his own.

6-0 Angels

Alas, no lead is safe in the stupid Fenway dimmensions and Ryan Johnson gave up a 2 run home run in the 5th.

6-2 Angels

And another home run allowed in the 6th makes it close again.

6-3 Angels

The bullpen did their job though, not blowing it. Somehow. And Ben Joyce had the chance to tie the Angels team save lead at 4. It wasn’t pretty. Giving up a run.

Not a hr

But that was it. Angels win!

Upcoming

No game tomorrow. Off to DC for 3 this weekend.

Shit…just came across, RIP Barry Melrose. Not a baseball guy but those of us that love hockey know about Barry.

Bummer

I don’t follow NHL, but, Barry Melrose was with the Kings when I sort of watched the sport for a couple of years.

Growing up in Texas, I never saw ice nor hockey. But when I was in the Army, I went to a minor league game with a hockey nut from Boston. He explained everything BEFORE it happened. By the end of the game, I understood what was going on. He told me “After one game, you can understand the game. After two games you can understand the strategy, and hockey is so simple, after 3 games you can coach.”

I don’t know how to ice skate. So I admire them for that. But I can’t imagine ice skating and taking a stick and pushing a chunk of rubber down the ice. And I will never understand how they do that with the opponent beating you half to death the entire time with his stick. Marvelous athletes.

Neto might F’ Around and finish at .250 30 homers and 85 RBI with 25 steals.

He’s on one.

Woot woot! Didn’t hurt the Tank fan standings either as the A’s also won. Rockies are losing but hey.

Trout was awesome. Big double. Woo hoo.

Neto mashing in Boston.

Go team and stuff.

when Anthony hit that ball….. but hey! We won! As noted, Joyce now tied for the team lead with 4 saves. We’d have to do fairly badly now to lose 100.16 games left. To lose 100 we’d have to go 6-10 or worse. We’re capable of doing that but with Detmers and Wally I think we’re going to win 63 or 64. Yay, us!

Will Trout finish at .250 or higher?

we could figure that out. Let’s say he gets 4 official at-bats in the remaining games. That’s 64 at-bats. He’d have to go 19 for 64 (.297 in that span) to hit .250 for the year.

That seems unlikely, doesn’t it?

I’ve got a bad feeling we’re going to get a cascade of “Trout’s power faded down the stretch because he was fatigued from (nearly) playing a full season for the first time since……” propaganda from the organization this offseason.

And a BSOL statement in mid February? Sounds like a plan. Arte still owns this thing for a while.

I guess I’m not cool enough to know what BSOL means.

I don’t think he’ll make .250 and I hope he stays over .240

Johnson and Joyce got wobbled, but didn’t go down for the count. Encouraging signs.

Neto is on one at the moment. It will be interesting to see his final numbers if he stays hot.

Trout is putting along with a never-ending pattern of 1-4, 0-4, 2-4, 1-4, 0-4 performances. If you told me he would get 600 Plate Appearances I would have hammered the over on 30 homers.

especially the way he started. I thought 40 in early May.

I think the opponents are getting more confident in challenging him now. This might also explain the noticeable decline in him getting walked.

Trout rhymes with Out. Your enthusiasm and support of our hero Mike has been admirable. I stopped end of July. He’s just a dude now.

Diggjng RJ, kept his walks down and pitched well enough.

Guilty as charged. It’s a bummer to witness, really.

He’s a .240 hitter with rapidly diminishing power.

Trout’s last HR was Aug. 10th in game 119. We just played game 146. 27 games since the last one. He has hit two since July 8th, right before the all-star break.

FaninHell puts all other “present moment Trout apologists” to shame.

I’m fine sticking with Trout … it’s painful … but let him decide when to hang it up or have some baseball dudes in our front orifice make the decision.

I’ll keep clapping for now (but I reserve the right to occasionally make fun of him, too 😂)

Go team. We can still win a bunch of games and still take the Tank title at the same time. Let’s do it!!!!
