LA Angels Tuesday News Crash: Goins, Goins, Gone

The draft is this Saturday.

The Braves designated Carlos Carrasco for assignment. They have also DFAd catcher Jair Camargo. The Tigers traded right-hander Matt Seelinger to the Mets for cash considerations. They also traded Woo-Suk Go to the Twins for cash.

The Pirates released right-hander Yunior Marte over the weekend and he has signed with the Rakuten Golden Eagles. The Pirates released infielder Davis Wendzel. The Blue Jays released both Josh Fleming and Justin Topa.

Former Angels coach Ryan Goins and Manager Craig Stammen were ejected in the first at bat of the Padres game against the Dodgers on Sunday, basically for arguing balls and strikes.

C.B. Bucknor is retiring at the end of the 2026 season. ABS apparently cannot handle fog.

Former big league pitcher Al Holland passed away at the age of 73.

Meckler should be our leadoff hitter. Right?

While we’re on the subject of getting better, what should we do about Neto? Dropping him down the lineup is obvious. Moving him off SS to a less demanding position would also help. I’d prefer Peraza or Guzman there.

Neto’s brain has been the problem this year, for me anyway. Not sure a less demanding position would help, but maybe throwing Cracker Jacks in the stadium would help.

I predict that whoever Moz picks at #12 will instantly be ranked above who Minasian picked at #2 with a year of time in our minor league system.

I think the new pick slides in at 2 or 3 on the prospect lists. Rada and Bremner should stay at the top.

If you want to make yourself upset check out the stats of Bremner, Anderson, and Hernandez.

Passing on Seth Hernandez will forever be unforgivable considering he pitched in our own backyard and everything about him screamed immediate star. We had one of the best prospects of a generation fall into our lap and Perry said “Nah, we good”

It was so obvious. Minasian was such a fool.

While I was fixated on Hernandez last year, I was not watching too much of Kade Anderson. What a start to both their careers. in a hitters league, players are batting .160 of Kade with a strikeout to walk ratio of 10-1, WHIP is 0.69. He’s doing this in AA ball which is a stepping stone to the big leagues for talented players. Turks pick last year to go No. 2 last year.

Seth is performing well, High A a little more challenging but still doing very well and racking up K’s. 2-years less experience than Kade.

Both should have very bright futures.

Agreed. Minasian pick seems very murky to me. I predict he will have a Bachman-like career, with a little Joyce mixed in (remember him?).

Kade has been unbelievable in AA producing true video game numbers. In terms of pure stuff, I liken Seth to Skenes, Strasbourg, Clemens, guys like that. I love Bremner (mainly bc UCSB lol), but passing on both was crazyyyy

Kade Anderson was an absolute stud last season. I also like the Arnold kid out of FSU.

So it appears that when Mozeliak mentions resources, he’s talking about Arte’s money and the market they play in. Meanwhile, Arte has been pleading poverty. Not sure where they go from here.

Let’s hope not. Nobody he could trade is make or break.

I would love someone to overpay for Detmers who will never be able to ace but could give us a few top pieces.

Actions speak louder than words. I’ll judge Mozeliak on the moves Arte allows him to make, his words mean absolute nothing

That’s kind of where we’re at.

Key word is Arte. I won’t judge anyone but Arte when he has the last say.

I think we’ll know early in 2027 if anything has changed.

Mozeliak has the leverage here with the 6 month contract. He is clearly feeling Arte out.

Mo will present a plan and budget for the baseball operations department. If Arte agrees and actually funds it I’m sure Mo stays on as a POBO or consultant and hires the people he wants.

If Arte does anything less than Mozeliak wants, Mo walks. The dude is already rich, already retired, and already won plenty. The Angels need him a lot more than he needs the Angels.

Wade Meckler got more All-Star votes than Jo Adell and Taylor Ward.

My one man crusade !!!!! Meckler should have been The Angels representative to the All Star game.

Meckler does everything except hit for power. He should be the current lead off hitter and you could do worse than have Rada and Meckler hitting 1-2 followed by Trout. Get a real clean up hitter and let Neto hit 6th. If they were to get a RF and 1B next season who could hit 4th and 5th, they could have a deep lineup with Neto 6th and Guzman 7th, followed by the catcher and Peraza. With their starting pitching and a rebuilt pen, they would be very competitive. That’s my hopium take.

the only issue there is Rada and Meckler are both lefties. But yes it would help with contact rate and OBP.

Braves will re-sign Carrasco by the days end. Bad luck for Lucchesi, his Angels ride may be over. Perry’s not here to re-sign him.

Angels W/L in 2025 with Trout: 55-75
Without Trout: 17-15
In 2026 with Trout: 30-45
Without Trout: 6-10, including current losing streak.
Combined: ’25 and ’26:
With Trout: 85- 120
Without Trout: 23-25.
At time Trout went on IL on 6/18 this season, he was mired in a 5 for 41 slump.
I don’t disagree Trout may be the Angels best player but the team is terrible with him or without him, arguably “better” when he is not in line up, but terrible either way.
I’ve always been a Trout fan, he is a hall of famer. But the team is what it is. Trout’s presence in the line up does not make a positive difference in the w/l column. One can argue that his obp is excellent, that is true. And that he he still hits homers and scores runs, also true. But, at this stage, he has become very prone to extended batting slumps and sporadic power outputs. Fact, of his home run total this season, 7 of his 18 homers were consolidated in 7 games. Thus, 11 homers spread over the other 69 games he played. His k rate is ghastly. With Neto and Trout at top of line up this season, they have combined for over 200k’s. Ugh. Its not like they are bringing stolen base prowess to the top of the line up. Those days are long gone for Trout. His defense is a liability, as Mark Langston was saying on the radio broadcast during last Sunday’s game: the Angel outfielders (referring to Trout and Adell (as they have been the full timers) play much too deep, all season, and “it’s killed the Angels pitchers who have had way too many bloop hits fall in in front of them (outfielders)”
The Angels have no choice but to play Trout, if anything, his contract demands such.

Correction: Trout has 17 homers this season, not 18 as I stated.

He’s at 2.8 WAR now and can easily hit 5 before the season is over. That wouldn’t be a bad year.

The irony, based on Trouts performance, that they should be better with him but aren’t. Hard to figure why. Possibly just an anomaly because he is still their best player by a long shot.

I know Bill James rejects this, but he’s never been a clutch player so his stats largely amass where they’re not needed. And his K rate really kills his value, as his outs are also non-productive. It’s balanced by how great he was at the beginning of his career, and what an exceptionally nice guy he is, which no longer helps us on the field.
