The Nationals claimed right-hander Justin Lawrence off waivers from the Minnesota Twins. The Twins designated Austin Voth for assignment. The Mets designated infielder Zack Short for assignment. The Diamondbacks designated Carlos Santana for assignment. Oye Como Va. The Braves designated Carlos Carrasco for assignment.

I see Dillon Tate signed a minors deal. He is the best looking relief pitcher ever. Good command. Never throws a straight pitch. Yet his WHIP is 2 because he will get hit like a step child. We can still hope though.

More ideas from owners to try and turn MLB into other sports. For the owners benefit, of course, they want to look like the good guys prior to any potential lockdown next year.

The owners are to blame for offering more than 5-years, no? Perhaps it could be seen as collusion but just don’t offer it. Besides, longer than 5-years is often a losing proposition.

I think a 15 year MiLB career would be perfect. Let him watch scores of others promoted to MLB before him. He needs the ego beatdown.

He’s prick and even his “apologies” are generally cringeworthy. He is blaming the fact he is being painted as a villain on the “media age.”

Hard disagree. The behavior on the field was terrible, but his interview after the game was poignant. He was humbled. He felt bad – visibly. He’s young and stupid as are many athletes. If Freddie and Roberts chatting with him can change his attitude a bit – I’m here for it.

Many players talk about how they use that chip on their shoulder as armor – he just needs to realize that it doesn’t need to be visible to the rest of us. Ever.

Dude can hit – I hope he learns from this and gets better because of it.

It doesn’t matter how close we are, every team is in front of us and the likelihood of us finishing ahead of all of them is zero. Somehow we are 1 1/2 games ahead of Boston and Colorado. We are in 30th place out of 32.

Exactly right. If we played .600 ball the rest of the way we’d come up short. And if we were to buy … I have zero faith that Perry would add decent players. Yet Pineapple is probably right, too, that PM would make deals if we got hot.

By the way, Pineapple, don’t we have all July before the deadline?

You are totally right! I counted to the ASB, the correct number of games remaining before the deadline is 30.

A nice 10 game losing streak should be enough to dissuade Arte from throwing a grenade at the improving farm system.

I still think this team has some sort of hot steak in them, hopefully it comes after the deadline.

As much as we want Perry to sell, it just isn’t going to happen. Any buying will just continue to push this franchise back to the Stone Age. Fred Flintstone will bat cleanup.
