LA Angels Thursday News Crash: Crotch Chop

Abner Uribe got the impression that the Cardinals would intentionally hit one of his Brewers teammates. He responded with a triple crotch chop directed at the Cardinals dugout. If nobody was going to get hit before, they are bound to get hit now. He apologized to his teammates but not to the Cardinals. Look at Alec Burleson’s face in the video. For his part, Cardinals manager Oliver Marmol says the Brewers were being pretty demonstrative about relaying signs from the dugout.

The Angels signed reliever Alex Faedo to a minor league deal. He is at the Arizona Complex for now while he builds up into game shape. The Angels called up Nick Madrigal to the big club and placed Nolan Schanuel on the ten day IL with ankle inflammation.

The MLBPA got the ball rolling yesterday with their initial proposal toward the next Collective Bargaining Agreement.

The Royals designated left-hander Bailey Falter for assignment. Reliever Matt Bowman just got a minor league deal with the Blue Jays. The Blue Jays also acquired right-hander Connor Seabold from the Tigers in exchange for Juanmi Vasquez. The Rangers hired Nicky Lopez and designated Andrew McCutchen for assignment.

Travis Kelce purchased a minority interest in the Cleveland Guardians.

This is just an everyday ordinary bat dog injury. It might end up costing Kendall George a season.

Former All Star and Rookie of the Year Bob Horner passed away at the age of 68.

Yes, Suzuki has made a number of questionable decisions and appears to be in over his head. But folks here are not getting it. Angels do not intend to compete this year despite any bullshit rhetoric. Suzuki was moved from the existing payroll to just fill in as manager vs hiring a seasoned manager from outside the organization. We can beat up on Kurt but this team needs to tank for a very, very good 2027 draft. AM/PM are fully aware and on board and I say, thank god.

I don’t think this tank is planned. Arte, perry, and co just really suck at building a competitive baseball team.

It’s the “planned unplanned” tank.

was it really a choice, or them being forced into it after a decade+ of poor management, drafting and coaching?

I agree, not really a choice but forced by what you outlined after years of futility. Tanking is the only way out of the box to regain some credibility. Astros did this under Jim Crane, just sunk to the bottom of the bowel bowl and came away with great draft picks selecting high.

Need to get a top 3-5 pick for 2027. 24 and ’25 drafts could still turn out well.

Tanking in Major League Baseball does not work ! It is pointless and stupid.

The only sport in which tanking actually works (or potentially can work) is basketball (NBA).

Sure, you can Cherry Pick a team for whom it worked. But the point in general remains true… the reason is that the success rates of Top 3 picks in MLB is quite variable…. It is not like the NBA where having a top two pick really almost guarantees you will get a great or potentially franchise changing player. In baseball the draft is really a crapshoot…

Except for the time when the Lakers had the 2nd pick 3 years in a row and did not get even once a franchise changing player. It was an odd exception though. Generally speaking, the top 3 NBA picks are far more likely to be exceptional than the top 3 MLB picks. Although that was more true when they were picking HS players as opposed to college players.

100%, trust the process. Funny, 2026 draft is turning out to be a stinker and was a good year to be lottery ineligible.

Agree. I use the word “tank” from the perspective of a team not trying to win…or even compete. I do not believe the Angels are interested in winning.

I would argue it works even better in the NFL than in the NBA. Drafting in either is much more projectable than MLB, to your point.

Both the NBA and NFL provide much more consistenty good or great players at the top of the draft. Though I think the percentage in the NBA is a bit higher..

Yeah that is probably true the more I think about it. The NFL has so many positions that the elite players tend to last a little deeper into the first round.

Seriously, Giants and Raiders fans were bitching every win, lol. Drafting for a QB is a real deal.

This. Every time I see that word on this site I want to gnaw a pinkie off. Scouting and development (and, arguably, over-under-slot draft strategy) almost completely negate draft position. Whoever drafts 30 is almost as likely to have an impact draft as No. 1.

Some drafts have zero generational talents, such as 2026. I could care less where the Angels draft this year. And it does not need to be No.1, No. 1-3 are pretty sweet spots just in case there is a Paul Skenes coming out.

Am I crazy or are there only four teams above .500 in the AL?
Is it the year of the tank..?
Meanwhile, only four below .500 in the NL.

WHAT THE HELL IS PERRY DOING WITH CHRISTIAN MOORE ?

The man is ripe and ready to contribute ! But laugh a minute Perry brings in Nick Madrigal.

WHY ?? F_ Perry and this organization. They ignore obvious moves to improve the team and instead sabotage the roster…. It is as if they are trying to lose.

Sorry, CM but you now get to rot in the minors. Got to be so frustrating for the kid. Not sure what else he can do at this point …

I wouldn’t be surprised if they don’t give Madrigal reps – hope he catches fire like he can, then moves him.

The point I was making is that it is a perfect opportunity to bring up Moore. It is time. Perry is a fucking joke.

100% – I got it. To me – all the moves they’ve made looks they plan to sell. To that I say, “Finally.” I’m guessing Moore comes up after the trades happen. If that’s not the strategy – they are more stupid than I have thought. And that’s absolutely possible. Hard, but possible.

Holding him off until after the lockout…? It’s not like having him come up for this year is going to change things much.

He is the future….. people here are always saying “play the kids” etc.

Well, Christian Moore IS one of the kids. Why in the hell is Perry not getting him up here…?

Moore needs to cook. Was overwhelmed by MLB pitching last year. Perry has this one right.

Have you seen his AAA stats recently? If he is not ready now he’ll never be ready.

He’s doing it in the pinball stadiums with high elevation and dry heat. Pitchers breaking stuff flattens out. I cannot get excited about AAA but digging deeper, need to see season long improvements in his pitch recognition and contact rates. I’d argue to have him just focus until late season call-ups. Are we trying to get to 10 games under in 2026 or build for the future?

Cook? He has been simmering and cooking for quite a while. He is ripe. Further time in the minors will only contribute to his frustration, and possibly dejection…

If you don’t eat the fruit when it is Ripe then it will rot and be too late ….

if he ends up being a bad player in his MLB career due to being in the minors longer than he wants to be, then he was never going to be good anyways.

Would disagree with that…. I think you will find that the longer guys stay in the minors (past like 2 yrs) the less frequently they ever become regular MLB players…

Which can very easily be attributed to they never really had the talent anyway. Plenty of guys do really well in the minors but then get to the show and, for lack of a better word, suck. I’ll take Brandon Wood for $1000, Ken.

So in your head, CM could go from a regular MLB player to a bust if he gets called up in August vs. right now? (your all caps freak out above makes it clear you demand immediacy)

We have our own domestic Cuban Crisis with Soler and Moncada.

No heart, no hustle, no talent. A serious team would DFA these 2, but instead we get Suzuki making excuses for their continuous lack of hustle.

Soler is showing himself to be eerily similar to his countryman Moncada…. that play in which he literally walked towards 2B was very telling. Is there something in the water down there in Cuba that has infected both Moncada and Soler ?

Soriano value dropping off – Made on the rise. 19 and doing well in AA. True 5 tools. Scout comp is Lindor – with Ichoro tools. Doesn’t chase. I’d sweeten the deal to even value (15 more BTV) to get this kid. I think he’s a superstar in the making.

I like the way the Brewers play the game. Love how Pat Murphy addressed it too. He is absolutely awesome. Maybe even better than Suzuki. Maybe.

Arnold is definitely one of the best. And Murph, he has that “it” factor. He’s the kind of coach players want to play for and GM’s want running the team. I firmly believe Vitello got his job because it worked so well with Murphy.
