Angels Walk It Off 2-1

In this series the Angels get to try their luck against the Sacramento Athletics. We weren’t playing the Nats but we were definitely playing the gnats. The lineups were as follows.

The Pitching matchup was as follows.

So how did the Angels fare? Walbert Urena started off the game with a four pitch walk. He got out of the inning without giving up a run, so there’s that. Zach Neto struck out. Mike Trout popped out to second base. Nolan Schanuel flied out to right.

Inning 2

The As began with a line out to Schanuel that was almost over his head.

Henry Bolte grounded out to Neto. Jeff McNeil flied out to right. Jorge Soler struck out. Yoan Moncada grounded out to short. Jo Adell popped out to firts base.

Inning 3

Zack Gelof struck out swinging. Darell Hernaiz flied out to right. Carlos Cortes walked for the second time. Shea Langoliers reached on a rather lackadaisical play by Yoan Moncada. It was scored a hit. Nick Kurtz popped out to third. Josh Lowe struck out. Logan O’Hoppe also struck out. Adam Frazier grounded out to first.

Inning 4

Brent Rooker flied out sharply to right. Tyler Soderstrom flied out. Then the wheels kind of came off. A grounder straight through Moncada put Bolte on base. Jeff McNeil reached on a Zach Neto error. Then Urena hit Zack Gelof to load the bases. Fortunately, Darell Hernaiz hit into a force out. Zach Neto groundout to third. Mike Trout grounded out down the third base line. Nolan Schanuel struck out.

Inning 5

Carlos Cortes grounded out to first and Shea Langoliers grounded out to third. Nick Kurtz knocked one past Schanuel for a double. Brent Rooker lined out to right field.

Jorge Soler struck out but Moncada managed a one out walk. Jo Adell struck out swinging. Josh Lowe was batting when Yoan Moncada stole his first base in several seasons. Lowe then proceeded to ground out.

Gnats!

Inning 6

Tyler Soderstrom grounded out. Henry Bolte struck out swinging. Jeff McNeil singled on a liner to right field. Zack Gelof grounded out to second base. Logan O’Hoppe lined out to second base. Adam Frazier grounded out to short. Zach Neto was hit by a pitch that subsequently hit the home plate umpire and also Shea Langoliers. Mike Trout grounded out to third to end the inning.

Inning 7

Sam Bachman replaced Walbert Urena on the mound. Darell Hernaiz grounded out to short. Carlos Cortes singled through the center out to Mike Trout. Shea Langoliers popped out to Logan O’Hoppe. Nick Kurtz struck out swinging. Nolan Schanuel struck out. Jorge Soler struck out. Yoan Moncada struck out.

Inning 8

Brent Rooker grounded out to short for the first out. Tyler Soderstrom struck out swinging. Henry Bolte grounded out to first. Jo Adell lined out to center field. Josh Lowe flied out to center field. Logan O’Hoppe popped out to the shortstop.

Inning 9

Ryan Zeferjahn came in to pitch. Jeff McNeil flied out to right field. Zack Gelof lined a base hit to left center field. Lawrence Butler came in to pinch hit for Hernaiz. Zack Gelof stole second base. Butler singled in the first run of the game. 1-0 Athletics. Carlos Cortes walked. Shea Langeliers walked on four pitches. At this point Chase Silseth came in to pitch. He induced a double play to keep this a one run ball game.

Adam Frazier got a hit to break up the no-hitter. It was a liner to center.

The Angels brought in Jose Siri to pinch run. Zach Neto hit a walk off homer to win the game 2-1.

Kotsay shoulddna left Ginn in after he lost his no-no.

Zach sure felt like he got it; glad he did or it would’ve a loud single and one of the stupidest we’ve ever seen.

Watched it from the A’s broadcast and their play-by-play person, Jenny Cavnar, didn’t seem to understand that when Neto’s ball went into the trees the game was over. I have no problem with female announcers. But you have to be on top of the game.

Dallas Braden: “Tough…just a series of…unfortunate events…” No it wasn’t “unfortunate”: your guy lose his no-hitter, the manager left him in at 100 pitches, and then he gave up a walk-off bomb. Suck it up.

Oh yea: SELL THE TEAM, SHARTE!

To go from being no hit to winning in 2 batters is insane.

Suzuki said he didnt hear what the fans were chanting and then he said maybe he knows what they were saying

Anyway, Neto’s comments after the game show that the players are well aware of how bad it is and how they’re stung by the “sell the team” chant. They want to get the fans back on their side by winning

That’s the main way to do it. Can also kick Moncada off the team while we’re at it

I was watching the OKC/SA double overtime. We’re people really chanting sell the team.

Between Neto’s comments and the way he conducts business on the field, the more I’m on board with trading him and getting Denzer in the lineup.

Neto is immature and needs to focus more on his improvement and less on everything around him.

Angels retain the streak of the only team not be no hit this century (last time was 1999).

There’s that.

So yeah, Neto and not running. I guess he thought it was either a homer or a fly out but, you know, representing the winning run what if the CF gloves it and bangs into the wall and drops it?

Yeah, I’ve seen that movie before. Embarrassment in ending up with a single and not getting into scoring position. Angels just don’t play the game too well.

Can’t believe A’s manager Alvin Dark, or whoever it is now, left Ginn in the game after the single

Alvin Dark, classic baseball name. I wish we had an All-Star manager like Alvin.

Tough break for Ginn. I was skeptical when the top of the ninth went so long.

Kurtz blew it when he hit into that DP with the bases loaded.

Was hoping for Kurtz to show a bit more patience there and make a wild pitcher groove one to avoid walking in a run

For one of the most patient hitters in the game, it was an uncharacteristically crappy swing decision. Game-deciding, imo.
