We had chances early, but couldn’t capitalize against Slade Cecconi. In the first inning, Nolan and Mike both reached safely to put pressure on the Guardians right away, but Neto struck out swinging to end the threat. The missed opportunity came back quickly.
José Ramírez got Cleveland on the board in the third with a solo homer to right, giving the Guardians a 1-0 lead. Tyler Anderson settled in after that, continuing his strong outing by limiting hard contact and working efficiently through the middle innings.
We finally answered in the sixth. Newman reached third after a triple down the right field line, and Adell brought him home with a sacrifice fly to center to tie the game at one. It was one of the few moments where the offense was able to cash in against Cleveland pitching.
Cleveland responded immediately in the bottom half of the inning. The Guardians retook the lead when Will Brennan grounded out to first, allowing Schneemann to score and make it 2-1.
We tied the game in the eighth after Schanuel walked and Stevens crushed a solo homer to center, cutting the deficit to 3-2. But Cleveland answered right back in the bottom half, using a sacrifice fly from Brayan Rocchio to extend the lead again and keep the Angels chasing late.
Angels couldn’t make somethin’ up last minute. 3-2 Guardians.
