Angels vs. Guardians Postgame

We had chances early, but couldn’t capitalize against Slade Cecconi. In the first inning, Nolan and Mike both reached safely to put pressure on the Guardians right away, but Neto struck out swinging to end the threat. The missed opportunity came back quickly.

José Ramírez got Cleveland on the board in the third with a solo homer to right, giving the Guardians a 1-0 lead. Tyler Anderson settled in after that, continuing his strong outing by limiting hard contact and working efficiently through the middle innings.

We finally answered in the sixth. Newman reached third after a triple down the right field line, and Adell brought him home with a sacrifice fly to center to tie the game at one. It was one of the few moments where the offense was able to cash in against Cleveland pitching.

Cleveland responded immediately in the bottom half of the inning. The Guardians retook the lead when Will Brennan grounded out to first, allowing Schneemann to score and make it 2-1.

We tied the game in the eighth after Schanuel walked and Stevens crushed a solo homer to center, cutting the deficit to 3-2. But Cleveland answered right back in the bottom half, using a sacrifice fly from Brayan Rocchio to extend the lead again and keep the Angels chasing late.

Angels couldn’t make somethin’ up last minute. 3-2 Guardians.

No. I’m sure it really was Newman who tripled.

Jake Munroe and Juan Flores also homered tonight in Tri City – 6th and 5th, respectively.

Those are the two hitters to watch, imo, at High-A. Munroe’s power still needs to be tested at AA – he’s 12-18 months behind Guzman – but he’s a definite follow prospect.

The Angels actually have two 3B prospects in the system now…it’s been a long, long time.

“Sharte” is pretty damn funny. Kudos to the person that first coined the moniker.

Terrible team, but hey, Denzer Guzman is having himself quite a night in Salt Lake: 2 home runs, 6 RBIs in one game thus far.

He came into tonight’s game hitting .412/.500/.559 in May. Unquestionably the best Angels hitting prospect in the system, a plus glove at SS, and just turned 22 three months ago. Rounding into form at just the right time.

Not cheap taters either. Here’s #1:

In your estimation, is Guzman better at SS or 3B, defensively speaking?

Does he project anywhere else – say LF?

He’s a better shortstop than Neto, with enough arm and range for 3B – he’s logged about 50 games there since AA. I don’t think I’d take him off the dirt, personally.

I’d probably put him at 3B, and see if you can teach Peraza and Moore LF.

Interesting. Doubly interesting that he’s better than Neto at SS.

Do you think he’s close to getting called up or is he better served to keep marinating at Salt Lake?

Well, he was already called up for 13 games last fall. But I see no reason to rush him. Last year was the first time he was allowed to repeat a level at AA, and he delivered a productive season as a result.

If it were me, I’d give him a few more weeks to see if he can sustain this streak, then trade or release Moncada mid-summer and then commit to letting Denzer play the year out.

Perhaps he provides the opportunity to trade Neto.

I just read that the Angels are actually looking at that. Seeing if either Peraza or Grissom or both can play LF.

Dang – those balls are out in any park. Demolished. Even in the night air in Anaheim.

Can he play 3rd so Moncada can ride the pine?

Assuming that the club is never going to have Trout hit leadoff (Speed, Power & OBP, hello !!!) they absolutely should not have Neto batting leadoff. Peraza, Grissom, heck, even slow footed Schanny are all preferable options.

What’s the definition of insanity?

It was a long day of work. Didn’t catch 1 second of the game, again. I’m going to rewatch “The Matrix” after listening to an excellent Podcast discussion on the film recently. Brilliant film conceptually and with great aesthetics.

Just Another Halo Loss !!!! I don’t know if any of you were listening to the radio broadcast, but when Urena was pitching some kids could be heard heckling him with “Pitchers got a big butt”.

Update, the Angels are now, after tonight’s game, 4 – 29 in past 33 games in Cleveland. That’s Globetrotter/Washington Generals type record.

Both runs by Grissom and Peraza (who didn’t start).

I didn’t see the Peraza substitution – someone please tell me it was some meaningful but not-very-painful injury that will place Moncada on the IL for 60 days…

Peraza pinch hit for him, and on the first pitcher hit a triple.

But was Moncada removed for some reason that might make Peraza a lineup regular at Yoan’s expense?
