Went to the game tonight. Only my third game of the season. Tickets were way cheap on StubHub and I had a great time with my bro in law who is a good friend of mine. He’s not really into baseball but he’s learning.

Angels are 2 and 1 when I attend this year. Let’s see if that can continue.

Trout is bright light in this darkness. Games like these make me want the organization to hold on to him for life, even if it’s not the long term beneficial route.

Some gentleman wandered out of the shrubbery here earlier this week, apparently thinking we were still at war with Japan, and reported that Mike Trout was ungood, because batting average something something RBIs something something.

We directed him to the neighborhood barber and signed him up for Bill James’s newsletter, and so as not to melt his brain further, we told him we’ve always been at war with Japan and always will be, and that new guy, That’s Oh-tani, is full on Italian.

Yeah, but he only had a HR, a single and 2 walks. He didn’t hit a grand slam or walk off this game.

Bum. Trade his ass outta here.

Trout got on base in all 4 plate appearances.

He’s might grab the team lead in batting average from Jo Adell tomorrow….

In all seriousness though, it’s nice to see him atop the offensive leaderboards, batting average, RBIs and lack of WOW factor be damned:

Tied for 5th in HRs
2nd in runs scored
2nd in OBP
7th in SLG
1st in Walks

And these numbers would improve if the lineup didn’t have so many blackholes (Low, Moncada & Catcher) and so many underperforming players (Neto in particular).

I honestly thought that we would never see Trout look like this again. It’s even more impressive that he’s been patient enough to take the walks without expanding his swing zone too often. He has been pitched around a ton and the unintentional-intentional walks are stacking up because he’s more likely to drive himself in than are the guys who follow him in the lineup.

Last season, I thought we are finally seeing the permanent decline of Trout. Even with his mini-resurgence for the last 10 games last season, I thought “this is it, the end is near…” His first almost-full season in 5 years and he produced the worst numbers in his career.

So for him to actually reverse Father Time and go back to what made him great was amazing to see. He’s even sprinkling some speed in there. We downplay it a lot but I think the mental part of the game screwed him up the last few years. But this season, he’s finally healthy, AND fit, and back to his preferred position. Probably helped cleared a lot of cobwebs in his brain.
