LA Angels Wednesday News Crash: Angels Bad Bats

Morning Angels fans, have some links

Angels News

Angels lost again. Poor hitting is the main cause, but so is the bullpen. The vets in the back of it are especially bad, which have cost the team quite a few games thus far.

Maybe we are being to negative. I mean, at least Rendon is gone… wait, why is his merch being SPONSORED BY MLB?!

While Vlad Jr was never going to sign with the Angels (he loves Canada too much) he did discuss what it was like to be in Anaheim as a kid. Can’t be mad at that face.

Grayson Rodriguez is now facing live batters. The guy the Angels traded Taylor Ward for is likely not going to be in the rotation any time soon, but this was a ‘2027’ and future move anyway.

Around Baseball

At least we aren’t Mets fans. Imagine current Angels but with, like, expectations, twice the money spent, and an owner who is ACTUALLY trying to win but failing so miserably that the team is resorting to ritualism. Did not work, Mets lose 12th straight.

As a sign of brotherly love, the Phillies lost their 7th straight to be right next to the Mets in the NL East standings. At the bottom.

Blue Jays started Patrick Corbin last night, the former Angels draft pick turned trade bait turned Nats WS champ has been so bad the last 7 years that he ranks first in pretty much every major NEGATIVE category for SP. And the Angels still did not hit well against him.

It is eerie how similar Kershaw and Pedro Martinez’ careers were. After Verlander and Scherzer retire, I do not know if we will see another SP like that again.

Remember when the Angels beat the Rockies 25-1 in 2023? Fox does. And it is the largest margin of victory of any game in the last deace.

Good times… Well, GAME, 2023 sucked

Way too early to throw in the towel, folks. Keep your eyes on the ball. The only thing that matters is pitching. Stay the course with the yutes! Keep sorting through the young starters and dump the old, washed-up relievers in favor of more yutes! This can work.

Teo in center field today. I like seeing that. DH day for Trout.

Pretty solid although I would rather see Adell and Peraza flipped and I don’t understand why we have to mess up 2 OF positions when we play Soler in the field. Leave Jo in RF and put Soler in Lf.

Alright I think its time we called up Rada. Lowe needs to be sent packing.

Stick Rada in leadoff and move Neto down in the order.

At some point, you have to account for the fact that Peraza is actually the best hitter on the team with the highest BA and slugging percentage, and an OBA virtually equal with with Neto 2nd only to Trout. Trout, Neto, and Peraza are far and away our best hitters with Soler as the only other player actually hitting. You might consider trying Neto, Peraza, Trout, and Soler 1-4, or have Peraza hit behind Trout. It makes sense giving those players the most ABs since they far and away make the fewest outs and have the highest slugging averages. Who comes after that is almost irrelevant, but they should probably be followed by Schanuel, Adell, and Moncada or whoever plays for Moncada, ahead of O’Hoppe. You could bat Rada 9th for starters, essentially hitting leadoff after everyone hits once and if he excels, you could then lead him off, but I would have no issue trying him at lead off right off the bat followed by Neto, Trout, Peraza, Soler and everyone else. Who plays instead of Moncada, Fraizer or Grissom?

We need to give our best hitters the most opportunities and adjust in the future if things change dramatically.

Lowe does have a crazy low BABIP (.175) and that should revert to the mean. I’m not sure that’s enough to make him passable though.

I’d like to see someone else in LF. I’m not convinced it’s Rada though. I’d like to see Meckler get a shot. He is absolutely raking in AA so far. Jose Siri is also doing reasonably well in AAA.

Reasonable considerations.

Fire Suzuki. He doesn’t know how to draw up a lineup.

Unfortunately, with Rendon’s contract restructure over the winter, he’ll be the gift that keeps on giving for a few more years instead of being completely done with him after this year.

A few days ago, people were saying the division was our’s for the taking, and now some are ready to tie themselves to the train tracks. Just enjoy the baseball. Things will get better. The ineptness of the organization is really frustrating. I’m doing much better since I quit actually caring if we won or not because neither Perry or Arte do. Maybe Molly is our only hope. She needs to fire everyone including Arte.

That’s the thing isn’t it? I care way too much, and am not enjoying watching Angels baseball.

We have the worst owner in the sport, our GM is a dunce, GM’s handpicked manager is a moron, and the product put out on the field is atrocious.

I could stomach this trash when we had prime Trout and Shohei. Now it’s just bloody pitiful. This franchise doesn’t receive enough backlash.

I agree and feel the same way. I had to let it go for me because it was just bothering me too much.

Pomeranz – 9 IP, 7 ERA
Romano – 6.1 IP, 7.11 ERA

Can’t wait for Yates to complete the 3 BUMsketeers.

When 3/4 of the non-pitching 26-man roster can’t consistently hit the baseball, having players such as Teodosio on the roster makes zero sense. The guy can’t hit his IQ let alone his weight. If Perry is committed to having players with limited skillsets, at least get players that have potential to develop……like….Rada.

Don’t get me started on O’Hoppe. Nice pedigree, but lousy in all phases of the actual game. I’d take any of the over-weight and out of shape Molina brothers than O’Hoppe. At least a Molina can catch a great game and throw runners out.

Isn’t the purpose of the minors to allow players to develop? Why call Rada up to a team that isn’t going to make the playoffs, using limited service time, when he is already in the theoretically perfect place to allow him to develop?

Teodosio’s career will be over when the Angels are actually competitive, so might as well give him the only taste of big league money he’ll ever have in exchange for wowing fans with exciting defense.

Very valid point to consider.

The idea that the PCL is a good place for minors to develop has been debated on this forum quite a few times. A sea level stadium for AAA has been wished for by some.

Assuming that there is no real 2027 MLB season (I don’t quite subscribe to that view), I could see bringing up Rada and play him full time for a couple months and see how he does. If he does league average then keep him playing. If he really crashes hard then he can be sent back down and spends 2027 in MiLB anyway (assuming MLB rules allow him to, I don’t know how MLB determines who is MLB and who is MiLB).

And actually, even if there is a full 2027 season, I don’t see an issue with bringing up Rada now. Can LF be even a bigger sinkhole than now?

😭 dammit. I don’t think any of us should be scared of hell If we are able survive 162 games of Suzuki ball with Perry’s roster.
