Angels’ Bullpen Badly Blows it vs Blue Jays, Barren Bats Blamed as well

Taco Tuesday, Gubi Tuesday, whatever kind of Tuesday you celebrate, Angel fans hope for a win against a team that has not been as good as the one that went to the World Series last year. While game one was a loss, game 2 could be a win if the team could, you know, hit. Seriously, what happened to that team that hit 13 home runs in NY?

Where DINGRZ?

Today, they did pretty much jack squat, having a no no scare as well for a moment there. It was bad, and this is sadly the more likely outcome this year than what we saw previously.

You also need pitching, and today was Jack Kochanowicz’s day. How did he do? Well, he went 5 and 2/3 innings, giving up 1 run on 5 hits, striking out 1 and walking 2. A No decision that seems typical of him. Jack of 1 K and all. You take that.

Highlighted Recap

The game was a pitching duel. Yes, Angels in a pitching duel and it wasn’t Soriano. This is a nice change of pace. Also meant no real highlights for the first half of the game. Like, what, one GIDP by the Blue Jays?

Neto did a better one but I do not see it anywhere

Or maybe the Angels using ABS to get a strike

Yay…

Well, the Angels did score first, bottom 5 with a sac fly.

1-0 Angels

Sadly, thanks to a botched throw/scoop, Vlad jr reached base in the 6th and scored on a sac fly as well

1-1

That chased Jack, and Bachman came in. Both SP out, it was now a Bullpen Battle, and those scare me.

Nothing in the 7th, but Pomeranz came in for the 8th and allowed 2 on a double, oof.

Bruh…

Make that 3 runs

4-1 Jays

Can the Angels do anything to catch up? Well, no. But the Blue Jays were feeling grateful by hitting Adell and Soler after a 1 out Trout single. Bases loaded, and Yoan Moncada had the chance to be a hero.

And he did. A single brings in a run, bases still loaded.

4-2 Jays

Hoffman was yanked, Varland was brought in. And Nolan GIDP to end the game. Angels lost.

Upcoming

Angels face the Blue Jays again tomorrow, and then KC this weekend.

25 games into the season, and it is looking like the same as last year. And the year before that. And the year before that. And the year before that… Perhaps the next 25 games will be better, but that is not likely.

Starting pitching has been decent. Blowpen has showed up last few games. Thankfully, there is playoff hockey to distract from the dog days of…April.

schanuel is crap right now. Many ABs with runners on and doesn’t come through. We need more from our 1B.

The Good: Special-K with another solid start. Peraza with two hits. Bachman becoming consistently good.

Honorable Mention: Trout & Moncada getting 9th inning hits to almost spark a winning rally.

The Bad: Leadoff hitter, LF, Catcher and our BP options not named Bachman.

Needing CY Soriano to stop the bleeding tomorrow would be an understatement…,

I’m over Schanuel.

He’s just not really good at anything. Critical misplay tonight then the game ending double play.

Do like the fact he looked more comfortable in the box today.

Bottom third of the order is where he belongs.

How does it work if everyone in the lineup should be in the bottom third of it.

Time to turn him into a relief pitcher like everyone else Minasian drafts.

At this point things can change quickly. These recent losses have us now on a 71 win pace. Too early to know although maybe not too early to suspect what’s ahead
