Silent C had a rough first inning tonight. J.P. Crawford was out to lead off the game. Kochanowicz then gave up a three run homer to Cal Raleigh before the Angels ever came up to bat. Randy Arozarena got a one out single and Rowdy Tellez grounded out by hitting one into the shin of the pitcher. The Angels got out of the inning down 3-0 but it was obviously less than ideal. The Angels failed to score, although Schanuel doubled.
In the second inning, J.P, Crawford made up for his leadoff out by singling to drive in Cole Young and make it 4-0 Mariners. Something happened to Jorge Soler and Chris Taylor replaced him. All he did was homer to make it 4-1 Seattle.
Jo Adell hit a two out homer to make it 4-2 Seattle.
Zach Neto singled and then Taylor Ward hit a ball right in front of Cal Raleigh that Rowdy Tellez failed to hang onto at first. 4-3. They gave the error to Cal Raleigh but a couple of innings later they changed it to E3.
Chris Taylor doubled and Taylor Ward scored. 4-4 tie.
Kochanowicz was in trouble again in the fourth inning, having men at first and third with one out. He got removed in the top of the fourth with 75 pitches and Connor Brogdon came in. I guess it wasn’t a quality start. The Angels got out of this situation without further scoring. In the bottom of the fourth inning Jo Adell hit his second homer of the game to make it 5-4 Angels.
In the bottom of the fifth inning, Nolan Schanuel doubled and Mike Trout advanced him to third with a productive out. Taylor Ward doubled to make it 6-4 Angels.
Hector Neris came in to pitch the sixth inning. The Mariners promptly scored one to make it 6-5 Angels. Then the Angels brought in Brock Burke who was competent.
In the bottom of the sixth inning, Luis Rengifo and Jo Adell both reached base and advanced to second and third on a wild pitch. Zach Neto singled. 7-5 Angels.
After Neto stole second, Mike Trout walked to load the bases for Taylor Ward. Ward lined out to end that frame.
In the bottom of the seventh, Jo Adell singled to drive in Chris Taylor. 8-5 Angels. Taylor had been hit by a pitch and Rengifo singled to advance him.
Kenley Jansen came in to pitch the top of the ninth inning with the Angels up 8-5. He coughed up a one out homer to Cal Raleigh to make it 8-6 Angels.
I didn’t like the way this game started out, but it was actually kind of pleasurable. The Angels won 8-6 and took the series. Mariners can’t sail away, though. We still have them tomorrow. Sweep?
