LA Angels Thursday News Crash: Streaking!

For those of us of a certain age, “we’re going streaking!” will always invoke one movie scene. Streaking is not just for a good party, though. It happens in baseball.

Baltimore snapped an 8 game losing streak last night with an 11th inning homer by Adley Rutschman.

Taylor Ward is riding a 7 game extra base streak thanks to a double in Sacramento last night. Ward also has 5 straight with both an RBI and a run scored. He cracked a triple to dead center in the 8th inning and added a lined single in the 9th. Ward is definitely heating up.

Logan O’Hoppe is on a two game home run streak. He actually cracked two homers last night including this absolute bomb to kick off the scoring.

Hector Neris has been a really nice pickup. He’s inherited 9 runners, including 2 last night, and has not allowed a single one to score. I’m calling that a 9 inherited runners streak.

Most importantly, our Angels are on a 6 GAME WINNING STREAK, BABY!!!!!

A day game today and it would make a full week of winning. Enjoy some afternoon baseball and hope this hot streak continues.

The win over the A’s pushes the A’s losing streak to 8 games, giving them the longest current losing streak in MLB. Let’s hope it continues one more game.

I’m saving some links for tomorrow but can’t hold this one back. Olympic types are optimistic MLB will allow players to participate in the 2028 Olympics. While I highly doubt it, those games are in my backyard and as a fan I’d love nothing more. We get the World Baseball Classic next year, though, so I can’t be too greedy. I just love cheering on Team USA when we really do have our best players out there.

I dont like the lineup with Newman and Anderson. Is moncada hurt? Is heefo on the poopoo list? Could we have played Paris at second and lugo in center

I thought Moncada would be dealing with this thumb issue for the remainder of the season? Needs an extended time off from swinging a bat to completely heal.

6 games is fun and unexpected. A few guys who are very streaky are hot and they have been able to outslug their defensive gaffs, plus the relief guys have outperformed their histories.

I’m still going to look in the basement of the Big A for the body snatcher seed pods.

The Angels have received 39 home runs from players in their age 26-season or younger, the most of any team in the Majors.

Logan O’Hoppe (25): 13 HR

Zach Neto (24): 8 HR

Kyren Paris (23): 6 HR

Jo Adell (26): 6 HR

Matthew Lugo (24): 3 HR

The Angels their longest winning streak since sometime last summer. And it’s not just some lucky stretch either. The bats have seriously come alive: 15 home runs during the streak, and they’re averaging about six runs a game over the last couple of weeks. O’Hoppe launched a 470-foot bomb the other night that might still be climbing. Ward, Neto, Adell—everyone’s chipping in, and it finally feels like the offense is clicking for now. I’m nearly off the wagon and back to my hopium addiction.
The Athletic had a stat the other day that really stuck with me. The Angels are the clutchiest team in baseball, according to FanGraphs’ Clutch metric. “That’s a stat that compares a team’s offensive statistics in low-leverage situations to how they perform in high-leverage situations, and the Angels aren’t just at the top: They’re lapping the rest of the league. I don’t know if that’s a sustainable formula, but it’s a hell of a fun one to watch.
Pitching’s been solid too. Kikuchi and Kochanowicz have both had good starts, and Kenley Jansen has looked sharp in the closer role—three saves, (10? Total?) no walks. They’re sitting at 23-25 now, which isn’t great on paper, but it sure feels a lot better than it did a couple of weeks ago.
Today they’re going for seven straight against the A’s, who have lost eight in a row. Neto, Rengifo, Ward, Soler, O’Hoppe, Adell, Lugo, Newman, and Anderson are in the lineup. First pitch is 12:35. I’ll have a tab open at work… The vibes are good but the most fun has been fun reminding Doyer fans about last weekend.  Let’s keep this going.

The team record is 11 consecutive wins, accomplished when the Angels actually played in Los Angeles. A win today would tie for 19th most in the team’s history. The last time they won 7 in a row was against Oakland and Texas during the 2022 season.

I hope Ward is this hot right around the trade deadline so we can improve our prospect haul.

Unfortunately if the Halos are within 10 games of the WC race Arte will hold all his cards near his bird chest and worst, maybe even further erode the Halos’ future and desecrate what little MiLB capital we have.

The deadline is two months away and needless to say, MANY things can & will happen between now and then. The most likely scenario is that we’re completely out of contention and trading aways some of the veterans will be the route the team takes.

HOWEVER, I say we enjoy the current ride.

I heard that he’s trying to put a package together to trade for Ohtani.

It’s more likely than not that both Soler and Ward are not traded until next year.

I hope when we win the pennant, Taylor is here starting in LF.

He is too righteous of a dude to be discarded for AA prospects.

Could be a nice June pick-up if a major contender suffers a significant loss

Look at Jeff Joiner taking the mound 2 days in a row and providing links. With a cold Weaver like stare, Jeff says “ Give me the Links”

Wonder if Jeff has that Jansen leg twitch when he comes in for relief

Couldn’t find a standout performance from the farm yesterday so the 5/21 top prospect performance is going to Victor Mederos.

6 innings
3 ER
7 hits
4 strikeouts
1 walk

4 starts AAA:
23.2 innings
2.28 ERA
0.93 WHIP
.188 opp BA
19 strikeouts
6 walks

I do because I’m certainly not tracking the results/performances.

Quick comment:

Randazzo and Guby were saying that no other team has had to play in a MiLB park for a couple of seasons like the stA’s.

Ummmmm, aren’t the Rays in the same position, though from a different circumstance?

I don’t think they will get to roof repaired before next season unless they already issued a contract back in December.

Things are very contentious over the stadium repair/replacement and it is moving quite slow.

Didn’t the rays play their games at a minor league stadium before?

My understanding is that they had not even broken ground on the stadium in Las Vegas and it is expected to be completed before the 2028 season. So that would mean the A’s don’t have a home for 2025, 2026, and 2027?

Yes, I don’t see the rays playing at their regular stadium next year. Which will have the next roof blown off when another mega storm comes thorough that area.

It’s really shitty of the A’s to not include Sacramento in the name when they are going to be there for so long.

Yep I would have loved to see the scoreboard abbreviations when the Orioles were coming to town:

SAC 0

It would be an interesting little sports apparel anomaly as well.

Sacramento A’s.

well, no other team has in the past, so they are right.

and if you want to get really technical, the A’s are playing in purely a MiLB facility, whereas the Rays play in a Spring training facility that doubles as a MiLB facility

Well, if we keep going like this I’m going to dig through some boxes in the garage, move around the plethora of pogs and grab my thunder sticks. LOL

Actually, I’m just enjoying the ride right now.

Go Halos!

I would actually be happy to see Rengifo traded and Adell, Lugo, and Paris all play every day until Trout Returns.

Nice to see some things coming around. It helps when SS and C can produce offense. That takes the pressure off the other spots. Let’s hope they can keep things going.
