LA Angels Thursday News Crash: Catch a Catcher

Hey! The Dodgers DFAd Austin Barnes. He is slightly worse than d’Arnaud by bWAR. Meanwhile, Matt Thaiss has over twice the bWAR that Logan O’Hoppe has for the season so far.

We won’t be seeing Ben Joyce any more this season. Let the kids convalesce. Sports Illustrated thinks Luis Rengifo has been benched because of brain farts and crappy offense.

The Pirates claimed infielder/outfielder Michael Helman off waivers from the Cardinals. The Astros designated pitcher Tayler Scott for assignment.

Akil Baddoo made it back up to the bigs and Jace Jung got optioned.

Cardinals pitching prospect Sem Robberse just had Tommy John surgery. The Mariners placed Bryce Miller on the IL with elbow issues and called up Jhonathan Diaz. Jose Quintana is on the injured list with left shoulder impingement.

A total of seventeen players have become eligible post mortem with that recent decision by Rob Manfred.

At this point I just feel they should rush Trout back onto the field so we can get the inevitable “…reaggravated his [Insert specific injury]…….out the rest of the season” out of the way.

It’s sad — but who cares if Trout plays or not? It no longer matters. Beyond the meaningless HR with no one on base, what does he prospectively bring to the team? He’s a shell of what he was and can’t be depended on to remain on the field.

Sadly, this is true.

Trout’s status is now “late May” meaning that the 10-Day IL was BS.

“Late May” really means mid-June at best.

I am positive that Perry Minasian is in over his head as Eppler was. The Frustration felt by Jedi is now understood. He was about sell/trade to keep trying to excel. He has done much improving the M’s while we just stay in free fall. I feel what he one time felt-frustration-for different reasons, but still the same.

Yes, either Neeeeefo or Paris will start losing everyday ABs to Lugo soon.

Send Paris down for God’s sake!

Just like they should have done with Paris when he was hot, Lugo should play everyday until he cools off. All of the youngsters need to play every day but can’t until we trade Rengifo and Ward.

The errors the Angels commit are hard to watch. It seems they have at least one gaffe each game. It’s hard to explain as most players are veterans and Washington is big on clean play. Moncada really hurt them last night. O’Hoppe the night before. And the pitcher on Monday.

PTP has never focused on defense. Rengifo, Schanny, O’Hoppe have never been defensive wizards.

The post game interview with Washington was a little bit cringey.

Yeah, he’s so bad at every part of job, now including infield defense coaching.

He couldn’t remember his players names and the innings of a play. Has he checked out on the season?

I think he stopped caring last season. I forget exactly when it was, but he went on a rant about the lack of talent on the roster. The roster is no better this season. He gets paid whether he’s on the field or at home.

This is why I think he needs to be replaced, because he doesn’t want to manage the team he has or to recognize the reality of the fact that the team is bad and not going to get markedly better for at least a few years if we’re lucky. But I would have renewed respect for him if he told the truth and rated out his bosses “We’re not winning anything for a while and it’s important that our younger players play so they can learn. it will be hard to watch for a while.”
