Twins Obliterate Angels 11-4

Kyle Hendricks is a finesse pitcher. He needs to be in great command to have a good game. This was not one of them. He went 3+ innings giving up 7 runs (4 while actually pitching and 3 by the bullpen) on 3 it’s, striking out 3 and walking 5. He left with the bases loaded and no outs in the 4th and Edwards let all 3 score. Angels were down 9-1 by the time that nightmare of an inning was over.

Side note, reliever letting runs score shouldn’t be entirely the starters fault. I don’t like how earned runs works like that, it should be a weighted system based on outs and what base the runner is on.

Anyway, the offense had their work cut out got them. They were up against Pablo Lopez. The good thing, however, was that they made him work, putting his pitch count so high that he had to leave after 5 innings. The bad news was, again, that 9-1 deficit. It would be a hell of a comeback for the Angels if they pulled it off.

Highlighted Recap Angels Highlights

Yeah, it got ugly, so here are just the Angels highlights.

Jo Adell made a nice catch in the first.

1-0 Twins though

Adell also knocked in the first Angel run of the game.

Defense was on their game today as Ward also made a nice catch.

Trout had an rbi today. It’s something…

Logan hit a home run in the 6th to make it look less bad.

9-3 Twins

Trout also hit a home run. His 9th of the year. Now he is 66th all time in home runs.

Healthy Trout is a sight to see

Angels lose badly. Turn the page.

Upcoming

2 more games this weekend in Minnesota. Hope they go way better than this one did.

That bad 20 pitcher draft of Perry’s was a disaster since Chase Silseth was the best player from that trainwreck.
Organizational depth was the reason given to Gubi and Salmon (WTF! that’s for winning teams like the Astros and Dodgers).

Angels have only 20 international scouts THE LEAST IN MLB….sources Keith Law and Sam Blum. Giants have 30 + and the Yankees have 40+ Dodgers gotta have at least more than the Giants.

Good morning everyone.

Let’s take a look at Kyle Hendricks, both overall and recently, shall we.

For starters he carries a bloated ERA of 6.65 and an ugly WHIP of 1.39. He is 0-3 and has not won a single game for us.

Recently, in his last three starts he has given up 15 earned runs in only 12 innings of work, getting past the 4th inning in only one of those games. Needless to say we lost each of these games. Here are the last three starts:

4/25 @ MIN. 3 IP, 7 ER, 5 BB
4/19 vs SF 5 IP, 3 ER, 2BB
4/13 @ HOU 4 IP, 5 ER, 3 BB

It is basically an automatic L when we throw him out there. The Angels have no chance in a competitive AL West if every 5th day they start somebody who gives you basically zero chance of winning.

Caden Dana can’t be worse can he ? And though raw Klassen would have to be signficantly better than this. We also have the most obvious solution on board already, which is to promote Reid Detmers to a SP.

The time is now. Do the right thing Perry.

We need to get Detmers ready for next year anyway.

F_ next year. I want to win THIS YEAR. Why are we always pushing the business of winning off into some distant future date? This team currently has the longest playoff drought in ALL of MLB. Breaking that negative streak needs to be the number one priority.

The time is now. Neto is not a rookie. Logan is not a rookie. Make the move Perry!

You’re going to be very frustrated then because this team isn’t close to being a winning team yet.

I disagree with that. Is your view sacrosanct ? And btw, what teams would we be competing with for a Wild Card (assuming Texas wins the West, which I think is a good bet)? Although Texas is really not a sure thing as they rely totally on pitching.

Cleveland ? We already showed we can beat them. Boston ? I think we are better than them. Even though we lost the series in Houston I still think we can be better then the Astros (assuming Perry finally gets rid of Hendricks and puts Dana or Detmers or whomever in his place). The Blue Jays don’t scare me.

Exactly which of these teams I mentioned do you think are so much better than us that we don’t stand a chance of competing with them ?

No but it’s accurate. Even in our own division we will not finish ahead of the Astros or the Mariners and maybe not even the A’s. Sorry, I’ll check back on this later in the season. I’m not happy about it but it is the reality.

All teams in the AL West are bunched within 2.5 games of eachother. There is no reason to believe anybody stands head and shoulders above the rest. It just so happens you are making your comments during a bad stretch of games for the Angels.. when we had just won 8 of 10 games would you have been saying the same thing ?

Again, nobody out there is clearly a dominant team. The Mariners just lost last night at home to the Marlins. It is not like the Angels are bereft of talent and outclassed by these teams in the West. Do we have some issues? Sure. But so do these other teams…

And btw if you think the Angels are a last place team in the West I will bet you good money that does not happen.

Because someone, and we we all know who I’m talking about makes all the decisions. Perry and Washington are still here mainly because nobody else who’s worth a damm wants the job.

Silent C has twice pitched 6 innings giving up only 2 runs ( a quality start). Yes, he did also have a couple stinkers, but I think we can all see the upside and the overall ability. At least when he goes out there we feel we can be competitive. Not so with Hendricks. It is all about stuff.

And speaking of stuff, Soriano has the best on the staff (for starters). He is also going through growing pains, but the upside and ability are clear to see for those with eyes.

You wanted to win now. All 3 of these guys will limit the team this season. merely pointing out all these guys are dragging the team down. Replacing Hendricks won’t solve the fact more time is needed for the other two.

You make it sound like Soriano is a lost cause for this season. I don’t know that that is the case… I would not be shocked if he starts to more consistently flash his full potential this season. I mean, we already saw some of it last year. Like most talented young players he will probably continue to grow, however, that does not mean he can’t help us right now.

Put a fork in ’em, Hendricks is done. He has been done for a few years, but our GM thought it would work, but it is just more trash heap. PTP can’t and does not know how to evaluate talent and with a very weak Scouting Dept. the GM has no chance at all. Perry’s career rests in the draft.

PTp has no budget. Hendricks is going to give you about 40% of decent pitching games. He was a flyer pick.

Perry got very very very lucky with Neto (played at a tiny FL college and not Florida or LSU).
Otherwise if he played at SEC powerhouse program school he would’ve been a top 6 pick.

Good Sat. morn, stellar pitching by the Halos, typical hitting, and Trout did have 2 RBI’s with ONE being on a HR, trAdition.

LeBron was an absolute stud in that game. Luka was horrible and probably lost us the game with his horrific shooting performance. Though, I later discovered he very likely was dealing with a stomach bug.

Too many turnovers (Luka alone had 5 of them !), too many mental mistakes.

I do not like the outcome of this game. I am going to act as though it didn’t really happen. Failing that I am going to claim Putin interfered in this game and defend America by calling anyone who tries to convince me the Twins just strait up kicked our ass a traitor.

Perhaps, but my sources tell me that most of the players were on a Signal chat with unnamed DoD war planners working through the tactics to conquer Stock Island. This took place during the Twins game using the world’s smallest blue tooth devices available on Temu.

It wasn’t until after the game that the participants realized that Stock Island was part of the Florida Keys.

I guess the league felt this knucklehead schedule was justified because Minnesota is only about halfway across the country. I’m surprised the team could tie their own shoes after that late game and 2000 miles on an airplane.

Not at all a surprising result considering the extenuating circumstances.

Take tomorrow and perhaps the 3rd game and it’s still a net positive.

Trout with his 9 HR and 18 RBI’s is still top 10’ish in said categories. Shrug.

I usually wait until we’ve played 40 games to get a firm impression of what we have. The schedule evens out, with home vs away and games vs good teams or bad teams.

We’ve got 2 more vs the Twins, then 2 in Seattle before we come home of a massive homestand. (Tigers, Blue Jays, Orioles). After that there’s one more game to reach #40, in San Diego. If we’re at somewhere like 18-22 at that point that’s pretty good, considering our talent level. Anything better than that would be a big surprise. An 18-22 pace would give us about 73 wins over the whole season and after last year I’d be ok with that.

The pen is showing signs of concerns again. Thought it would be much more impactful. It’s all on the starters to bang out 6-7 innings of good baseball.

steelgolf
Legend

The pen is already having issues because Washington has been pulling the starters after 73 or so pitches so the opposing team doesn’t get to see the starter for a 3rd time. This is going to be a problem throughout the season.

Pick your poison if you’re 15 WAR Wash: shaky starters or shaky relievers.

Better starters are the key ingredient and we’re lacking ingredients.::
