SO. Other Than the Angels, Who’re Your Favorite Teams and Why?

The Angels suck. Arte boo friggin who. Limp needle. Blah blah blah. The DoySkanks and their freckled little brother the Mets will try to buy a series from this point on. A golden age of baseball is heading your way as long as you enjoy piss. It’ll be even harder on Angels fans since they will likely not be in on the race to finish #3 every season the way teams like the Orioles and Snakes seem to be striving for.

But who says we still can’t enjoy baseball. It’s a great sport in general. The MLB just kinda sucks. So, if the Angels were stuck into a science freezer for a decade till Arte sells and some something maybe happens, who are your top five other teams you’d watch and why? There’s other MLB teams. Maybe there’s an MiLB team or college team you really like? Who and why? And no captain cutesy. Your kids little league team doesn’t count…. it would be weird if I just started showing up to watch a kids team that I have no connection to.

For me it is:

The Reds: Yes, they actually suck instead of just being kind of mired the way the Angels are. But they are in an easier division. Eric Davis was among my favorite players as a kid. I love the team history. I like the city of Cincinnait. Mr & Mrs Red are fun. I really like their young team, the pitching staff, De La Cruz, McLain and Stephenson. I dig em. Fun team, may actually make a run. Their farm is also fun to keep track of.

The Royals: Again, history. I loved the “Royals Academy” era. George Brett was awesome. Bo Jackson. Quisenberry. Gubi. A team from KC taking on teams like Jackson’s Yankees in the late 70s? That was great. Their championship era team of resent past was little annoying just cause Hoz etc were a little too bro for me, but I really enjoy Perez. I think Vinnie Pasquantino, Dairon Blanco, Mike Massey and Freddy Fermin are fun to watch. The pitching staff of no names is fun too. But of course, the big cheese is Bobby Witt Jr. I love that guy. He’s a blast to watch. I also want to go to their stadium some day. It looks cool.

The Pirates: I have always liked the Pirates. It’s cause I grew up a Steelers fan. But, again, I love their history. I love Willie Stargell, Dave Parker, Blyleven, Tekulvi, Candelaria, Clemente. They have had a lot of players I thought were cool growing up like Johnny Ray, Andy Van Slyke, Doug Drabek. PNC Park is a cathedral. Their fans are really cool. McCutchens always been a favorite, I really think Oniel Cruz is due to break out big, he is literally almost Simba at 3B, Reynolds is fun to watch too. Skenes and their kid pitchers are great and they have a really fun looking farm system to eventually trade away to other teams cause Nutting is a true crap owner.

The Tigers: I enjoy the Guardians too, but I have always been a Tigers fan because I had friends growing up who loved them. Magnum PI too. Otherwise, same as above. History. Young kids I like watching. Cool town. Probably the classiest uniforms in the sport.

The Diamondbacks: The Padres are cool too. Like both teams cause I hate the Doyers. But I got a soft spot for AZ when they beat the Yankees and then most of their stars became Yankees or Red Sox. Sad. I always liked Goldschmidt. Their stupid uniforms are endearing. But I really like their roster, especially Corbin Caroll. Christian Walker is one of my favorite players but he’s gone. Still, they have a pretty beefy pitching staff and a high energy offense so I’ll be watching their games this year.

I also like the Orioles and Rays, the Braves and I kinda like the White Sox too cause they are the Shelly Duval of baseball. Always glad to see the Brewers and Cardinals do well. Rootin for the UCSB Gauchos too.

So there’s plenty of fun left to be had. Who do you like?

Whoever is playing the Yankees.
Reds were my favorite until I started going to Angel games about 2000.
I never knew you could switch but here we are, and I keep wondering if it can happen again with the way the Angels were ground down.

I like to college game too. I watch my alumni team the Dirtbags in Long Beach. Padres are the family’s NL team, try to vacation in SD every year to watch them. I’m just a huge MLB fan and enjoy every team cept Dodgers and Yanks. I tend to follow players, some of my favorites were Gwynn, Larkin, Will Clark, Posey, Chipper Jones, Greenwell, Joyner, Bagwell.. made me follow some of their teams during those eras.

The first MLB hat that I had my parents buy for me was the Baltimore Orioles when I was about 8 or 9. The O’s have a great logo for Kids with the Oriole swing the bat. I have always like that franchise. I was also a fan of the Big Red Machine (Reds) and I still like the Red and I am drawn to classic uniforms. Finally, right after I became an Angels’s fan in 1976, my small town got cable tv and my dad and I watched the Atlanta Braves all the time on WTBS. It was the first that I could follow a team day by day. It is amazing how loyal that I remained to the Angels as I would have thought that the Braves would have become my team.

Your story made me remember those cheap, plastic, batting helmets they used to sell at super markets / Kmarts? Had warning sticker inside (this is not a batting helmet). They had them in huge wire bins, with most of the MLB teams mixed in. Wearing one while playing wiffle ball made you feel like a pro.

Padres. Caught several games at Petco when visiting Miss UCSD. Decided that they would be my NL team.

I’m too snakebit by growing up a Chargers fan to ever support another San Diego team, but spending a day hanging out around Petco in the Gaslamp is awesome.

One of the best experiences in baseball.

Diamondbacks: I arrived in Phoenix in 1995 and they came in 1998, we had season tickets that first season and went to World Series games in 2001 and 2023. I remain hopeful that technology will be able bring live video of their games to me on the MLB app some day. Until then they kind of are a mystery team because I don’t watch them.

Yankees – typically each day on the West Coast, early games are on starting at 4pm. Which team do you want to watch that early window? I’ve been going with the Yankees for years – good players and good broadcast crew.

I was a HUUUUGE Giants fan while Buster Posey was playing. He was my favorite player that didn’t wear a Halo’s uniform for a long time.

Until he retires my favorite team outside of Anaheim is wherever Shohei is.

That’s as far as I can stretch.

Halos signed Tim Anderson (MiLB contract). Nice signing……..six years too late.

I really wanted to like the Padres and their plucky upstart narrative but it turns out that I find myself not liking the actually players on the team. I started watching them play the Dodgers in playoffs with every intention of rooting for them. As the games progressed I realized that the Dodgers player like Betts, Freeman, Kershaw and Ohtani that were so much easier for me to like.

As I have aged, I’m less inclined to hang as much stock in the uniform and find myself pulling more for individual players to have success. I still dislike the Yankees but I really think Aaron Judge is a great player and teammate.

Love the Colts, even if the post-Luck era has been mostly meh. I was born and raised in Indiana before I moved to CA 15 years ago and adopted the Angels.

Colts play at the Chargers next year BTW…

The post-Luck era has been abysmal. Very, very little joy lol.

We are actually playing the Chargers and Rams in SoFi next season. So I’ll be ponying up Colts/Rams, Colts/Chargers, and Chiefs/Chargers.

Lived in Arizona when they got started so Diamondbacks. Also have a soft spot for the Orioles because nobody could kick dirt on umpires like Earl Weaver.

Tampa Bay, San Diego and Baltimore.

Why? I like the underdogs and those teams that make the most of what they have.

As for why Baltimore? Boog Powell.

DODGERS BABYYYY!!…sike

If I had to choose a new team I’d probably say the Padres or Braves, although admittedly I don’t watch any games from other teams.

I do wonder how many people here will admit to their newfound fandom of the Doyers…

I used to root for the Angels for 162, and then the Dodgers during the post season because my team never made it. It did feel good to watch the Angels make the post season while the Dodgers got an early start on the golf links. I would relish an I5 world series and root for the halos.

other favorites come and go. I started out rooting for the Cardinals because of Stan Musial, near the end of his career. Once he retired I rooted for the Mets…but then they traded Seaver and now they have Wanker. There are teams that I dislike intensely. The Big Pill Poppers in Boston, the Skanks, the White Sux ever since 2005, the Cheaters, the Mariners. When you get down to it there aren’t too many left.

I suppose I could root for the Phillies or any other team with an ex-Angel or three. The Padres are a possibility. I’d kind of like to see a Cleveland championship since it’s been such a long time for them.

I always liked the Orioles since the early years of division play, even if they ruined my best chance to watch a playoff game (I had tickets to game 5 in 1979). They had a pair of Robinsons, and a pitching staff like I’d never seen until the Braves of the 90s. Then they slide down from mediocre to bad to really bad and are now good again. It gives me hope the Angels will see the light again.

Ya Giants for the same reason, and I’m moving to NoCal when I retire and my team will be the Gi’nts. I always did kind of root for the O’s when they’re in the playoffs.

on a more serious note, my first little league team was the Rockies, so I’ve been partial to them ever since

Brewers I like because of the old school logo and my best friend’s uncle pitched for them

Dbacks and Cleveland I like as well, had a friend pitch with them for a few years so I “rooted” for them
