LA Angels Monday News Crash:

Here is Arte saying Arte things. I gather he intends to have the Angels make the postseason in 2025. He used that word competitive again. It looks like this is just a more elaborate write up of the speech we linked about last week.

The Dodgers won their first NLCS game against the Mets. The Guardians versus Yankees game 1 is this afternoon at 4:30 P.M. California time.

Dodgers pitcher Gavin Stone will probably miss all of 2025 due to his recent shoulder surgery. For Julian Aguiar of the Reds, it’s Tommy John surgery keeping him off the mound next year.

Here is a ranking of the teams in the Arizona Fall League.

Personally, Joe Davis blows because he is so obviously a Dodgers homer; he’s as overrated as Joe Buck was. And John Smoltz is about as bad as it gets: total, constant worthless verborrhea. No insight at all and dumb as all get-out. I can’t believe how bad this dipshit is.

OTOH, Brian Anderson and Jeff Francoeur called the ALCS: really good. Anderson is underrated. He knows the game, is witty, and knows how to work TV.

It’s to D@mn early to say go Dodgers, for me because I can’t stand the Mets, though not as bad as the Braves, Asstros or Yankees.

I will definitely go on the record with a “Go Indians Guardians!”

why stop at ’26 when we know that this team will be even deeper in ’27. then deeper in ’28. Max depth in ’29? Nope. ’30. only to be superseded by the depth of ’31.

I agree, I believe it has been awhile since Cleveland has won world series. They are my sentimental favorite. Can’t say I know too much about the current team though

You all know I hate the Evil Blue Empire of the Latrine as much as any of you. My credentials are well supported over the years. At this point, I must confess I am actually wanting The Blue to win it all. The only reason is I don’t want Shohei to bear the label Greatest Player Without A Ring. Regretfully, that is probably going to be Trouty’s legacy. The perpetrator of the single greatest game in baseball history deserves a World Series win.

I’m kinda there myself. I hate the Dodgers and always have. But I do respect Ohtani immensely and he deserves to win a Championship regardless if he left the Angels for that purpose. If I was that talented and in the prime of my career I think I would have done the same. You can dislike the Dodgers and still root for Ohtani.

All of that said, Go Cleveland!!

The graphic on Ohtani’s RISP average that they displayed during last night’s game was incredible. I can’t locate it online but it was something like 17 for his last 22 and then he got another hit.

No. I don’t give a shit who plays for the Toilets. I wondered who I could possibly root for in 2017, as both teams are abhorrent. Turned out, besides all of the heartache that the Roid Suck have brought to me as a fan, I rooted for the Turds to lose.

At this point in the playoffs, I’m at a bit of a loss on who to root for. I really wanted to see the Padres win that crucial fifth game, but it wasn’t in the cards. I’ve been hearing that the Dodgers believed Yamamoto was tipping his pitches in the game where he gave up five runs. And, of course, with all their resources, they seemed to have fixed that issue, which just highlights how the Dodgers continue to be a dominant force despite only winning it all in the shortened COVID season. It’s wild how the big money teams can afford to make some bad signings and still minimize the damage.
But I’ll admit, while I’ve growing tired of Dodgers fans. The Ron Burgundy “F you, San Diego” clips are hilarious, but that’s about the only bright spot. As for the playoff picture, I could see myself backing either Cleveland or the Mets. Still, the looming possibility of another Yankees-Dodgers matchup makes my heart sink. Growing up, I hated the Yankees, and the heartbreak of the Dodgers’ losses in ’77 and ’78 still stings. Hard to believe but true.  Sure, it might be satisfying to watch the Dodgers avenge those losses, but the idea of enduring the noise from Dodgers fans just feels unbearable right now.
While I respect the class that guys like Ohtani, Betts, and Freeman bring to the game, it’s not enough to overcome the constant noise from their fans. I just can’t get fully behind Cleveland or the Mets either, beyond wanting to see the Yankees fail.
But here’s the beauty of baseball: your team finds you. Last night, it was the Mets. Today? Any team that faces off against the Yankees. And that’s why we love the game—it’s unpredictable, emotional, and always manages to bring you back to where your heart belongs, even when you’re not sure who that might be.

The Padres gave the Dodgers a wake up call, they look much different against the Mets. Despite the severity of my dislike of the Dodgers, I don’t think the three other teams can beat them in a seven game series.

So my baseball season is officially over and I’m ready for College Basketball.

If the Dodgers do lose in a seven-game series, Roberts will just complain again about how many games there were.

I haven’t lived in SoCal for three decades and increasingly find myself pulling for the Dodgers in these series despite my dislike of their media coverage and fans while I was growing up. Ohtani, Freemen (Go Vanguards!), Betts, Dave Roberts and several others are class acts that any team would love to have.

If the uniforms were changed we wouldn’t most of us love to have their team and organizational approach?

Now the Yankees on the other hand can burn to ground for all I care. Their fans invading SoCal and the arrogance they brought to the Big A are still burned into my memories.

In my 50 years as a baseball fan, I don’t think I’ve seen an organization run as well as the Dodgers have been for the past 14 years. The closest comparison I can think of is the Braves of the 90s, who were consistently dominant yet, like the Dodgers, only managed to win a single World Series during that stretch. If the Wild Card expansions hadn’t come into play, I believe the Dodgers could’ve realistically won 4-6 championships in this era.
One of the main reasons I’ve always hated the Yankees is that they had more money to spend than anyone else, and I’m starting to feel the same way about the Dodgers. The difference now is that the Dodgers have actually eclipsed the Yankees in terms of spending power and, annoyingly, they spend it wisely. You can’t help but respect how smart they’ve been in building their team, even if it stings as a rival fan.
Meanwhile, my beloved Angels seem to be stuck signing the likes of Rendon and other players who looked great on billboards but haven’t lived up to their contracts on the field. The contrast between the two franchises couldn’t be more frustrating.

All good points. It is frustrating when your team lacks the flexibility to make a bad decision. The Dodgers and the Yankees have both made some poor trades and FA signings but can spend their way out or utilize prospect capital to get things corrected.

I do see the Dodgers consistently chasing high character players.

We do have the freedom to overcome bad signings, just not $40M ones like Rendon, who aren’t just not as good as they used to be, but they’re not even replacement level. And our owner, for better or worse, runs his club like a business and not a toy or for prestige. With a team that was competing for the World Series annually, Arte could overcome the Redon contract but that requires risks that investment that are not in Arte’s plan..

Run well? BS! You guys kill me. On the position player side, the only difference between the Dodgers, Yankees etc. and everyone else is money. Need a player, just go out and sign the best one available. When that one burns out, just buy another one. Pitching is a little harder because they burn out faster! But the same approach applies. Name another business where this approach works long term.

Despite it all Mike Trout is still the guy that you don’t want to miss any of his at bats!!

We don’t need Mike Trout to be an MVP. We just need Mike Trout to get on the field, Moreno said. Because whether he’s a DH or playing a corner, whatever he’s doing, when Mike Trout comes up to bat, it really protects the other guys and he can change the game with one swing.

He was running the bases like crazy last year and guess what happened. Hopefully he has a better understanding of his physical limitations next year and prioritizes staying injury free. I’d be happy with a full season of 25+ HR and 250 average at this point.
