Nothing happened in the first inning except for this defensive play by Taylor Ward.
Samuel Aldegheri had his troubles in the second inning. Go figure! I thought that was mandatory. He walked in a run for the Astros. Yordan Alvarez then hit a sacrifice fly to make it 2-0 Houston. In the bottom of the next inning, Kyle Tucker singled and Alex Bregman homered to make it 4-0 Astros. In the third inning, the Angels got Adams to first and second on a walk and a steal. Jack Lopez also walked. A Taylor Ward Groundout advanced both runners by one base. A Zach Neto groundout scored Jordyn Adams. 4-1 Astros.
Nolan Schanuel singled to score Jack Lopez.4-2 Astros.
No more scoring happened until the Angels part of the Angels part of the fourth inning. Mickey Moniak made it 4-3 Astros with this jack.
Now we had a really lengthy stretch of no scoring or other cool stuff. Suarez allowed no runs over four innings. I apologize for some of the things I said about him.
In the ninth inning Yordan Alvarez hit a homer off of Brock Burke to make it 5-3 Astros. Yainer Diaz then doubled. After Diaz had made it to third, the Angels intentionally walked Alex Bregman. With men on first and third with two outs, the Astros could not score another run.
In the bottom of the ninth inning, Nolan Schanuel popped out to center to bring up Charles Le Blanc, who struck out. Logan O’Hoppe came in to pinch hit. He struck out swinging. The Angels lost 5-3.

I do believe Wash gets more out of his players than any manager we’ve had in the last 30+ years….including Soth. The fact remains the team as constructed isn’t good, and getting to the mid-60’s in wins represents a major accomplishment by Wash.
Neto, Schanuel, O’Hoppe, Dana and the other kids have displayed moments of talent. Without consistency across seasons, the current sample size lacks the duration to label them “stars”. It’s patently unfair to these players not to give them the seasons necessary to mature and tune their skills.
I’m optimistic for the future as long as the front office is patient and commits to “play the kids”. The fan base also needs to be patient because there will be more losses than wins over the next two or three seasons. This is necessary to build something that can endure.
Not going to say what I want to say because I caused enough trouble yesterday…I’ll save it for another time.
Posting to tell everyone that your not going to post? 🤔
I know…it’s so 78.
I’m of the school that a manager doesn’t deserve much credit….or blame. A field manager of professional baseball players is just not that important over 162 games. Maybe (arguably) in the playoffs where each decision has greater impact a manager makes a difference.
I think Wash had an easy job this year with zero expectations. I’m not saying he did a bad or even a meh job. I just can’t say with any certainty that he did a good job. It’s all feelz and emotional analysis rather than anything that is analytical.
Are the young kids performing decently and improving? It appears so. But I’m not sure it’s fair to give Wash the credit as opposed to any other coach or the quality and ability of the player.
I would say Wash was more like 0 WAR (neither positive or negative in the win column) which is actually good for a manager. But again it’s really impossible to measure unlike player performance.
Good points.
I believe managers can do more harm than good, but I think Wash has done a solid job this year. I like the fact that his personality is not a distraction and his players seem to like and respect him. He is definitely not one of the problems. He just needs better players.
Bottom line, Wash has a fundamentally sound approach to baseball. I think a lot of managers give that idea lip service more than anything. I think he preaches it, believes it, mandates it. With a bunch of very young kids, couldn’t ask for a better leader. Expecting improvement in running the bases next year, more emphasis on situational hitting, continued improvement on defense. I firmly believe that in another couple of seasons, we will have a team with a foundation of a solid fundamentally sound team. Does things right and more nights than not will be competitive. And as you said, if they somehow add more better players they better fit with Wash.
Free Wash
Free .500 baseball in 2025
Young leaders rock……BTW he’s got a championship, how many does Wash have?
Hi?
I approve this message!
I’m looking forward to 2025. Setting a goal of .500 baseball sounds about right.
I don’t agree with this comment one bit.
What are you basing this comment on anyway? We’re headed to possibly our worst won loss record in team history (65-95 in 1980, BTW after failing to retain Nolan Ryan).
When I woke up this morning and reviewed the “to do” list, at the very top was “post something in CtPG that met with 2002heaven’s sternest disapproval”.
Looks like it’s Mission Accomplished!
Imagine an angel fan saying wash got more out of his players than Sosh lmfaooooooooooo this is the most bonkers shit I’ve seen on this site but I guess recency bias is a thing and who can’t deny the education these kids are getting.
Serial complainer is on the mound for the cheaters tonight…HAMMER HIM PLEASE!!!
Welp. Apparently Cy Rookie isn’t Clemens yet. Shocker. Pen is still lookin solid and that’s nice. Adams looks like he’ll get a long look and maybe that’ll help him for next year. Moniak is still a McDonalds cheeseburger. It’s September, so the team’s just about out of players. At least it didn’t happen in July. Maybe class act never quit hardcore teamfirst fker Shohei Ohtani will show up and help a couple guys clean out their lockers this weekend for old times sake. It’s still more fun watching these losers try hard than the teams we had the last couple years. They sure aren’t good yet, but you can tell a bunch of them actually give a shit. I wish we had more kids. For some reason I actually like the guys on our coaching staff too…. way more than I should on a 95 loss team…. ah well. At least I get to watch my football team get QB action from Justin Fields and Russell Wilson. Booze.
Best description of easy way, gambler, erase the red, now I’m a base stealer – Ohtani that I’ve seen on this site.
He couldn’t steal for us at the rate he is now genius bc he was pitching you know like when he went 15-9 with a 2.33 era and 172 era+ in 22 while hitting 34 bombs. He also did mange to steal over 20 bags twice
First of all nice name, can tell your a fan. Not the qty of stolen bases last year look at how many times he got nailed. I’m not ripping Ohtani greatness of a player, It’s his decision to simply hop over the freeway to sign with big blue brother who many in this fan base hate. Sign anywhere else, who cares. Not going to get into long argument about deferring money and recruiting the best pitcher in Japan for his new team. Before you say there is no competitive rival with Dodgers because they’re better than us, no shit. The bitterness with that club is about territory; arrogance by fan/organization they own So Cal and mock/crap on Angels continuously. You like Ohtani good for you., go buy a black LA hat (more popular than blue) and enjoy the ride
Man you really are a bitter old piece of shit. Even when Ohtani was here all you did was try to downplay and minimize his accomplishments while lauding and making excuses for Rendon. Everything about you is complete ass backwards thinking and now you trying to play it off as your butt hurt and anger is justified bc of some supposed locker room cleanup. I’ll take the 6 prime years he gave us, ROY, 2 MVPs and 15-4 2.33 era 172 era+ with 34 bombs 95 rbis in his non MVP year and be grateful for witnessing something that hasn’t been done since Ruth. As if all your dumb adjectives putting him down weren’t enough you then have to say this 60 win team is more fun than any team last 3 years as an implicit way of saying you hate Ohtani bc he was main guy of last 3 years. What a bitter old man
Well, that was a very …… Angel-ly game.
So this is just my take. It’s probably harsh and probably a pre mature judgement but…. As much as I like this young budding core I just don’t see them as ever being winners. They never preform together. Zero cohesion. It’s great if Neto goes 3-4 but useless if everybody else sucks that night. The next night Neto is 0-4 but o’hoppe rocks. On and on. Individually their numbers look promising but when you watch the games every night it actually really sucks. Maybe I’m way off here but they never feed off each other like just about every other team seems to be able to do to us.
It’s like we need a Mike Trout kind of player to ignite this team.
Wait. We have Mike Trout.
But he’s an asshole cancer that’s always hurt while he collects a huge sum of money and loves his family more than baseball. I haven’t seen him get frustrated and throw a tantrum like a real grown man one time. What a dick. We should cut his ass. trAdition right?
Trade him!
Although obviously a sarcastic comment, there are some truths in there as well.
We need these kids to be super consistent kids who play like veterans damn it! I think it would probably help if we had a manager with tons of grit. Maybe the type of guy who gets in verbal fights with players I don’t like. Yeah. Washington’s face never gets all pink and pissed off and that’s lame. I think it might help if they instituted a policy where they shoot the injured players and only players who get a hit that day are allowed to eat. That’ll feed the fire baby. Yeah…..
I don’t know. I just hate it when my team doesn’t have all the good players. Who do I get mad at about that?
I’ll buy CtPG a suite if Wash’s face gets all pink
You could say the same thing about months instead of games. Honestly it’s because most of their average performances aren’t very good. Players that we are hoping will be good wouldn’t even be playing on teams like Baltimore or Kansas City. We keep hoping they will be better than they really are. We need some better players who are good almost every night to mix in. A healthy Trout would help but we need at least 2 more really good players in addition to Trout to be competitive. Right now, we don’t have a 2B a 3B or a DH and we have a 1B and RF that both hit like marginal middle IFs.
We can still end up with a better record than last year. Gotta go 14-1 or 15-0
Why’d they pull Suarez? The guy was dealin!
hahahahahah
CryLaughCryLaugh push detonator…..
