LA Angels Wednesday News Crash: Happy Birthday!

Morning Angels fans. Have some links!

Angels News

Happy Birthday Mark Gubiza! Let’s celebrate something this year! Too bad this team hasn’t had a winning record in a very long time.

The Angels cannot seem to beat the Blue Jays, a team that is much worse than the NY ones that they played earlier this month. Yep, this team makes no sense.

What the Angels are doing is making tiny moves. Like claiming Nick Robertson and Brock Burke off of Waivers.

And DFA-ing Garreett and Kolarek. And rearranging the minors a bit.

Speaking of, the Angels 1st round pick has been killing it at AA. Will he be up this weekend? Maybe.

I mean, he isn’t even the Angels top prospect according to MLB. But what do they know, they have Moore’s ETA as next year. Silly MLB.

Around Baseball

Brewers owner accused of stealing beach sand. That’s messed up man.

Do you like Jazz? Too bad, he is injured. UCL.

River Ryan of the Dodgers needs TJ surgery. That is how many Dodgers pitcher now? Should have traded for Tyler Anderson.

James Paxton tore his calf. Even former Dodgers pitchers are hurting themselves.

In other news, human umps still suck. GIB ME ROBO UMPS.

Rod Carew, the former Twin and Angel is finally a US Citizen. Wait, seriously? Oh wow.

Anything I missed? Post below for upvotes!

Just saw we have a <0.1% chance of making the playoffs. (Sooo yer sayin’ ders a chance?)

This is math, but my intuition told me this around April 27th.

For the life of me I can’t figure it out. Buehler, Miller, May, Paxton, Ryan and the rest…. how has Arte managed to influence the Doyer’s training staff so heavily? How did he convince Freidman to cut corners on development, training and medical so that these guys keep getting hurt? How did the evil seep UP HILL to The Latrine? How?

He is fantasy saga evil I tell ya.

Maybe he hired a coven to put a curse on Ohtani, so injuries will follow wherever he goes.

Nah, never mind, curses are too expensive.

Molly Jolly is a Wiccan. She used a live chicken and some earth from the hills of Chavez Ravine to put a curse on Dustin May…… made his esophagus tear.

I agree with bringing Christian Moore into Ron Washington’s hands ASAP as he learns nothing in our development -free minor league environment. Who cares if he struggles a bit if he’s promoted.

That’s a much sexier Top 30 list than it was 12 months ago. Kochanowicz got a big demotion, though I have better feelings about him now than I did pre-season. They also keep ranking Lavarde as a better catching prospect than Flores… but it seems like Flores sits higher in the org hierarchy.

It’s the sexiest list ever…..for a farm system ranked #30 out of 30 teams.

As soon as a few of our prospects make good they will rank our farm higher for some reason…. it’s magic.

I honestly think there are 3 ranks of farm. The top, middle, and bottom thirds of the MLB. The bottom 10 teams are basically the same, but “fella” needs to write stuff and rank shit. Honestly, the difference between a top 10 and bottom 10 system is generally small/random… unless you’re the Rays.

I’ve just done cursory looks at rankings from 5 years ago. Here’s a fun one. The Yankees had a top 5 system with “greats” like Gleyber Torres, Chance Williams, Estevan Florial and Justus Sheffield leading the way to “the future”.

The Pirates had a bottom 10 system. With Clay Holmes, Luis Ortiz, Hunter Stratton, Jared Jones, Mitch Keller, Oniel Cruz, Austin Meadows, Bryan Reynolds, KeBryan Hayes, Shane Baz, Colin Moran

The Rangers were a bit lower and had…. Willie Clahoun and that’s it…..

It’s not like that Pirates list is all huge names. The point is that they generated a lot more MLB traction than a #22-25 farm expected in 2018.

If we have “the worsiest” farm for 2023-26 but we produce 10 players that have careers…. fine.

The so-called experts definitely do not waste a lot of time on the perceived bottom feeders in their rankings. They become very lazy and it’s understandable, the Angels have been horrible forever. They spend their time wetting their panties on the perceived elite farm systems, that’s more fun’ner. If and when the angels get to move up and sit at the cool kids table, they will get their street cred. It will take a while, and will need to see more success combined with winning.

The NFL does the same thing with their draft. The teams that routinely draft well always get a high grade. They drool over the pics and they’re lazy on the bottom feeders. They do this with their preseason prediction for win totals for each team too.

Only the elite talent evaluators/media in any sport really know their leagues top to bottom, best to worsts. Most just glob onto the same talking points and spew them.

..and that’s why expansion is a bad thing, we’d fall below 30th place….

Bookkeeper and its derivatives appear to be the only ones you would find in a dictionary. Flood door, sheep poop, and sweet tooth could just as easily be compound words as bookkeeper, but for some reason, they aren’t.

There are other words that have been published in texts, like buffoonness and racoonness, but aren’t actually in the dictionary.
