Victorious Postgame

The Angels won the Mets series, but they didn’t sweep them. I say they should just go ahead and take the Yankees. It will kind of remind me of the 2002 AL division series. I found an Anderson image, but I was to GA to find a Tyler Anderson image.

We barely got this one in the books despite the rain.

Nolan Schanuel homered to lead off the game. 1-0 Angels.

The Yankees answered with a run in the bottom of the second inning. 1-1 tie. Michael Stefanic hit a ground rule double in the top of the third inning and Nolan Schanuel singled him in to reclaim the lead. 2-1 Angels.

As you can see, it was a little bit rainy at times in the game. In the top of the fifth inning, Michael Stefanic singled with one out. Nolan Schanuel lined out but Zach Neto doubled to left and then Logan O’Hoppe walked to load ’em up. Kevin Pillar singled to drive in two. 4-1 Angels.

The Yankees replaced Nestor Cortes with Enyel De Los Santos. Anthony Rendon walked. Jo Adell doubled to make it 7-1 Angels.

Brandon Drury got hit by a pitch. Mickey Moniak singled on a liner to right and made it 8-1 Angels.

Moniak was out trying to take second base on the throw to home. Jazz Chisholm Jr. lined out to first. DJ LeMahieu flied out to center. Alex Verdugo walked. Gleyber Torres struck out.

In the top of the eighth inning, Mickey Moniak singled to lead things off. Michael Stefanic grounded out to send Moniak to second. Nolan Schanuel singled to advance Moniak to third. Then Zach Neto singled to score Moniak. 9-1 Angels.

The Yankees scored two in the bottom of the eighth to make it 9-3. After the Angels failed to score in the ninth inning, Oswaldo Cabrera homered off of a Ben Joyce fastball. 9-4 Angels. Joyce got a couple of Yankees out but then gave up a walk to Alex Verdugo. Gleyber Torres struck out. The Angels won 9-4!

But the most interesting match up of the night was in Pasco Washington ( not sure where the hell that is) Where the Dust Devils took on the Spokane Indians ( which are a Rockies affliated team ???) The game is still going on but it featured TJS survivor Ryan Costieu hurling 5 2 hit 1 run 5 K innings ( hes still on a pitch count limit) The Indians featured the Rockies Star draft Monster Charlie Condon who homered the night before. Tonight he walked once but Costieu and the Dusty bullpen struck him out 3 times. So take that Draft Pundits.

Hit, hits, and still more hits.

Schanny, Neto, Adell, Moniak and the Plummer all contributed.

Side note: I wonder if Logan is starting to wear down a bit. Thaiss is a decent enough back up.

Agree. How about getting Thaiss a few more starts every week. Logan DH once a week, twice when needed. Keep him fresh. At least latter in the year.

Adell has not only entrenched himself as part of the Younger Crew……he’s proving his bat is pretty F’ing clutch when he makes his contributions. I’ll predict he’s closer to .250 most of 2025. He still has a good chance to lead them in RBI, HR’s and Steals in 2024.
Not his fault he’s older and brought up too early, and didn’t have Wash around to get him on the right path for success.

JehYEEEEEZZZ! Free de Jo! I think this full season Wash gave him will have smoothed out a lot of his mental issues. He’s never gonna be Frank Robinson, but yes, he can probably hit .240 with 30 HR/SB. I’ll take that.

I kind of think he could be Jorge Soler but with a Gold glove.

Young position core is definitely worth getting excited about:

Unfortunately there is zero hope on the pitching side.

Drury should not have another AB as an Angel.

Rendon as well… I was a big advocate he would show some pride this year and at least be average but boy was I wrong. He clearly doesn’t give a shit at all. His jersey should just read “I’m rich bitch!”

Soriano and Joyce are worth getting excited about, but I agree that there isn’t much beyond them at the major league level. Some of the minor league players bear watching.

They both are for sure great pieces. I meant more as a whole staff. Yes the only hope is a small group all put it together in the minors and carry it over to the big club but You know they will hype up canning and suck again as an answer. He pitches a lot of great innings but shits his pants 1 inning EVERY SINGLE TIME. They will just keep filling the staff with “Cannings” and will be sub .500 every year for it.

Probably why the club wasn’t eager to move Tyler Anderson simply for the sake of moving him. I mean, we need someone to pitch apart from Soriano

Here’s a list of potential Free Agent Starting Pitchers for this off season. I’m not sure we will sign any positional free agents next year but we definitely need to find at least 2 off of this list that wont blow out their arm in the first week of spring training:

Chase Anderson (37)
Shane Bieber (30)
Walker Buehler (30)
Corbin Burnes (30)
Carlos Carrasco (38)
Mike Clevinger (34)
Alex Cobb (37)*
Gerrit Cole (34)* – can opt out of remaining four years and $144MM, though Yankees can void by adding a $36MM salary for 2029
Patrick Corbin (35)*
Zach Davies (32)
Anthony DeSclafani (35)
Nathan Eovaldi (35)* – $20MM player option with 156 IP or top-5 Cy Young finish in 2024 (or top-7 finish and All-Star appearance)
Jack Flaherty (29)*

Max Fried (31)
Domingo German (32)
Kyle Gibson (37) – $12MM club option with a $1MM buyout
Lucas Giolito (30) – can opt out of remaining one year, $19MM. If he does not opt out, Red Sox have $14MM club option with fewer than 140 innings pitched, or there’s a mutual option worth $19MM with 140+ IP. Both options include a $1.5MM buyout
Marco Gonzales (33) – $15MM club option (no buyout)
Andrew Heaney (34)
Kyle Hendricks (35)
Brad Keller (29)
Merrill Kelly (36) – $7MM club option with a $1MM buyout

Would Arte even splurge on 1 let alone 2?

One thing that has legitimately changed after this year, I think guys will want to come play with these kids and play for Wash. Pitchers seem willing to take a high priced one year deal. Give me Burns with an expensive 1 year deal. He might be willing to do it again.

Depends on what Arte would consider a splurge. Unless its Gerrit Cole, he won’t pay $40 million a year for pitcher, but he might go $40 million for two pitchers.

This is the way. And if the team wasn’t quite ready we trade the expiring contact for more prospects. Such a smart play.

I also like Burns (or other high level guys) on one year deals. Even if the price point paying year-to-year might be slightly elevated. It’s preferable to getting saddled with another albatross of a contract.

Wait, do you guys mean Burnes? Like “I am either the #1 or #2 FA on the market. All-Star Starter. Cy Young winner, maybe again. Possible WS winner” Corbin Burnes? He may take a high value 1 year deal? When have we seen THAT?

Will our new owner, Korean billionaire Chan Un Icorn being pulling this capper off? Will he be holding Burnes family hostage to do it?

I’ve already said that I’d go after Kikuchi and/or Severino, but despite his won-loss record, Heaney has pitched pretty well in a park that has traditionally favored hitters. I wouldn’t be opposed to him being a second or third pitcher brought in for next season.

I think the halos would be a good landing spot for guys who NEED a 1 year deal to build their value again. They would also be good trade bait at the dealine. Anyone who is looking for a multi year deal will pass until our youth and core is ready for the big time.

So you are looking for bounce back canidates or guys coming off injury and trying to get reps to proove they are a good healthy pitcher again:

My only “splurge” might be Max Fried. Perry would know him from the Braves days.

Bieber (late Sept is my guess to be ready)
Walker Buehler- depending on how he ends this season

Yah. Beiber, Buehler, Montas, Severino, Turnbull…. throw a little money at em for prove it deals. Maybe deal em if they’re good but the team’s bad.

That list is massive and full of solid rotation guys that could eat innings and not ruin games.

TapatioMan

From that list I’d be interested in:
Shane Bieber
Walker Buehler
Corbin Burnes
Alex Cobb (meh)
Nathan Eovaldi
Jack Flaherty
Max Fried
Yusei Kikuchi
Sean Manaea
Frankie Montas
Nick Pivetta
Luis Severino
Blake Snell
Luke Weaver

Some decent options there, honestly. Luke Weaver is in the bullpen now, but maybe he’s discovered something that’ll allow him to find success back in the rotation. If not, back to the bullpen. For 2.5M, the Yankees probably hold onto him.

I’d rather not sign guys with a QO attached, but if they’re “worth it” like a Burnes or Bieber, etc., I would be okay with that. If we don’t shop in the pricey aisles, we need to scoop up someone like a Montas, Kikuchi, Buehler. Those type of guys always get traded at the deadline to playoff contenders.

51-64 is a whole lot better than I thought we’d be.

From 21-38 we’re 30-26. I honestly expected we’d be something like 40-75 at this point. Thus must be 11 of the 15 Wash WAR I heard about
