LA Angels Tuesday News Crash: Jackie’s Back

A rebuilt Jackie Robinson statue will be installed at McAdams Park in Witchita, Kansas a little over six months after the original was cut off at the ankles by an admitted fentanyl addict who has just pleaded guilty. The original cleats that were left behind are now in the Negro Leagues Baseball Museum in Kansas City, Missouri. This is the nastiest 75 MPH pitch I ever saw. It just plain made a lane change without signaling.

What do you think? Is Reid Detmers going to be back in the majors soon? Barry Enright says he believes so. Speaking of Barry Enright, Griffin Canning says he worked out some changes to his delivery together with the pitching coaches that result in him hiding the ball a little better. I didn’t really mention the call up of Charles Leblanc yesterday. What does everybody think of him so far?

The Dodgers DFAd Cavan Biggio.

The White Sox are making history, but not in a good way.

Behold, The Munchie Mitt! I wonder if one of the pockets can hold that death taco from Kansas City. (Probably not.)

Also Apparently one our newest star acquisitions, Matthew Lugo, is made out of RenGlass.

After his impressive halo debut last Friday ( 2 for 5 1 2B 1 HR for SL) he has gone MIA missing 3 straight games. In case there are any sightings please call 1-800- TRA-DiTiON

Well that didnt take long . Apparently Sunday’s rain out also washed away Christian Moore’s ability to hit the ball. So far He went 0 to hat trick tonight with 3 straight strikeouts tonight to mark his professional career.

Apparently The sheer magnitude of TrAdition caught up with him as he has underestimated its power. lets hope he can recover.

Who’ up next?

Two off days messed up his swing…..he’ll get it back in a few months. Probably will have Wards disease. That’s where he has 2.5 weeks on fire, 2.5 months ice cold……trAdition.

Angels: Ryan Costeiu, RHP (No. 12)
In his first season back from Tommy John surgery, the Angels have understandably proceeded cautiously with Costeiu. He’s thrown a grand total of 44 innings to date, but he’s been effective. He gave up just four runs over 16 IP this past month (2.25 ERA) with a 1.25 WHIP and 20 K’s. For the year, he has a 2.66 ERA, .189 BAA and a 1.20 WHIP. There’s work to be done on the command, but he’s racking up a strikeout per inning.

Angels’ Luis Rengifo to miss rest of season after wrist surgery
Rengifo first hurt his wrist on July 3, sat out three weeks and then tried to come back, aggravating the injury twice. The Angels also announced that right-hander Chase Silseth had season-ending elbow surgery. Both players are expected to be back by spring training.

I think Arte is forcing them to play hurt. Very much like the way they abuse and train animals at Ringling Brothers and Barnum Bailey Circus. He doesn’t force Trout and Rendon because he likes them and collects insurance money on them. 🙃

Baseball trailblazer Billy Bean dies at 60

Today, Major League Baseball remembers the life of Billy Bean, MLB’s Senior Vice President for Diversity, Equity & Inclusion and Special Assistant to the Commissioner. Following a heroic, yearlong fight with Acute Myeloid Leukemia, Billy passed away at home.

Plus over that same span:

Mickey Moniak .268/.315/.457

But if the rest of the starting pitching sucks and you have no second baseman or third baseman and no consistent corner outfielders just above.500 is about what to expect.

Embarrassing. The draft alone will not interject the talent depth absolutely needed by the franchise. If the team stays the course with the current approach, Neto and O’Hoppe will reach free agency before the surrounding cast is in place…which is what happened with Ohtani. The missed opportunity by not trading Ohtani and others set the franchise back at least 5 years.

Stupid Arte. Idiot Perry. Naive fans.

Yep. Angels (i.e. Arte) really missed a chance in inject a simultaneous wave of talent into the farm system by not trading Ward, Anderson, or Rengifo.

I get Rengifo’s market might have been depressed by his injury so I’ll give them a pass for that.

“The teams that decided to sell were rewarded,” an AL exec said. “I was surprised by some big-market teams with bad records that bought or held.”

To the latter point, the Angels were mentioned by multiple executives as a team that could have benefited more from the seller’s market with players such as Tyler Anderson, Taylor Ward and Luis Rengifo, all of whom are slated to become free agents at the end of 2025.

“I get the teams that made moves and why they made them, but I was more interested in the teams that didn’t do much,” an AL exec said. “If you’re the Tigers or Giants, you can squint and see a path to contention over the next couple years because they have good resources and some good young players. The Angels? I would love to hear what they see as their path forward.”

Here’s who MLB execs think won the Trade Deadline

Some discussion on Caden Dana and why he might not be rated among the top SP prospects just yet:

https://x.com/lancebroz/status/1820860309361541284?s=46&t=aBK1MPhSIvfd0DTl6snnFw

I’ve only seen highlights of Dana. His fastball looks to be 93-94, so not overpowering. Didn’t see crazy movement on it. Not too familiar with his offspeed or breaking stuff. He’s only 20 though and finding success in AA. That has to count for something, right?

Edit: some statcast data on Dana’s futures game appearance

i reported this last month but it just looked like expanded baseball facilities.

when i hear ‘laboratories’, the first thing that comes to mind is that’s where they’ll be developing new formulations of buttercup

Speaking of advanced enhancements and theoretical physics during the Spring in Tempe, that one February about:
Always throwing strikes on the FIRST pitch! – that was a brilliant output .
So how is that going? Does the theory work?

Just testing my understanding here. You are actually conflating the vandalism of Jackie Robinson’s statue – the act and the statue itself an illustration of modern racism – with the removal of statues that celebrated men who committed treason and fought to continue enslaving and torturing other human beings (our society’s Original Sin)?

This, in spite of the history that those statues were originally created to literally “whitewash” said history.

How in the heck does a team lose 21 games in a row? Hard to believe in such incompetence by any franchise. How can owners talk of expansion when teams in the SoCal and Chitown markets are so pathetic? And the Bay Area Market is such a mess too. Add in that there is not enough pitching to go around and expansion talk is really about ownership greed, plain and simple.

Time to step out on the limb and make some long-term deals for O’Hoppe and Neto some they stick with the team as they become stars. Catchers and Shortstops are almost impossible to find, especially great fielding SS like Neto. imho

angelslogic

I assume you mean to compliment a roster which includes Neto and O’Hoppe. “Long term deals for O’Hoppe and Neto” sounds as if you want to deal them to another team

If so, I would add Schanuel to the mix..

Long term deals mean exactly what I posted. How does that become interpreted as a trade? Not many players want to really become Angels, especially good ones like Neto and O’Hoppe, so sign them up to 7-year deals for what may later be for a lot more money kept them in the fold. You’re smarter than that to see signing up as a trade, come on now. Stick with the team? really?

angelslogic

As it turns out, I made the unclear comment. I said to add Schanuel to the list. I made it sound as if I wanted to trade him. That couldn’t be farther from the truth.
