The Angels were riding a 3 game winning streak and facing the actually in competition Tigers. Said Tigers were throwing out their 2nd best pitcher while the Angels were having Davis Daniel make his first ever MLB start in only his 4th ever appearance. Maybe CY Rookie will be on our side for once? Not that a 7th round pick in 2019 would be a ROY contender, not on this team. But, hey, maybe, for one night, he can act like it?
So how did he do? He went 8 innings, giving up NO runs on 4 hits, striking out 8 and walking NONE. And this was the Angels 26th best “prospect” in a farm system that has been ridiculed as being weak and pathetic. Well, well, well…

So of course he goes out in the 8th! 5-0 lead, first MLB start, why not? Well, not only did he get through the 8th easily, but at 99 pitches. An inning short of a Maddux, but the first time an Angels pitcher has gone 8 shutout innings in his first MLB start SINCE 1969!
Joyce pitched the 9th, and the Angels won.

The Angels face the Tigers for 3 more games, and then take Canada Day off. So celebrate Canada Day without Angels baseball, and pay attention to your Canadian friend on the first. They will likely need some cheering up, especially if they liked the Oilers.
I missed the game yesterday, but it is nice to see a great all-around game played by the Angels.

FYI with an off day on Monday, the Angels don’t need a 5th starter ( Sorry Roansy) until next Saturday July 6th in Chicago. Soriano and his mystery ailment is eligible to come off the IL on July 2nd so he could be activated for that next start date if hes back.
I don’t even think Soriano and a stomach bug, it was just to rest him to prevent injury with this being his his first year starting.
Daniel went into the Tigers den and kicked ass tonight.

You have a guy who was pitching well with a good lead, not in duress, likely will never be in the position again to gain a shutout and he gets pulled… just because the pitch count manual says so.
