Not only did the the Halos win back to back games at home for just the second time this year, they have a chance for A 3 game sweep against the A’s.
Before I start the re-cap of the game there’s one player on the Angels who I think deserves a shoutout, I’m not sure how all Angel’s fans feel about him, but from the games I’ve watched he always catches my eye. As a catcher myself every time I watch an Angels game Logan O’Hoppe always surprises me on why he’s not talked about more. His offensive value is well above average I’d say, with his WRC+ at 119 that brings him in 19% over the league average. He came into the night hitting .269 on the year with 10 HRs which is also pretty solid. I know his defensive stats could be better but just the way he plays the game and his presence behind the plate really stands out. His blocking looks very clean and is always relaxed. Just tonight I saw him steal between 7-10 pitches on the outside corner and later in the game he stole some on the inside part of the plate. From all the catchers I’ve seen Besides Tomas Nido of the Mets and J.T Realmuto of the Phillies in my personal opinion Logan O’Hoppes framing is top 5 and just really clean and he needs to be be talked about more all around.
Now for Tyler Anderson’s performance, he didn’t have his best stuff tonight but he still had a decent start and a W. His final stat line 5IP,3ER, on 5 hits, 5BB and 2Ks. He obviously struggled with walks in his outing tonight and that’s where he gave up his runs. He had 12 swing and misses on the night, so when he was throwing strikes he was getting outs. He just fell into some trouble with his walks.
Talk about offense, from both teams. The Angels put up 7 runs which is the run support they needed because the A’s put up 5. Angels had 9 hits to Oaklands 8. The A’s broke open the scoring in the 3rd inning scoring 2. The Halos took an inning to charge up because they exploded for 5 runs in the bottom of the 4th including Mickey Moniak’s first career GRAND SALAMI.
The Angels continued scoring in the 6th and the 7th. In the 6th Jo Adel hit a screaming double to extend the Halos lead to 6-2.
The Angels weren’t done here, Taylor ward added yet another run in the bottom of the 7th with his 12th HR of the year.
The Halos got into some trouble in the 8th, allowing the A’s to score 2 but eventually got out of it and recorded just their second home series win of the year.
Angels win 7-5
So, I saw Grouse pitching. I didn’t know selecting a pitcher from the California Penal League was an actually a thing. Was he selected from Pelican Bay or Folsom?
“You take the good, you take the bad…..the facts of life”
Hey, two in a row, nice game last night.
Go Halos!
This is a nice write up, Nolan.
AL West Standings fact. Tonight with the Angels win and Mβs loss, the Angels are 10.5 games out of 1st place. With over 3 months remaining in the 2024 season.
Enjoy your Shufflebot eve. π§Ήπ§Ήπ§Ήπ€π€π€π€
I’m interested in seeing what we do with the 13 game stretch. 2-0 so far!
Angels seem to do better vs West Teams than any other divisions
Not GREAT, mind you, just better.
I show 14-11 against the West and 18-35 against everyone else.
LTBU!!!
