For all 2-5 of my avid readers, the Angels announce that Zach Plesac will be the starter tomorrow. Sorry for the paucity of highlights tonight but nobody did jack for at least half of the game.
Tonight we got Patrick Sandoval. The Dodgers countered by bringing up The Knack (for the touch of the younger kind). Sorry. I couldn’t resist.
Inning 1:
Nolan Schanuel grounded out to first. Luis Rengifo hit a potential homer which led to a crew chief review and a ruling that it was a foul ball. He did eventually single on a liner to center. Taylor Ward struck out while Rengifo seemingly stole second. The Umps sent Rengifo back to first on the grounds that Taylor Ward interfered with the Catcher’s throw. He then stole second anyway while Willie Calhoun was batting. Rengifo also stole third, but Willie Calhoun struck out to render it all pointless.
Shohei Ohtani walked. That called ball four was a strike to everyone but the ump. Teoscar Hernandez hit into a fielder’s choice. Freddy Freeman hit into a line drive double play started by Zach Neto.
Inning 2:
Logan O’Hoppe grounded out to third. Zach Neto flied out to left. Mickey Moniak popped out to Freddie Freeman. That was quick. Andy Pages struck out swinging. Miguel Rojas popped out to Schanuel. Miguel Vargas, on the other hand, singled on the ground through to left field. Vargas made it to second base on a wild pitch while Enrique Hernandez was batting. Hernandez grounded out to Zach Neto.
Inning 3:
Michael Stefanic lined out to right while Jo Adell popped out to short. Nolan Schanuel walked but Luis Rengifo hit a chopper to second for the third out. We are in the bottom of the Dodgers order, so I am guessing the debacle will start in the fourth inning tonight. Chris Taylor did single to left. Austin Barnes grounded out to first while Taylor made it to second. Shohei Ohtani walked. Patrick Sandoval sustained an arm related injury and came out of the game. Sarcasto-Great! He was replaced by Hunter Strickland. Teoscar Hernandez struck out swinging and Freddie Freeman grounded out to second.
Inning 4:
Hey hey! Taylor Ward drew a walk to lead off the fourth inning. Willie Calhoun flied out center field and Logan O’Hoppe grounded into a force out. Zach Neto unfortunately grounded out to third. Whod’a thunk we would be in a pitcher’s duel with the Dodgers on June 21, 2024? Whod’a is a word, right? Andy Pages flied out to center. Miguel Rojas struck out looking. Miguel Vargas flied out to center. Strickland was mowing them down so far.
Inning 5:
Mickey Moniak flied out to center field. Michael Stefanic lined out to right. Come on guys! Somebody needs to score if you intend to win the game. Jo Adell singled. Nolan Schanuel lined out to center. 0-0 tie going into the bottom of the fifth. Matt Moore came in to replace Hunter Strickland. Enrique Hernandez flied out to right and Chris Taylor popped out to first. Austin Barnes singled on a liner to left. Shohei Ohtani homered to make it 2-0 Dodgers. Teoscar Hernandez lined out to left to end the inning.
Inning 6:
The Dodgers made a pitching change and Luis Rengifo was promptly hit by a pitch. Taylor Ward singled on a liner to right. Kevin Pillar pinch hit for Willie Calhoun. He struck out swinging. Logan O’Hoppe also got hit by a pitch. Ryan Yarborough either sucks or he is an asshole. Zach Neto was also hit by a pitch to score Luis Rengifo.
I guess the correct answer is “At least he sucks.” 2-1 Dodgers. Mickey Moniak grounded out to second base. Taylor Ward scored to make it a 2-2 tie.
Michael Stefanic struck out.
Ben Joyce came in to pitch. He mowed ’em down. Freddie Freeman grounded out. Andy Pages struck out. Miguel Rojas grounded out. Come back when you non-Shohei guys can hit.
Inning 7:
Jo Adell flied out to right. Nolan Schanuel grounded out to first. Luis Rengifo grounded out to third base. Jason Heyward popped out to third. Enrique Hernandez lined out to center. Gavin Lux pinch hit but achieved only a strikeout.
Inning 8:
The Dodgers brought in the new guy to hit Angels batters, Yohan Ramirez. Taylor Ward reached on a “hit by pitch.” Kevin Pillar and Logan O’Hoppe both struck out. At this point should we plunk one of those guys? Luis Garcia is in to pitch. Austin Barnes flied out to right. Shohei Ohtani got a hit on an infield shot deflected by Garcia. Teoscar Hernandez struck out looking. Shohei Ohtani got caught stealing second. O’Hoppe!
Inning #9
Mickey Moniak struck out looking. Michael Stefanic lined out to center and Jo Adell grounded out to the pitcher. Freddie Freeman grounded out to Stefanic. Andy Pages grounded out to Rengifo. Miguel Rojas grounded out to the pitcher. On to extra innings!
Inning 10:
Jo Adell started things out at second base. Nolan Schanuel was out on a sacrifice bunt that got Adell over to third. Luis Rengifo grounded out. Taylor Ward came up with two outs and a man on third. The strike two called on him was BS. He singled on the ground to left.
It was 3-2 Angels. He stole second. Kevin Pillar flied out to Gavin Lux at second.
Carlos Estevez came in to pitch and the Dodgers put Miguel Rojas at second except they didn’t. Cavan Biggio pinch ran for Rojas. Heyward, Hernandez, and Lux made quick outs to secure the Angels win! I hope Sandoval is OK.

So of the top 13 trade candidates, guess which team has 5 of them ?
https://www.mlb.com/news/top-trade-candidates-and-fits-2024
Dont F this up Perry.
Interestingly none of our players are suggested for the Dodgers.
Betting Rengifo will remain an Angel.

“elbow strain”. Do we believe that?
Sandy to the IL, Zuniga up
No, the way that he grimaced in obvious pain makes me think that it is what we all think it is.
Of course I do. it certainly wasn’t his big toe that was hurting him.
But The Angels are now carrying 3 starting pitchers and 10 relievers. Zuniga has gotten lit up big time in the SL ( a 10.13 ERA and a 2.5 WHIP in his last 7 games) so this is a curious move. With the exception of Davis Daniel, Bachman, Mederos or Kochanowicz, (all of which are probably not ideal choices at this time) any other starting pitching candidate for next Wednesday and Friday will have to be added to the 40 man roster including Silseth. So the Angels probably have until next Wednesday to reveal the severity of Sandy’s injury and put him on the 60 day IL.
The article says he may need to undergo TJ surgery. We all know that means he WILL need the surgery.
Is it just me, or does that Knack singer look like a really psychotic cross between Chevy Chase and Pete Townsend?
Good comps but aren’t Chevy Chase and Peter Already somewhat psychotic?
And Paul Simon from the “You Can Call Me Al” video with Chevy Chase.
Wait, why is this a 2 game series? I don’t ever recall a Sunday off.
We’re forced to play 4 vs them, regional interleague rivalry
If the choice is between all four at once and two by two, I’ll take the latter. The Dodgers are easier in small doses.
Yes, I believe that we used to play two in LA and then two in Anaheim back to back.
That was such a delicious win.
The only thing that could have made it more delicious, is if some of the doyers wept.

Lets take the mini-sweep tonight !!!
So when do we get confirmation of Sandy’s TJS?
Of course it was on a pitch against that guy.
After we are told he will be fine.
I thought It was just dehydration.
Hey a solid win against a great team and despite Ohtani going yard.
Side note – Betts being out increased the Angels’ chances a lot.
As much as Trout being out helped theirs?
Mmmm I think Betts is a way bigger loss at the current stage of their careers
Thats true there’s no way a healthy Trout could have out performed Moniak or Adell in the line up last night.
Trout was leading the Majors in HRs when got hurt but your opinion is excellent.
Even though Trout was perhaps not performing at the desired level prior to bing injured, when he went out, he was still at a OPS+ of 140 which is 20 points higher than our best current hitter, 40% above the league average, and way better than Adel and Moniak.
While Trout Rendon & Drury being out decreased the Angel’s chances Alot.
So Whats your point?
The point is that “injuries hurt the team and therefore they’re not at full strength and may cause them to lose some games,” applies to all other teams except the Angels.
There’s no way you aren’t trolling lol.
First game against Shohei in blue was a big win and you have to throw cold water on it 😂.
If I remember correctly, Yaborough is the asshole that almost got into a fight with Neto last year. Neto gave him a look because it was his second AB in a row to get hit by a pitch and apparently the dipshit didn’t take kindly to a rookie giving him a stare down. I think he yelled something at him as he took first base and Neto shrugged him off because he’s awesome.
I’ve had a child since then though so I may be making this all up.
So proud of the loveable losers tonight. Beat the god squad at home, even with ‘Easy Way’ having a big night. I’m sure he really wanted the first win in series against ex-team. Closet Dodger supporters on this site please stay in yur closet at least tonight. D nation, no more cocky comments about how Easy is going to sweep his old team.
The doyers have lot of injuries, but they ain’t so tough. They better start printing more of that cash, buy some more players, and start double-dosing that juice.
Easy Ohtani is probably on the phone with Cubs Imanaga , begging him to demand a trade to Dodgers. Gotta pad the team even more to guarantee the World Series.
You might only have 2-5 dedicated followers but we appreciate it more than the usual sports fan. Thank you!!
I was wondering how he settled on 2-5. Not 2-3, or 4-5, but 2-5.
Just messing around. Love you guys!
2 would be actual members and possibly 3 more in guests.
I’m going to have fun texting all my Doyer friends.
Look familiar Shohei? Your production the only runs in a losing effort. 😀
Ohtani went 2-2 with a 2 run home run and 2 walks and the Dodgers lose 3-2 in extras
I love this GIF. Very appropriate tonight.
LTBU!!!
