Good morning Angels fans. Have some links.
Angels News
The Angels lost yesterday. Not unexpected. But a bummer. They can win tomorrow though to get a series win.
Rengifo is back. He went 1-4 with a single and a walk.
Mike Trout is still hurt and not progressing much at all. He cannot even run yet without pain.
For Friday and Saturday, things will get hectic. Why? It is that time again for the Freeway series. Going up the 5 to visit Dodger Stadium. They will be without Betts and Yoshi, so this might be possible to win. Of course, the whole Ohtani stuff will be all over the news and get the most attention, which… yeah, I get it.
Around Baseball
Willie Mays has passed away. The all time great was 93. It was peacefully at least. His final message was released on Monday.
We are getting closer to Cyborg Umps. The Challenge system is coming to AAA. It isn’t robo umps, but players will be able to challenge the umps a limited amount of times.
But what about MLB? Well, for now, this is the list of reviewable plays.
Should the Trade Deadline be pushed back? Paul Sewald thinks so. Considering how wide open the playoff landscape might be with how few actually good teams there are this year, plenty may be in No Mans land.
The Mets keep winning thanks to Grimace from Mcdonalds. Seriously.
Dodgers beat Rockies due to a check swing going the Dodgers way. That and the 3 run home run immediately after but sure, blame the check swing.
Injuries keep piling up for teams. Bo Bichette calf strain. Alex Kirilloff has a back issue. Justin “Bushleague” Verlander has a neck problem. And Aaron Judge got hit in the hand. He didn’t break anything like what happened with Betts. Oh and Torres got hit in the hand too. Jeez these pitchers cannot pitch inside.

Anything I missed? Post below for upvotes!
Reid Detmers with another encouraging outing at AAA Salt Lake today 7 innings 6 hits 2 ERs 3 Walks and 5 K’s. He did give up the requisite HR though.
Yesterday Sam Bachman also took another step to get back to Overdrive going 4 innings giving up 4 hits 1 ER 1 Walk and 4 Ks in 58 pitches for the Trash Pandas so let’s hope he continues to improve.
Ward and Neto now have identical OPS+s, which says a lot more about Ward than it does Neto.
BTW-Are the Halos ever going to have a Pog giveaway? I’ve been waiting for a while….
Tonight’s Lineups No Halo yet at 3:55.

Adell with a day off and O’Hoppe starting at DH …
Adell pretty much takes the day off whether he’s playing or not.
Hard to argue with. O’Hoppe is at this moment, our best hitter.
Not in the last week. That Honor would go to Nolan “Wet Noodle” Shanuel who is 11 for his last 24 with 2 Doubles 1 HR 8 Walks and Only 1 Strikeout.
Drury a late scratch. I’m sure it’s fine😀
Probably got to close to Trout last night.
Plumber time?
Guillorme’s name, thrown and stuck to wall.
I still have suspicions that Sano placed a heating pad on Soriano’s abdomen and now it supposed to be infected.
Why do you think this? Why do you keep posting these thoughts?
The heating pad, or Soriano’s abdomen?
That wraps up the Dylan Bundy trade. Bradish with TJS.
There seems to be a little more than the usual TJS but I’m not a doctor. Something about a UCL brace
“Dammit Jim, I’m a doctor not a [Insert needed profession]!”
Dr. McCoy
They tried the “platelet-rich plasma injection” first…. It would be interesting to hear stats on that success rate.
In other injury news. Unsolved mystery, I guess Soriano has the SHITS….Infected with a stomach virus?
June 18: RHP José Soriano no IL stint is expected
Soriano was scratched from his scheduled start on Monday against the Brewers roughly two and a half hours before first pitch due to lower abdominal pain. On Tuesday, Angels manager Ron Washington said Soriano is dealing with an infection. Soriano threw on Tuesday with discomfort, but Washington and the Angels do not believe this will require a stint on the IL.
But, I do not believe them.
Can’t they just give him a bucket to set behind the mound in case of an emergency while he is pitching?
Moniak at .189 and Adell at .187
Who climbs above .200 first? Will either climb above .200?
Those are the imponderable questions. And if they do, will they stay above .200.
Moniak, since he is (barely) on the way up and Adell is on the down elevator.
They are just proving what has been considered their ceilings for a while now.
Luis Rengifo is roughly 30 AB’s short of qualifying but, he’s currently batting .314 – which would put him at #7 in MLB, just behind Shohei Ohtani.
Speaking of Ohtani, his slash line:
.316 / .388 / .608 / .996
20 HR
49 RBI
16-1 SB / CS
Watching MNT fade away in a whimper of injuries & lengthy IR stints is a total bummer.
It’s easy to place blame on Arte, Carpino, Perry, Epler, etc etc …
Unfortunately, none of them are the reason Trout’s health has deteriorated away. Not being able to get 1 full season of peak-Trout and peak-Ohtani together is depressing, utterly depressing.
A classic case of a “what if….” that never materialized.
Can we blame Evil Arte, Crapino and Company for Luis’s recent June Power Swoon? In his last 18 games Geefo’s batting .254 but has only 1 extra base hit ( double) in 72 Plate appearances . Not sure why he cant drive the ball anymore Is Maybe he’s double secret probation injured?
He has Blistered Feet Syndrome. It’s like Celine Dion’s Stiff Person Syndrome, but with blisters on your feet.
Injury trAdition
So why doesn’t RenPeefo just piss on them in the shower like alot of other latin ball players do?
Hey it worked for Mouses Alou. https://brobible.com/sports/article/moises-alou-urinating-on-hands/ Although you would never catch me shaking his hand.
👑 Luis is doing his best to stay in Anaheim past the trade deadline
Interestingly enough, a .254 batting average would the 2nd best on the team after O’Hoppe’s .280
Not only can we blame Arte for Trout’s injuries, Braves, Astros and Reds fans can also blame Arte for all their injury issues. Mookie Betts? Yep, Arte. De Gromme and Scherzur out? Blame brown Hitler. The White Sox entire team? The Padres being short on grit and fire? The Cardinals sucking? El Menace de Mexico himself, evilArte! The A’s. Yup.
He is the throbbing source of radiated evil in baseball. Just ask Shohei’s mom.
Make sure you include Kyle Bradish’s TJS in that blame game as well.
What about Dumb Perry?
I mean, he traded away every future MVP and Cy Young Winner in the system, even though the system sucks and we can’t develop any players because Dumb Perry keeps drafting scrubs ad trading them away.
LMAO @ “Brown Hitler”
ESPN is mocking SoCal HS shortstop Ranier to us No. 8 for the MLB draft next month. That’s fun. Would like to see another elite HS prospect in the system after years of drafting these high-floor college guys. https://www.espn.com/mlb/insider/story/_/id/40378166/2024-mlb-mock-draft-20-kiley-mcdaniel-predicts-first-two-rounds-top-picks
From MLB: “His easily plus arm that fires mid-90s fastballs from the mound (with a good breaking ball) works from all parts of the infield and if for some reason he had to move to third, he could be a Gold Glove caliber defender there.” Same eval notes his elite exit-velocity. Best high schooler in the draft.
Not sure taking a high school kid at #8 is going to be a popular move with the good people at CTPG.
Hehe. Yeah maybe true… but who around here has a truly informed opinion? If your scouting dept. thinks there’s a choice of a future Corey Seagar on the table or a future Alec Bohm, do you take the Bohm just because he’s in college and might realize his Bohm-ness a couple years earlier?
With the current college programs, I think drafting HS players with high draft picks will become much less common. The risk is just too big. Unless you’re really sure.
With what has become an acceleration to get high draft picks on the big boy roster, I agree. I think HS’ers will no less fall way back to the end of the first or later rounds where the better organization (drafting later) will develop at a normal rate, in no rush to bring them up. Those team just supplement their roster with FA’s and trades.
so Perry has been able to scrounge up enough savings from each years 16-17 draftees signing bonuses to go a $ 1 million over slot for a high school pitcher. With all of our draft picks including the added comp pick we may see 2-3 over slot value high school picks (including even a position player) in this years draft
Not at #8?
I would not recommend it. Knowing that these were different regimes Since Mike Trout the list of High school players we took in the first round were:
2010 Kaleb Coward #18
2010 Cam Bedrosian #29
2010 Chevy Clarke #30
2017 Jo Adell #10
2018 Jordyn Adams #17
2019 Will Wilson #15
So that might not be the best strategery for us.
The 2010 Chevy Clarke. AM/FM stereo, power steering, cruise control, automatic transmission.
Clarke Griswold‘s Family Truckster…..good station wagon, bad baseball player.
Might have to check milk cartons for him. There is nothing out there on him playing since about 2018!
No need to find 2010 1st round Comp pick and fellow teammate Ryan Bolden. He ended up shot dead in an Alabama apartment complex after taking a year off from the Angels to rehab an injury
Awww…the Family Truckster
Wilson went to South Carolina
Good catch. He should have stayed in college though.
To be fair I didnt include 1st round comp High School picks :2010 Taylor Lindsay (#37), 2010 Ryan Bolden (#40) even though technically that was still considered the first round back then.
These picks were part of the Eddie Banes big bust draft after hitting it big with high schoolers in 2009.
Not an illustrious group, granted, but… everybody swings and misses on first rounders, especially HS players. Maybe 1 in 6 turns into an impact player? Less after pick 15? And I’m a little weary hearing about how the org is incapable of developing HS talent. Adell was a Top 3 prospect at one point. The Angels didn’t fail him. He might just be a AAAA guy. Marsh was a success. Caden Dana is killing it. Etc.
Brandon Marsh 2nd Round
Caden Dava 11th Round
Logan O’Hoppe 23rd Round
I’m sure there are many outliers ( Like MNT) but The numbers dont seem to warrant taking a high schooler in the first round.
NO! WORST!
That’s probably true and if so might create targets of opportunity… undervalued HS players.
That’s all we need is our own Mickey Moniak.
Screw draft angst. If we aren’t talking about the number 1-3 pick in the draft no one has any idea how it’ll work out. If it is the number 1-3 pick in the draft no one has a clue how it’ll actually work out. If one guy you wanted to draft works out and you think you’re smart you’re forgetting about how impressed you were with Pavin Smith in 2017 amongst dozens of other floppers. Most importantly, you are forgetting you don’t know shit.
Just draft the best guy you can get at the moment and we’ll see what happens. Sure, some guys may seem to be a slightly safer bet (Wake Forest/Arkansas/Tennessee pitchers) but it’s all a craps shoot. I actually follow the draft prospects fairly close and, by the end of round 2 I am lost, if not earlier. Chat board warriors getting all steamy on draft day about guys they didn’t know were alive a few hours earlier is futile piss.
Yes. Even 1-3 is iffy. When CtPG guys start talking about tanking for draft position, it’s like “Yes, bring on Brady Aiken.”
1-3 is less iffy than 8-10 if for no other reason than having a wider selection of potential.
The issue with the Angels remains the ability to evaluate players.
Well more recently they evaluated Neto & O’Hoppe properly.
Why does ESPN keep mocking us?
We mock us! They are just joining the party.
The question is, do we draft developed talent or trust our farm to develop talent.
We don’t develop Farm Boys. We Buttercup them.

Great movie…hilarious.
A remake with a new look and tone for modern audiences is in the works. It’s gonna be great I am sure.
Given our lack of talent/depth, I don’t mind the “safer” high floor college selections.
Do I want a blue chip star? Sure but, we need solid players in bunches and can’t afford draft misses as the top.
I agree. A lot of the really good HS players play in college now anyway unless they are offered a lot of money. Many current college players are not just high floor guys they are also potential blue chip stars and are much less risky. In the 60+ year history of the club, how many HS blue chip stars have we actually ended up with?
Shut Trout down for the year. No need to put more miles on his body in a dead season.
Not a bad idea.
Save what’s left.
I agree, but would not be surprised if Trout won’t allow it.
Should we shut him down for next year too just to be safe ?
I actually had that thought pop into my head since we aren’t going to be any good next year either. But Pineapple is right, he’s probably going to get hurt again anyway. He’s becoming Anthony Rendon.
Yes. He shouldn’t be allowed to play until we are over .500
Kawhi Leonard would like you.
No, but maybe once he’s hurt and we are 15 under .500.
I think we need to really cement Mike’s name in infamy, by contacting Dr. El Attrache, and creating a new knee meniscus replacement surgery that can forever known as Mike Trout surgery. He gets it done, takes another year off to rehab and train, comes back in 2026 as a beast and finishes out his career!
Or ……. maybe not.
Remember Trout has that rare back condition Costovertebral Dysfunction…..
Now, Knee Meniscus Dysfunction.
Exploding Calf Muscle Dysfunction.
Cracking Wrist Dysfunction……..and several others.
Leader in injury Dysfunctions on a most Dysfunctional team…… its called,
Angel Dysfunction.
Free us from Dysfunction!
Free myself from Dysfunction for caring about this team!
Dysfunctional trAdition!!!
Trout models the phrase “it’s better to burnout than fade away”
Nah we need him to bat in front of Alonso and Vladimir Jr.
playoffs 2024! Perry’s last stand- do not go gentle into that good night.
Alonso is a good player, not so sure about Vlad Jr. Although, Vlad is only 25 so it might be worth the risk.
Two players I would never touch, Alonso and Vladdy
Why is that?
We could freeze him and put him next to Ted Williams.
When our young core are ready, defrost him.
🤣 That’s thinking outside the box! But inside the cryogenic chamber!!!’
All that means is a different injury…..10 Day IL for frost bite, then he’s slow to recover, then moved to the 60 Day IL with the likely exception of toe amputations. Out for the year, then come back for the next Spring Training with cleats like the old NFL kicker Tom Dempsey.
😆😆😆 I remember Dempsey. Held the field goal record for awhile.
If only Disney still owned us, we could store him next to Walt.
I agree but it won’t matter much anyway because he won’t return for a long time.
Honestly, I do not even think about him anymore. He’s already gone. Such a decline.
I’m at the same point. Tons of records and career milestones are out of reach now due to the last 4 years of Covid and injuries.
But then, i’ve been on the trade him train for the last year+ so…
why? Likelihood is he will get injured again next season regardless.
If he’s healthy, he better play (until he gets hurt again).
Also, shut him down next year. He’s obviously an asshole just like Rendon. Always getting hurt and having surgery on purpose now that he got paid. I saw it coming. Want to hear about it? Ok, here goes….
Your ideas intrigue me and i’d like to subscribe to your newsletter.
It’s a Podcast now. Called the Renzone. It’s about baseball players who get money and then spend years doing fun shit like breaking bones and having joints surgically repaired. Dislocating shit. Doing incredibly pleasurable physical therapy. Totally avoiding crying about it in front of reporters, even though to do so would show Real Baseball Men how angry they are at their bodies. Plus an inside look at all the stuff they do instead of being healthy and playing baseball, like eating and talking to family members and how it all gives us proof that they don’t even care about coming back because they don’t like baseball for realz in their heart meat. Ultra plus, how it all goes back to evilArte…. and the Illuminatti…. and then aliens.
Chicks love it.
It always comes back to the aliens…
