There. Now you don’t have to bother reading the postgame article I spent several hours writing.
Patrick Sandoval gave up a two run homer in the first inning to Heliot Ramos. Mickey Moniak answered with a solo shot in the second inning. 2-1 Giants.
There was no scoring until the bottom of the fifth inning when Heliot Ramos doubled in another run. 3-1 Giants. Logan O’Hoppe answered with a two run homer in the top of the sixth. 3-3 tie.
Mat Moore came in to pitch the bottom of the sixth. Nick Ahmed made it to third on a hit, an error by Pillar, and a steal. He stayed there though.
In the seventh, Nolan Schanuel walked and then stole second for his first steal in the big leagues. The catcher threw the ball into center field allowing Schanuel to reach third. Luis Rengifo singled to make it 4-3 Angels.
Hunter Strickland came in to pitch and gave Heliot Ramos a ground rule double to lead off the bottom of the seventh inning. That was it, though. Luis Garcia replaced Hunter Strickland for the bottom of the eighth inning. He did not allow a base runner.
In the top of the ninth, Jo Adell struck out for his fourth time in the game. Carlos Estevez pitched OK in the ninth. The Angels won.

Beating Frisco is one of my favorite things.
Anyone who thinks that Perry will get valuable propects for Anderson, Rengifo, etc., I have a bridge in Baltimore that I’d like to sell you.
How much?
I thought that bridge was in Brooklyn?
I’d like to think that Joyce is better than Suarez, but I expect a sad day in Halo-dom. Sigh.
Once Anderson is traded for some used bats and pre-chewed bubblegum, this will be a regular occurrence.
Perry won’t trade Anderson for “used bats and pre-chewed bubblegum.” There is no reason to. He’s signed for another year and Perry has the leverage. If he doesn’t get value back he won’t trade him — and that is as it should be.
And in addition he flat out won’t trade Rengifo because other GM’s will think they can rip Perry off by giving 2-3 unproven nobodies and PTP will say “Take a hike.” That is the way you have to do business as a team… You have to think “I am going to trade my scraps and get a diamond back,” or otherwise “I’ll trade a good player and get someone BETTER back.”
Rengifo is not that old and still cheap. No reason at all to trade him anyways…
You’re exactly Frostie. I don’t think the Angels have sunken to the level of desperation of not being able to afford their Arb 2 players or a free agent that they committed to years ago so he could hold out for maximum value and overpayment by the other team before trading either one
I hate the idea of a bullpen game.
We don’t have an off day tomorrow.
Why not give a kid a cup of coffee?
At this point doesn’t matter what kid.
Instead of burning up the relievers!!
Haiku or Limerick?
Same as always…just my style.
You misspelled cowpen.
TRADEMARK!!!
You misspelled TrAdition.

Cimber on IL to be replaced with a Marte party .
Thank you Charles!!
The fact that Perry has bungled the development of Detmers and Adell is what’s costing us the most. If those two were good, they’d fill really important roles. Instead they feel like giant holes. Drafting Dana is a make up for drafting Bachman. Neto is ok, he fit a need. O’Hoppe was a good trade off for Marsh but I assumed Adell would be good. Moniak is a role player throw in for crappy Syndergaard. Schanny is a Round 3 player that needs to be Introduced to a weight room. I would argue that Perry’s minor league drafting and player development has just been a net 0.
The future of the team is O’Hoppe and Neto assuming they stay healthy plus a couple pitchers. Adell was never looking like he would be good. He has made great strides but it might be too little too late. Even blessed with physical gifts, some guys don’t learn. He may be one. We will see.
Adell did well in the minors, but has struggled (Mostly) at the majors. Welcome to MLB. Baseball peeps have said ad nauseum that you can’t learn to be a major leaguer in the minors. Many other can’t fail phenoms have failed this year, besides Adell.
In the minors many pitchers struggle to even throw strikes, many lean on their fastball and learn often that best fastball repeated in the same spot won’t make it to the catcher’s glove.
yeah, our minors haven’t manufactured much lately, but GD Sam, don’t blame the GM that Adell won’t stay within what was successful for him.
I disagree on Shanny, drop him down to AAA and have him pop gun hit around .320ish there and around .300 in the majors with a high OBP. We can work with that. Have him do some damn quick twitch drills and get that @#$%ing trailer off his back.
Perry is avoiding a lot of AAA because it gives a false sense of offense due to how the ball carries in the PCL. Schanuel needs bat speed and just basic strength … I mean he can’t fill out his own jersey. That was the huge red flag from him in the draft. He had 0 power in the cape cod league once he got to wooden bats. Fly outs that become homers will not help. This was a major issue pointed out a long time ago.. the Angels play in the dead ball High A league and the inflated PCL high altitude AAA. That just means 0 consistent development. Perry only trusts AA and A at this point.
But is that a fact? Perry didnt Draft Detmers or Adell and Adell had already made his Major League debut while Perry was still cleaning toilets in Atlanta. If anything Perry’s trying to salvage what’s left of Adells fledgling MLB Career. As for Detmers, you can certainly blame PTP for retaining Matt Wise permanently after the Mr. Mick’s Dick Pic scandal, but I’m not blaming him for Detmers being such a head case. Lets see if Barry and the AAA contingent can fix him like they thought they did before.
BTW the book on Bachman has not been written yet even though it’s not looking all that promising to be a best seller. But if you go back and look at that first round, I’m not sure what other pitcher Perry should have taken other than Gavin Williams (who may have blown out his elbow) . Now you can blame him for not drafting the best available player but with an emphasis to restock an organization extremely devoid on pitching, there hasn’t been alot of first round misses emerging yet.
I was never impressed with Minasian’s gimmick all pitcher gimmick, and the results were not outstanding, to say the least
Nice series win-We’re out of the cellar and…….and….out of the cellar.
Go Halos!!
Two wins in a row, three in the last four.
Moniak is a streaky guy. That’s probably the result of not walking much. When you swing a ton sometimes you’ll be good and sometimes you’ll be bad.
Dodger broadcast has some pretty great camera angles.
O’Hoppe with the Wood today!
Shufflebot Manana Okay?
Not so fast …. Suarez is starting, if I am not mistaken.
Bullpen game, Joyce is opening up then Suarez
Yikes X2!!
Yikes!!
Yikes
I have never seen so many teams playing .468 to .500 ball ever. Ck it out.
Adell đŸ‘‡
O’Hoppe đŸ‘†
Schanny đŸ‘‡
Moniak đŸ‘†
Neto đŸ‘Œ
Our hopes for a good draft choice đŸ‘ˆ đŸ‘‰
2024=2023=2022=2021, get the picture? Yes, we see, be a long time till we’re leader of the pack. đŸ˜ ï»¿
.500 could be our 2002
now through August 4th we have a much better schedule than what we’ve already been up against, including 10 vs Oakland. I might have counted wrong but it’s 43 games. That’s 2 vs the Dodgers, then lots against teams like Colorado, the Mets, Tigers…
We won’t be contenders but our record might look, well, better as we pass the trade deadline.
It’ll worsen after the trade deadline. đŸ˜³
Hopefully that is true.
It’s nice to win, I’m not sure the Giants qualify as a decent team, but we weren’t even beating teams like this before, so that’s improvement. O’Hoppe’s HR 467ft. So far our future position players are Neto, O’Hoppe, and Trout. We need 6 more. 2-3 more may come from our current roster. Hopefully we can’t get at least 1 in each of the next 2 drafts and 1-2 from trades. Then we can add a couple of FAs and we might have team. I think we should shoot for 2027 and hope that we get there a year early. I would like to see the organization add pieces incrementally.
Can they pitch?
Yeah we still have that issue.
We need to fix Detmers.
He was little better for there Bees on Thursday at Las Vegas:
6 innings 4 Hits 1 HR 3 Walks 2 ERs & 7 K’s
This is a far cry from his first AAA start where he pitched 5 innings but gave up 10 hits 7 ERs 4 HRs.
Lets hope the worst is behind Detmers as he makes his way back to the bigs.
Well, decent team, not sure. But they have a better record than us, so yes, definitely a better team.
SF and AZ have practically identical records but AZ was a bad series, but we have a series win vs. SF.
Moniak is heating up, Adell is cratering.
Baseball is crazy.
No team has 9 superstars on the field at one time. 4-5 tops, with the rest being league average.
With that in mind, I add Schanuel, Ward. and Moniak to your list of 3, That’s a solid group that can be augmented with trades or current personnel.
The Angels need pitchers! Not position players. Starting pitchers, long-relief pitchers, middle relief pitchers, and a new closer.
Without these, nothing else matters. Put all the new shiny chairs you want on the deck of the Pitching Titanic but in the end it will still s(t)ink.
I wasn’t really referring to superstars even though we actually only have 1 on our current roster if you count Trout. The reason I did not include them is because Schanuel and Moniak are currently no where near league average. Ward is better than average right now but he will not be here when the Angels are good again either because he gets traded or because he becomes a free agent. Schanuel is 20% below league average and Moniak is 50% below. Things may change, but for now they are not very good.
I agree the Angels need pitchers but they also desperately need position players. I am not as pessimistic about the future starting pitching as you are. We absolutely need a new bullpen.
looks like we’ll need to get lucky with the 2025 draft. We’re moving on up!
