Mother’s Day Postgame

Seth Lugo dominated the Angels today while earning a career high with 12 strikeouts. He did not walk anybody.

Here is a visualization of available bullpen pitchers for the Angels. We probably won’t use Suarez today.

Inning #1

Salvador Perez got a two out single but it didn’t matter because Patrick Sandoval struck out the next guy. Luis Guillorme doubled to left to start things off. Mickey Moniak struck out. Taylor Ward fouled out to the catcher. Willie Calhoun bounced out to second.

Inning #2

Again Sandoval coughed up a two out single, this time to the struggling Hunter Renfroe. Michael Massey promptly hit into a force out. Logan O’Hoppe flied out to left. Niko Goodrum struck out, but at least he watched 7 pitches. Jo Adell popped out to right center.

Inning #3

Garrett Hampson smoked one toward third but fortunately it was caught by Luis Guillorme.

Maikel Garcia flied out to right and Bobby Witt Jr. flied out to Kyren Paris at second base. Zach Neto struck out swinging. Kyren Paris struck out looking and Luis Guillorme lined out to right field.

Inning #4

Salvador Perez came up and stroked a led off double to left field. Nelson Velazquez singled to left driving Salvador Perez to third. Freddy Fermin singled, to left again, and scored Salvador Perez. 1-0 Royals. Dairon Blanco beat out a sacrifice bunt for an infield hit. Hunter Renfroe then got another hit and made it 3-0 Royals. Michael Massey executed a squeeze bunt and made it 4-0 Royals. Garrett Hampson flied out and Maikel Garcia grounded out.

Mickey Moniak struck out. Taylor Ward flied out to center. Willie Calhoun singled to left. So did Logan O’Hoppe. Willie Calhoun made it to third base with two outs. Niko Goodrum struck out swinging.

Inning #5

Nelson Velazquez got the obligatory two out hit in this inning. Freddie Fermin struck out to bring up the Angels. Jo Adell struck out and then Zack Neto grounded out to short. Kyren Paris also struck out.

Inning #6

Dairon Blanco got another infield hit to third baseman Luis Guillorme. Hunter Renfroe grounded into a double play. Michael Massey singled on a liner to center. Garrett Hampson grounded out 5-3. Luis Guillorme grounded out to short. Mickey Moniak singled to right. Taylor Ward flied out to right. Willie Calhoun doubled to right center and drove in Moniak. 4-1 Royals.

Logan O’Hoppe grounded out to third.

Inning #7

Maikel Garcia got a bunt single. He stole second without a throw. Bobby Witt Jr. reached on a fielding error by Zack Neto. Hunter Strickland came in to pitch for Patrick Sandoval. Salvador Perez struck out swinging. So did pinch hitter MJ Melendez. Freddy Fermin grounded into a force out. Niko Goodrum struck out looking. Jo Adell grounded out to third. Zack Neto struck out swinging.

Inning #8

Now Amir Garrett came in to pitch. Dairon Blanco struck out swinging. Hunter Renfroe popped out to second. Michael Massey struck out swinging. Kyren Paris came up and flied out to center. Luis Guillorme also struck out. So did Mickey Moniak.

Inning #9

Carson Fulmer came in to pitch the ninth. Garrett Hampson flied out to right field. Maikel Garcia struck out looking. Bobby Witt Jr reached for the second time on a fielding error by Zack Neto. Salvador Perez flied out to right. Taylor Ward flied out to center field. Willie Calhoun homered off the Kansas City closer, James McArthur. 4-2 Royals.

Logan O’Hoppe flied out to center. Nolan Schanuel came in to pinch hit for Niko Goodrum and grounded out to the shortstop. The Angels lost 4-2.

Basically this was like a spring training B game except nobody was running wind sprints in the outfield.

Worst ever full 162 game season win/loss is 67-95 at .414% in 1968.

Same old Angels. Score a bunch of runs in a game, then can’t score for 2 or 3 games.
