The season is well underway now. The Angels have quite a streak going, but not in a good way. Let’s see how Griffin Canning does today. Some of you may be pleased to see both Jo Adell and Mickey Moniak starting in the outfield. Unfortunately, Lius Rengifo will start at second base. Mike Trout will be our leadoff hitter. I guess he better be ready to swing the bat. A minor league umpire, Emil Jimenez, was calling balls and strikes tonight.
Inning #1
Gunnar Henderson hit into a 6-3 groundout. Adley Rutschman flied out to Mike Trout. Ryan O’Hearn drew a walk. Anthony Santander then struck out. Mike Trout merely hit a lead off home run. 1-0 Angels.
Nolan Schanuel flied out to right field. Taylor Ward walked to bring up Miguel Sano who struck out for the second out. Mickey Moniak also struck out.
Inning #2
Cedric Mullins flied out to Mickey Moniak in left field. Colton Cowser grounded out to first. Jordan Westburg lined out to Miguel Sano. It was a really nice play for a guy who is not likely to win a gold glove. Not everybody Perry picked up is turning out to be a total bust.
Griffin Canning had thrown 25 pitches over two innings, which was economical by his standards. Maybe the pitchers meeting had an effect.
Logan O’Hoppe hit a fly ball out to the left fielder Colton Cowser. Jo Adell hit a stand up double to left center. Luis Rengifo doubled to score Jo Adell. 2-0 Angels.
Zach Neto singled in Rengifo and then took second on the throw. 3-0 Angels.
Mike Trout struck out. Nolan Schanuel grounded out.
Inning #3
Heston Kjerstad struck out. So did Jackson Holliday. Gunnar Henderson grounded out to Zach Neto. Taylor Ward doubled to left. Miguel Sano struck out. Mickey Moniak flied out to right. Logan O’Hoppe doubled in Ward. 4-0 Angels.
Jo Adell singled on a liner to center, scoring O’Hoppe. 5-0 Angels. Unfortunately, Adell was caught stealing to end the inning.
Inning #4
Adley Rutschman came up and singled to left. Ryan O’Hearn walked. Anthony Santander lined out to left. Cedric Mullins struck out. Colton Cowser grounded out to second. Luis Rengifo got an infield single to the catcher. Zach Neto doubled to score Rengifo. 6-0 Angels.
Nolan Schanuel singled to score Neto. 7-0 Angels.
Then Taylor Ward struck out and Miguel Sano did as well.
Inning #5
Jordan Westburg singled to lead off the inning. Canning was now at 62 pitches through 5 innings on a comfortable 7-0 lead. It was time to nut up or shut up on the issue of throwing strikes. Heston Kjerstad lined out to left but Jackson Holliday singled to drive Westburg to third with one out. Gunnar Henderson hit a sacrifice fly to score Jordan Westburg. 7-1 Angels. Adley Rutschman singled, sending Henderson to third. All right! I said strikes, not big old fat meatballs. Get somebody out for cryin’ out loud. Ryan O’Hearn doubled one deep to left, scoring Jackson Holliday and Adley Rutschman. 7-3 Angels. Thankfully, Anthony Santander popped out to third to stop the bleeding.
Mickey Moniak struck out on a foul tip. Logan O’Hoppe singled on a liner to center. Dillon Tate came in to replace Grayson Rodriguez with Jo Adell at the plate. Adell lined into a double play to end the inning.
Inning #6
Adam Cimber came in to replace Griffin Canning. Cedric Mullins struck out. Colton Cowser walked. Jordan Westburg lined out to second. Heston Kjerstad struck out looking. Luis Rengifo grounded out. So did Zach Neto. Mike Trout unfortunately also struck out. The Angels apparently need to hang on to this one by their nails.
Inning #7
Matt Moore came in to replace Adam Cimber. Jackson Holliday grounded out to Moore. Gunnar Henderson homered to right field. Luckily, it was a solo homer. 7-4 Angels. Adley Rutschman singled to left. Ryan Mountcastle came in to pinch hit for Ryan O’Hearn. Luis Garcia then came in to pitch for Moore. Ooh! Chess moves! Maybe Ron Washington knows things that I don’t. Maybe not. Mountcastle singled sharply to Mike Trout to send Rutschman to second base. Anthony Santander lined out to send Rutschman to third. Cedric Mullins struck out. Sheesh! So the Angels still have the lead. How long will that last?
Keegan Akin replaced Dillon Tate and struck out Nolan Schanuel. So there! Taylor Ward also struck out. Miguel Sano walked. Aaron Hicks came in to replace Mickey Moniak whereupon Yohan Ramirez came in to replace Keegan Akin. I guess they can do that … three batter rule etc. etc. Aaron Hicks struck out, so whatever.
Inning #8
Colten Cowser struck out swinging. Jordan Westburg grounded out to second. Heston Kjerstad struck out swinging. Logan O’Hoppe popped out to first. Jo Adell was hit by a pitch. Unfortunately, he got picked off. Two outs. Luis Rengifo struck out.
Inning #9
Carlos Estevez came in to pitch, of course. Jackson Holliday struck out. Gunnar Henderson grounded out to the pitcher. Adley Rutschman struck out. Game over. Angels win one. 7-4
The Orioles Bullpen was so much better than ours tonight that after we scored our 7th run in the 4th inning tonight we were 1 for 15 with 8 strikeouts
This thing is dusty
Baker?
Rhodes?
Muffin?
Great game by Adell. New swing is playing at the MLB level. Or at least looks like it will.
He should play daily or nearly so.
Play the kid!
We won!!!
Is that allowed?
waiting for word on Moore
Looks like it got the meaty part of his hand. Hopefully he’ll be okay very soon.
Thank You!!
Trout with the tone setting leadoff jack following a clean 1st by Canning.
O’Hoppe, Adell, Rengifo & Neto got is done tonight.
Adequate performance from the BP.
Keep Trout at leadoff and keep starting Jo.
Nice Trout, Nice Estevez, Nice Garcia, Nice Canning
