LA Angels Wednesday News Crash: A win at last

Good morning Angels fans! Have some links!

Angels News

The Angels won yesterday! Somehow. The somehow is the offense being actually good for once this year, scoring 7 against Baltimore!

Condensed game in 8 Mins

And the Angels are rewarded with a Wednesday day game. Ugh. Who asks for this?

Oh and that RP that the Angels signed who got injured. It is TJ surgery. He won’t be ready until mid next year at best. See, this is why Arte doesn’t spend money on pitchers.

But good news maybe. Miguel Sano may actually be really good. He is hitting the ball the hardest and hitting balls hard more often than anyone else in Baseball this year.

Around Baseball

Nike continues to be an embarrassment as now they are out of cleats. Somehow. THEY ARE A SHOE COMPANY. How did they manage to mess THAT up?

Who fills their stadiums the best? San Diego apparently. The number of seats skews the numbers obviously but hey, when the Angels are above average, wait, HOW?

Oh just barely

Despite umpires being disliked, they are getting better. That includes the infamous Angel Hernandez. Well, except last year. Part of that is due to younger umps being better than older ones usually and the age of umpires have decreased lately as some have retired.

Yankees manager Aaron Boone was ejected because a fan was heckling the umpire. He tried to clear his name on Talkin’ Yanks. He is beyond it now, whatever that means.

This is the worst Astros team since 2016. 10 games under .500. You love to see it.

Now that it’s close, Trout Ks.

Without Suarez, we’d be leading.

Why do they spend so much time talking about Cano’s injury but say nothing about Sano’s besides barely mentioning it before a fluffy canned feature.

…and the Snell signing gets even worse. Snell to 15 day IL.

Sorry, I forgot Drury who is currently 60. The good news is that we may have gone from 4 players to 6 players who ware productive but the bad news is that we still have 3 automatic outs. It’s not quite as rosey as it looks thouhg because Trout, O’Hoppe, and Ward have all cooled off considerably, and Schanuel is hopefully on the rise.

Trout leading off and serving as the DH today. Jo starts again. Once again, we have nice speed 6-9 (Moniak, Adell, Rengifo, Neto) which circles back to Trout at 1.

Good predictions yesterday as speed was evident at 7-8-0 holes. Be nice to see it happen once again.

Drury’s injury must be lingering because he’s basically not playing at all. Strange.

Not sure you can include Moniak on that speed list if cant even get out of the batters box.

Nice to see the team hit .500 last night with RISP

Trout was 0/2 of course, lowering his season average to .105 in these situations. His BABIP is an unbelievable .083 with RISP though, so hopefully some reversion to the mean gets him back on track a little bit.

Some guy named Stephenson who took $33 million of Arturo’s money claims he injured himself on a single pitch in a rehab game. Dude, it was a rehab game. It’s not like you were healthy before you rehurt yourself. How about cut the comments and just hang out with Rendon at the nursing home.

The injury will trigger a clause in Stephenson’s contract allowing the Angels to have an option to bring him back in 2027 for $2.5 million.

Cheap insurance, I guess, assuming he recovers from TJ surgery. Otherwise it seems it is $33MM down the drain.

I have a question.

Because that is a club controlled option for 2027, does that mean that the AAV for his contract just went down?

Yesterday’s game was precisely what I, and most of us here, expected the season to be — fun, exciting ball full of youthful exuberance.

Wins and loses are immaterial in comparison to watching our “young core” develop. Let em play, Wash.

I’m not following Sho the way I anticipated I would. Finally checked his numbers… and holy shit he’s having a sickly insane start to the season lol.

Anyway, let’s take the series today!

Exactly, the team is where I expected them to be early in the season, below .500 and very inconsistent.

But, there are some bright spots. Detmers, Anderson, Soriano…..

Sano ends up being a great signing.

Ward coming back strong from a serious injury.

I’m ok with letting the kids play and develop.

And hope they unload Hicks and see what we really have in Mick and Adell.

Exactly. I’m having fun watching Detmers, seeing Anderson bounce back, seeing Tay Tay do well, watching Adell possibly come to life…. O’Hoppe is dope…. it’s not all doom, in fact there’s the bones of a fine roster here maybe.

Yep, Ohtani is unstoppable at the plate now. What seems like every hitter LA signs gets magically better it couldn’t happen to him cause we’ve seen him at the top of his game, right? Wrong, Dodgers got him hitting for extremely high average now, older and getting better. Like Betts and Freeman. Not just fans, probably every MLB club is wondering how they can continuously do it.

Does Moniak have options? If yes, send him down so he can hopefully get back on track. He’a an automatic out at present.

Need another Plus outing from Anderson today. Let’s snatch this series.

25 vs 34

Moniak is still young.
I’d rather let Hicks go.

I never suggested that Moniak should be DFA’d, merely sent down to “get right” if he has options.

Hicks should be let go regardless of what does or doesn’t happen with Mickey.

Yes, Sir. Done.

If it was possible to send him down, you would probably want to keep Hicks as the 4th OF until Mickey was ready to be recalled. It would be good for Mickey to play every day and work out the hitting bugs. Not sure he has any options though and he may or may not make it through unclaimed. Someone may think they could fix him.

I agree, DFA Hicks, make Moniak the 4th OF. Start Adell every day. He seems to finally be breaking out.

I haven’t seen anything. Par for the course with the Angels being very unforthcoming regarding player injuries. They all start with day to day, end up being season-ending.

1 for 15 8 K’s to end the game . Hopefully ti doesn’t carry over to today.
