Today we had Griffin Canning against The Amazing Criswell. What will the future bring? (For the future is where you and I will spend the rest of our lives.)
Inning #1
Anthony Rendon hit a 5-3 ground out. Nolan Schanuel struck out looking. Mike Trout popped out to second.
Jarren Duran grounded out to second. Wilyer Abreu doubled on a bloop to right. Masataka Yoshida singled and drove in Abreu. 1-0 Boston. Triston Casas homered to right center and made it 3-0 Boston. Bobby Dalbec struck out. Emmanuel Valdez doubled to left. Taylor Ward laid out for it, but no dice. Canning threw a wild pitch to advance Valdez to third. Ceddane Rafaela hit an infield single to score Valdez. 4-0 Boston. Rafaela tried to steal second but he blew it and was tagged between second and third. This was a rather hard luck inning for Canning, but the homer wasn’t an accident.

Abreu eventually stole second base. Masataka Yoshida singled to Left and scored Abreu. 6-0 Boston. Yoshida took second on the throw to home.
Inning #3
Anthony Rendon singled to left. Nolan Schanuel struck out. He had hit a ball off of *ahem* a sensitive region. Mike Trout grounded out to third. Taylor Ward homered for the second day in a row! 6-2 Boston.
Aaron Hicks flied out to right.
At this point Ron Washington yanked Nolan Schanuel and replaced him with Miguel Sano. Bobby Dalbec struck out. Emmanuel Valdez struck out looking. Ceddane Rafaela flied out to right.
Inning #4

Wilyer Abreu struck out. Masataka Yoshida grounded out to the right side. Triston Casas struck out swinging.
Inning #8

Nolan Schanuel hit this foul ball off of himself in his last at bat. Hopefully it is not a long term injury.

This rain delayed game in LA is making me remember how much I enjoy late night baseball. It’s truly a shame we never see games go to 11 or midnight anymore.
Win tomorrow and take the series!
Go Halos!
Never a big Canning guy, due to his fragility, his fastball did tick up last year and had a quiet productive year. With a strikeout rate of 9..8K/9 in 2023, I thought he might have a good chance at being the teams No.2 starter. It’s still April, hoping he gets going. I really liked that Wash kept him in and gave him some innings and did not knee jerk in the 2nd. I’m liking this manager, quite a bit.
Well, when they pushed him back twice this week and said he is working on things, that pretty much provided no confidence for this start. Maybe by the end of the month or mid-May?
I agree. His career stats are middling at best (66 career starts: ERA 4.78, WHIP 1.32). He’s been injured frequently, but when he’s not injured he’s proven very hittable with marginal consistency (strikes/balls).
I like that he’s a UCLA product – and there was once hope that he’d be a top of the rotation starter. However after 5 years, he’s looking like a back-end starter at best.
Our SP is really just Detmers and Anderson. I’m not sure what Perry was thinking by not addressing the obvious voids.
The Rangers just put Brooke Burke on the 15-day IL…
Nolan Schanuel has a testicular contusion.
Which Boston player did it?
He fouled it into himself.
What I hear you saying is that the Boston pitcher and catcher colluded to damage Lil’ Nolan.
My sources say there is a strong possibility of that.
….hit this foul ball off of himself.
It’s the Magic-
BulletBall Theory. It was thrown from the Green Monster.I just put on my cup. Safety first.
OUCH!!!
At least he didn’t break his pelvis…. So we’ve been told.
So Enright fixed Detmers and Anderson but broke Canning. Got it.
Some players can’t be fixed – Canning’s and Sandoval’s problems are their own
Sandoval needs a psychologist at the worst, lobotomy at best. 😷
Exorcist
The only series we’ve won so far was the one where Detmers and Anderson both pitched in it. Anderson goes tomorrow.
🤔
The Marlin series was the only one so far where they both started games in the same series, which is why we won at least twice in that series. Other than that, in all the other series only one of them pitched. This is only the second time that they have both started a game in the same series, giving us a solid chance to win our second series tomorrow.
I suppose a good game to miss. Stoked to see OHoppe & Ward doing well, happy Rendon figured it out the last week.
UFC to close the night and rugby team playing for the ‘chip next week at CSULB. Sun is still shining above these rain clouds!
Man, if only we had some pitching depth!
This is one of those “if everything goes right” situations already running off the rails.
Who could have predicted?
I believe you and many others here did.
I still can’t understand why Arte didn’t authorize at least trying to sign someone like Monty who just cost money. I’ve got to believe Arte is trying to keep down costs to sell.
But, as many have said, it is also possible that every other free agent pitcher that Perry approached said they weren’t interested.
He did it because he hates us…specifically everyone who is a CtPG member
I imagine he might if he knew us.
Nahh, there’s no way we could know more than the professionals in the front office.
Great post game.
Canning looks cooked.
He will get it together, he had no walks and some bad judgements in the field behind him, it was the start that toasted him. Don’t give up just yet.
and yet we’re still only 1/2 game out of first
At this pace … we’re going to be ______
Which would be an improvement 🤣
I don’t have a calculator handy but we’re 7-7 now. That’s 14 games out of 162. Let me see if I can work this. Ok, that’s 8.642% of the season so far. Each 14 games is 1/11.57143th of the season so if we multiply 7 wins by 11.57143…wait, I can do this…putting it in Excel…
I get 81-81.
Appreciate you showing your work.
Maybe you can help me. I need to make a decision to renew my Sano Fan Club membership on May 1. $9.99 for 2 months, or $6.99 month by month.
Or, should stop my membership?
Free .500 baseball! 1/2 good. 1/2 bad.
