It was a glorious start to the day. Mike Trout crushed a home run in the top of the first to give the Angels a 1-0 lead.
it went awry from after that.

Are the Angels broadcast teams traveling to away games this season, or is Arte keeping them in a bunker somewhere?
15-minute – SpaceX rocket launch scheduled for a few minutes after sunset from Vandenberg at 7:30 p.m.
Got to wonder, does he still have “the fire” or what ever people who can’t help telling other people they are motivated say?
A new owner will fix EVERYTHING right away and I can’t wait. Maybe he’ll even hire Joe Maddon to manage or one of the other things that are supposed to fix everything.
I’ll give it one more day…..then we start with the TANK references.
This year’s theme. “TANK 4 2025”
Looking at the box score, I see Rendon led off and went 0-4. The team had only 2 hits. Guess I didn’t miss much.
Thats Ok guys. We only have to win 6 games between now and April 19th and we got ’em right where we want ’em.
this reminded me of my softball team from a couple of years ago. We came in last so, because all teams made the playoffs, our first post-season game was against the regular season champs. We scored 3 in the top of the 1st on our way to losing 31-7.
You and Charlie Brown ….

Well, head case Sandoval shit the mound today. 1 2/3 innings for the opening day start? Yeeesh. Put him on the 10 day IL and have him spend 24 hrs a day with a sports psychologist.
And it looks like Washington is saving his 15 added wins for later in the season.
He’s 17-37 with a 3.8 ERA over 5 years. He had one really good year with a sub-3 ERA, otherwise he’s average at best. If he’s.500 this season with a mid-4 ERA we should be thrilled
The funny thing about the offseason is that it always finds a way to make me forgot about how miserable and nauseating Angels baseball is lol.
We will win some games, and lose a bunch.
Only real takeaways from me today is Trout is still awesome, Rendone is still a loser and FREE RENGIFO.
I think what’s frustrating is that this season really wasn’t a foregone conclusion – it wasn’t “flushable” as halofansince1978 puts it below.
If you believe in a youth movement, the team could certainly have embraced that – letting Neto, O’Hoppe and Schanuel play – and still have built a deep, competitive rotation that could get them across the .500 line with a decent shot at contention. The prices were soooo low, and teams with a solid 3 or 4 arms can exceed expectations, even with a middling offense.
Most of the Angels’ current rotation is not young. They’re not the base an eventual Angels champion will be built on. Anderson and Canning are gone in two years, Sandoval in three. Given what was available this March, bringing in two studs on short term contracts would have had little to no long-term impact on the Angels future, but significant impact to the Angels’ present. The only guys you’d really like to see develop are Detmers and Silseth, with an outside bet on Soriano – and why not give them two mentors with recent postseason experience?
Meanwhile, the early overpay on a high-volatility set-up man with a thin track record was bizarre.
It’s just maddening that they could have picked up both Snell and Montgomery – a true #1 and #2 – for relative peanuts, stayed under the LT line, and even losing one pick, would go into the draft with 20 picks in 20 rounds.
I truly think this team could have contended with a rotation led by Snell, Montgomery and Detmers. But even if that bet was bad, you could flip the both of them for 4-6 pitching prospects with long-term control at the deadline. A decent GM could vault this system from the bottom to the middle of the talent rankings in one year flat with that excess value.
I was all in on Snell.
I’m with ya TT. Here’s the thing tho, if we aren’t gonna sign any impactful FAs (bar Stephenson), at least don’t block Rengifo, Moniak, and Adell from consistent playing time.
I think those three will all get plenty of playing time. Then one or two of Moniak and Adell will likely be cut lose if they underperform.
This FO commits to a strategy for like 14 minutes, then reverses course. I’d be shocked it they let a full season play out with this OF mix.
No way I’m losing international money and a comp pick on a team that just got gassed at last years trade deadline. Snell had an opt-out and if he performed marginally, not getting the prospects you think we would and his baggage included another $31M season. I do t see anything that screams discount. For Monty, would have thought hard on him. Not the biggest fan however but would have filled a need and was decent trade bait after last years showing.
Arte aint gonna spend for the Snells and Montgomerys because he has no idea about how many fans will be coming to the park and there is uncertainty re TV money. In short, he is thinking like a businessman and even though I personally think his baseball knowledge and ability to run a baseball organization is zilch – he is a good businessman.
There isn’t much to say. Sandoval’s stuff isn’t good enough for him to be as wild as he was. It’s a recurring problem sadly.
Burnes is a terrific pitcher and the umpiring wasn’t helping the Angels. If you give a pitcher like that the benefit of the doubt on balls out of the zone, it’s likely going to be a long day for the hitters. That’s what was happening.
Add in a couple fielding issues and they weren’t going to win. Was it a good start? No. Does it say anything about the rest of the season? No, except don’t bet on Sandy.
Let’s try not to get swept.
OMG! So many want to flush the season after one game.
If we’d have won, no one on the site would be (Seriously) calling out world series dreams.
That/s because this season is flushable.
I say get used to it that makes is easier.
I know. HOLY SHIT GUYS! WE GOT OUR ASSES HANDED TO US BY A STACKED TEAM PITCHING AN ACES ACE ON OPENING DAY IN A CITY THAT JUST SUFFERED A TRAGEDY AND THUS IS FIRED UP! OBVIOUSLY THERE’S NO POINT TO BEING A BASEBALL FAN ANYMORE! WE WILL LOSE 200 GAMES!
We all know going into it this isn’t gonna be a season for pussies. It’s never too early to go follow soccer, the WNBA, or the Doyers this summer…. cause there are gonna be at least a few more games like this PLUS we will probably lose some closer games too.
At least the Reds won….
Right, like after that bridge collapsed we had no chance in winning. Baseball gods love a resilient city storyline.
That’s all well and good and I’m moved but, let’s kick the shit out them on Saturday & Sunday anyway.
Yeah. They got their disaster bump. Now they need to collapse for about 18 innings.
Burnes is the first pitcher since 1934 to get 10+Ks and fewer than 2H allowed on an opening day.
So basically a reverse Tungsten O’Doyle situation, because, of course, it is against us now.
😄
This is the first season in a long time that I didn’t sign up for MLB TV to watch every game from TX.
So far, I’m not regretting my decision.
The funny thing is, I’d watch them if they were in full rebuild mode. But I don’t know what this is. Rendon batting lead off?
I would rather see Adell, Moniak, and Rengifo than Hicks, Sano, and Rendon. Maybe they won’t do any better but none of the latter are going to help you plan for next year.
This team isn’t going anywhere this season and I agree, I would rather they give Adell & Moniak more playing time.
with enough AB’s, Adell could be the first 300 strikeout guy in MLB history. his k% is trending upwrd toward 50%. HISTORY
I’m totally ok with that this year because then they wouldn’t waste having him on the roster going forward. And they need to find out if Moniak is an everyday player or 4th OF.
