Doesn’t really matter, but that strike zone was quite fluid in the game, to put it nicely. Rendone was ripped and so was one of their hitters as well. Trout was squeezed as well, oh well….
Angels are playing great team baseball winning these preseason games. But concerning is play from some regulars and players we are hoping will be consistently ok during the regular season. The neighbors in blue star players are tearing it up. Disturbing is the article about how hot Ohtani is with Angels on deck; how he is ‘Ready’ to make a statement against his former team. I doubt he cares about showing up his former club at any point. Just big headed Dodger media throwing jabs.
It feels so 2023 for the manager to say Estevez is the closer. It needs to be Stephenson, or someone else, if Stephenson is not ready to go. Estevez is washed.
As I recall, there was no closer per se. I meant that it’s time to throw out the idea he is the returning closer and go with whoever is the most effective. I can’t remember the last time Estevez was effective once he lost it.
I’m sure Thats what they wanted us to believe but through the date Quijada blew out his elbow, he was getting most all of the team’s save opportunities and in the games Estevez did get opportunities ,Quijada had already pitched the previous inning since they were playing matchups so that was not an anointed closer philosophy .
You realize that the only pitcher on our 40 man roster that has extensive closing experience is Estevez (Even Stephenson only has a whopping 3 career saves) so who’s your choice to replace him ML?
It’s a legitimate question. Other than Stephenson, there isn’t a great option. I just don’t know how much you’re going to enjoy watching Estevez blowing up one game after another. I just hope Stephenson will be able to take over quickly. Maybe Wash can go to a committee based on individual game matchups. For example, I wouldn’t mind Matt Moore getting a shot against lefty heavy lineups.
Escobar closed like 24 out of 24 at one point last season. Yes, they overpitched him and he got tired near the end. This somehow means he’s totally washed this year and for his career? Really?
Bobby V referred to tomorrow as the first spring cut down day so it will be interesting to see if there will be any surprises among the minor league signee NRI’s
To date the Angel’s have used 39 different pitchers in Cactus League play most have which have looked in impressive. Even our youngsters like Caden Dana, Jack Kochanowicz, Kelvin Caceres ( who got a cup of coffee last September) and Wilbert Urena are turning heads.
The biggest busts so far have been Carlos Estevez (No surprise) Ben Joyce ( still a huge work in progress) and Reid Demers ( granted it was only one start but isn’t he supposed to be our no. 1 this year?) I’m really curious to see how how the pitching holds out after the pair downs and how we get deeper into Cactus League action.
Well, it’s only been a week but most of the regulars are off to very slow starts. Hicks is hot but it’s early spring pitching. A week from now, things could be totally different. In two more weeks, we should have a better idea. As long as Rengifo is out, there is an extra spot in the batting order. When Rengifo returns, he will probably play 2B. The 3rd OF spot and DH could be up for grabs between Drury, Hicks, Moniak, and Adell. Hicks and Adell will be trying to bump Drury and Moniack, who I believe are the default starters.
There is also the possibility that Hicks plays in place of Moniak against LH pitching leaving the DH spot for Drury, who I believe will play over Adell against LH Pitching.
Since we’re going with youth movement how about Hick’s kid? He looks like a good hitter.

Drives the ball better than Mayfield and Featherston ever did.
Looks like a toolsey swing…..he needs to start using he’s lower body more.
Not worried about his lack of size, he’s about as big as Altuve.

I’m not a h8r but **** the blue neighbors, as long as our regulars tighten up by end of ST, we’ll be alright,
So I was on camera today. Eighth inning behind home plate. I was one of the idiots waving a rubber chicken
Also very loudly sang “Oh Mickey” after the home run

Estevez wasn’t the closer to start 2023. Quesadilla was until he blew out his elbow.

I think counting on Stephenson to close is a big ask. His stuff is not that dominating. He might get his chances but I don’t see him as a closer.

Did they over pitch him or did the hot streak just catch up with him?
Raisel had a poor 2nd half for us, we got rid of him and he had a fine 2023 for Atlanta. Charlie can likewise rebound
Kelvim or Pablo ?

Well that didnt take long. Interesting to see who isn’t there. https://twitter.com/LAAngelsPR/status/1764421929782382650
La Vida Loca released?
excited to see Rada at whatever level he’s at this year
Less wait in the cafeteria now. Nothing shocking but thought White would get a longer look.
He must be injured.
Good shot at winning the Spring Training title again this year!
You think the Tempe locals celebrate our dynasty?
we’re gonna win 108!!
Shufflebot…it’s about time!!!
Shufflebot for Spring Training ?
Uh, not so sure about that …
I’m not participating. But if others want to – good for them.
If we are going to break all the unwritten rules. I might as well be the 1st to post 4 team…

Okay scrubs. It’s time to pull out a win for our team and show the veterans how it’s done.
Seems like a tight strike zone.
I think we carry 5 OF. Basically one of Trout or Hicks is DH most days so there is one OF on the bench.
In a way, Hicks becomes the Ohtani replacement. Plays a couple times a week in the field (outfielder not pitcher) and is the DH much of the time.

Exactly. He crushed lefties in recent years.
Feeling the Angels will want to get Moniak and Rengaffo in the lineup as much as possible to balance the lineup.
Understand Hicks has gotten some hits but there is nothing to be gained by playing him too much as we know what he is, a .200 to..240 ave hitter.
For them or for us JJ? Terry kept lamenting about how huge the Umpires strike zone was today trying to explain away all of our “caught looking” K’s
trOUT. Too early?
I’m a little worried, but he has also said he knows what he was doing wrong last year so he might be working on some stuff.
I hope he figures things out soon.
I think it’s obvious Hicks has that 4th OF spot now
You mean 3rd OF spot?
Yeah, maybe that’s more likely
Hicks + Shanny = 1 run.
Play Ball!!
