LA Angels Wednesday News Crash: Happy Valentine’s Day

Morning Angels fans. Have links.

Angels News

Gubi will be on the field for some Spring Training camp. Yes, seriously.

Speaking of broadcasters, all Cactus League games will be on Bally. Now, if we want to watch them all is another issue.

Jose Suarez will be late to camp due to a family matter. Jose Cisnero is having Visa issues. See, this is why Mastercard is better…

More Angels minor league deals yay! He hasn’t pitched since 2021.

Lets see what our new Manager has to say. 5 man rotation confirmed, and playing the hot hand, ugh.

Around Baseball

Today is when teams can use the 60 Day IL again. So maybe THIS is when we will get more FA signings.

Soler jumped the gun, going to SF for 3/42M. They finally get a FA! The city must be happy.

You know who isn’t happy? Texas. They still do not have their WS Blu Ray.

New season, new jerseys. And they suck according to the players.

New City Connect uniforms! Clev, Det, LAD, MIN, NYM, PHI, STL, TB, TOR. Wait, so Dodgers getting a new one? Will they suck as much as last time?

A’s may stay in Oakland a bit longer after all. Cruel or practical?

Meanwhile, the Royals, who ruined baseball in 2015, revealed their plans for an unnecessary new stadium in KC. No crown scoreboard. BOO!

Anything I missed? Post below for upvotes!

If any of you play Fantasy and play in keeper leagues, Paul Skenes might be worth even more than is projected. Spent some time with one of his old coaches. He predicted that he will be two-way after he settles in pitching. Says he’s not ready to fast track as hitter, but ready as a pitcher and will be top line guy. But he says long-term, he sees him grabbing the bat again. The dude finished second in Mountain West (a good mid-major conference) in hitting as a Freshman. He says he’s too good of a hitter not to be hitting, but is just so dominant and his fastest way to the show is focusing on pitching.

You can see how much Washington loves doing the infield drills there. Stern look on his face as he walks out of the tunnel, smiles once he’s on the dirt.

I remember players talking about how much they liked Sosh getting into the drills and getting dirty. I’d imagine that is more fun to see your boss playing out there.

I’m getting the same vibes here.

Ugggh.

I’ll say it one last time. The only way we can vote and make our voices heard in a manner that will matter is to not give Arte any money.

If you have to go to a game, buy from a secondary source (tickets should be cheap) and bring your own peanuts and other concessions to the game. If you have a beer, do so, at one of the locations that is not owned by him outside the stadium.

Cut the dude’s access to money off for long enough, and he will disappear is my opinion.

You understand by creating free content (commenting on a fan site/Reddit/ESPN) you are increasing Arte’s team value by maintaining/increasing his teams name recognition when they actually pay people to create content for them.

If you participate in Angels fandom you are supporting Arte.

when examining the data at a meta level, it doesn’t care about tone of post, only engagement/number of post & response.

With todays technology, we are far beyond simply looking at good vs bad press.

Well I Guess Arte also said this to Fletch:

Moreno added that it was always possible that someone would come back and make an offer that he couldn’t refuse.

“I’m a business person,” he said. “If someone gets really stupid, then you have to go.

So there it is. Come on ’71 you and your friends need to step up and make this happen . I’m sure a cool $4 Billion would get it done.

At his age, who knows what “long term” means.

Where there is smoke there is usually fire, and there has been a decent amount of smoke surrounding a sale this offseason.

Could be someone is pressuring him to sell and he doesn’t want to. Kids/family could be seeing dollar signs.

It’s like Dianne Feinstein a little bit. Not trying to start a political argument, but some times you just can’t give up power and control. They want to do it until they collapse.

He wants to show up to those owner meetings, be important, hang out with his billionaire owner buddies. He can’t accept being an old man in a mansion who isn’t important anymore.

He doesn’t care about winning, just what owning an MLB franchise can do for him personally.

I did not mean for that to be a wall of text but my fingers couldn’t stop 😅

I feel like someone told me Feinstein being Weekend-At-Bernies’d had something to do with her seniority having some importance with Senate votes? In other words maybe she was clinging to power but I also think her party was propping her up to get some votes through due to her seniority that would have been lost on a new face.

Because of her committee assignments, sure. But she could have left a decade or two before it became an issue.

It’s that generation that just won’t pass the future on to its kids.

Exactly. We’ve done a good job of not going too deep into the political stuff here so let’s cap the conversation now.

What does suck about the previous generation not passing on the future is that there doesn’t seem to be anybody groomed and ready to take the baton.

That goes for many companies and industries as well.

Correct. She, like the current mummy-in-chief are mere puppets for larger interests.

So-called “Democracy” is an illusion. It’s about manufacturing consent and leadership is determined by a combination of incentives (finance, government employee unions & contracts, etc) and the ability to control the narrative (i.e., brainwash the masses via academia, entertainment, media, etc).

He wants a stadium deal. That’s my theory and I’m sticking to it.

He hates the Athletic and anybody else who challenges him. And as owner he doesn’t have to answer to anybody he doesn’t like.

I will not buy a ticket plan any time soon.

After Looking at the OC Vibe development, (Which is making parking around Honda Center a complete a shit show) the improvements around Disneyland as well as the A town development opposite the stadium on State College , he would be absolutely insane not to want to take another run at that.

And since the Unicorn marketing dream broke his heart it probably gives him a reason to get up everyday

Isn’t there also a new development going in at Tempe Diablo?

Years ago I got into a conflict with a habitually dishonest client and was instructed to never darken their door again. My boss kindly reminded me that even though this guy wasn’t really a big deal in the grand scheme of things, he was however the king of his own little fiefdom and therefor unaccustomed to being challenged. Power is funny that way as even the guy holding the stop sign at the roadside construction site will exercise every bit of power at their disposal.

I’m surprised to see guys experiencing Visa issues. Shouldn’t their agents be handling that and making sure things are good to go? Just seems silly to not be prepared for travel/work in the US when you know months in advance what dates you’ll be working.

Like other people, they don’t worry about it until “Go time.”

We had a certain 1B/DH who had visa problems two or three years in a row. Of course, it had something to do with him being a Cuban defector, living in (I believe) the DR, but I digress……

I used to know an guy who worked in an agency. Literally EVERY Visa issue is the player getting everything done and handed to them by the agent but just not signing something, or returning something in person to an office or mailing it in to a consulate. Literally just not opening the mail that had the Visa stuff in it till the day after they needed to be on a plane.

There are some incredibly stupid people playing sports ball.

LOL, I love every single LH Ofer shocks the world when they “Reveal” they have experience playing 1B (Heavy sigh). 1/2 of all defensive BB positions never play a LHer, only OF & 1B is where they can play. I knew two LH catchers, but they both went pitcher as they both had cannons.

Here at Diablo, they haven’t hit the fields yet.

Pretty much same set up as last year or two, limited access to lower fields but a few more yards for fans to get a bit closer.

One big needed change- security will wand you as you approach the lower fields- new. And welcome.

Reply to  Jeff Joiner

That’s a good question. I think we just don’t realize how much the Rendon disaster impacted everything. The time to go all in would have been in 22 and 23, following Ohtani’s 1st MVP season when you knew what he was. But in 20, Redone looked good and then 21 was his first injured year. You probably would have thought he would be back to normal in 22 but he wasn’t. By the time you realized what you hade with Rendon, Ohtani was gone. The Anthony Rendone situation really set the organization back. That, and Trout kept getting hurt.
