Andrew Wantz started off the festivities today after Tyler Anderson went on the injured list. The Angels also had recently called up Carson Fulmer available, although he didn’t appear in the above video.
Nothing really happened in the first inning. Jo Adell doubled in the top of the second inning with two outs but Michael Stefanic struck out in keeping with the best Angels LOBsterfest tradition. Alex Kirillof singled and Matt Wallner walked to put men at first and second for the Twins. Trevor Larnach singled on the ground through the right side to score Kirillof. 1-0 Twins after two.
David Fletcher singled and Zach Neto got a two out single to create an opportunity for Brandon Drury who doubled to score two. 2-1 Angels.
Carson Fulmer came in to pitch the bottom of the third inning for his first major league appearance since 2021. He served up a nice big old fat home run to Jorge Polanco to make it a 2-2 tie. Max Kepler singled and got advanced to second on a wild pitch. Matt Wallner got hit by a pitch. Fulmer somehow got out of the situation without further scoring, though.
Carson Fulmer’s second inning of work went a little better than his first leaving the score at 2-2. Brett Phillips struck out in the top of the fifth inning but Randal Grichuk and Zach Neto hit back to back doubles to put the Angels ahead 3-2.
Neto was then caught trying to steal third base. Brandon Drury grounded out to end the top of the fifth. The Twins challenged a double play involving a Zach Neto “neighborhood” put out and the call was overturned. It didn’t matter since the Angels got out of the inning with no further scoring.
In the bottom of the sixth, Matt Wallner singled. Ryan Jeffers got a one out triple to tie it at 3-3. Trevor Larnach hit an RBI ground out to make it 4-3 Twins while the rain began falling. Buttercup incoming!
After a rain delay of just under an hour, Louie Varland came in to pitch to Michael Stefanic who reached safely on an infield hit. David Fletcher hit a sac bunt to advance Stefanic to second. Brett Phillips struck out. Randal Grichuk also struck out. Jose Marte came in to pitch for the Angels. He walked Eduard Julien on four pitches. After a Jorge Polanco flyout, Max Kepler hit a second deck homer to make it 6-3 Twins. Marte obviously got the memo. Matt Wallner hit a two out rain-assisted double followed by a Kyle Farmer single. 7-3 Twins. Ryan Jeffers also homered. 9-3 Twins.
In the top of the eighth inning, Logan O’Hoppe and Mike Moustakas both singled. It was all for nought. In the bottom of the eighth inning, Jaime Barria came in to pitch. Can he be worse than Marte? No. He retired the Twins in order. In the top of the ninth inning, Kody Funderburk came in to pitch for the Twins. He walked Michael Stefanic on four pitches. David Fletcher struck out. Pinch hitter Eduardo Escobar grounded a base hit to right. After a Grichuk flyout, Zach Neto fouled a ball off his left leg and spent a long time on his knees. Then he got hit by a pitch. Damn Bro! Bases loaded. Brandon Drury struck out. Game over.

With three AL West teams vying for probably two slots, who is most disheartened by not making the playoffs?
I am (I know, hear me out) kind of pulling for Seattle. I think both Texas (spent so much on FA, like SD) and Houston take it harder.
If Houston misses the playoffs, do they finally declare their run over and try their own tank? They have a lot of money locked up in Verlander, Altuve, Bregman, Abreu, McCullers and Pressly (133M for those six) and they still own Greinke 12.5. They also have the likely high Arb figures for Tucker and Framber Valdez on the horizon – so even with some of their young talent they might need to really consider reloading/tanking too.
You lost me at pulling for Seattle.
Fair enough. I just figure they are already young, so missing the playoffs doesn’t discourage them, and encourages the others.
Someone is going to make it, and they may be the most likely to choke, after all.
I hate Texas (Mavs, Rangers, Astros, Cowboys) more than anything associated with Seattle.
Hoping Mariners get knocked out .
Question: When are Angels post-season tix going on sale?
Amswer: 2027
Optimism,
I see.
I see drug use
Tank considerations aside, I’d like to see the team shut down Canning for the balance. He’s had a decent bounce back year after almost two full seasons of injury. No reason to push the needle further with one more start
IMO.
He’ll be fine. He does Pilates.
To maximize the loss percentage…Sandoval, Fullmer, Suarez, Rosenberg, Daniels…there is your 5-man headed into Tankville
With Diaz as the first man up in each game.
Diaz optioned yesterday
Humor is lost on you.
But it’s only funny if it at least it COULD be true.
Ditto. Humor
is lost on you too.

Oops. My bad there you regular old Andrew Dice Clay you.
100% Diaz will be back before seasons end…they like this guy, they need that guy. Planes take off all day long from SL….See ya soon Diaz’arria. Bring some of your friends along for the ride.
You lot probably discussed it earlier, but Trout is officially done for the year. Not in the least bit surprising, but disappointing nonetheless. A season full of disappointments.
Oh well, at least the UFC is bringing it strong for the final few months of the year.
Well it was no surprise – time to focus on that golf course!

Probably not the best place to get instruction, but I’m sure it would be fun.

“Alright kids, you know everything you learned today? Forget it, do the exact opposite, and you’ll be in the MLB in no time.”
Is this the Platypus’ new analytical method to build a bullpen for 2024?
Embrace the TANK ‘Jankees……it ain’t so bad, it’s kinda fun😀
“The 2023 New York Yankees, dubbed a “disaster” by their own general manager, can now be officially dubbed “eliminated from the playoffs.”
Tank you Marte and the Twins, keeping my hopes alive!
The Mart’e Part’e!
Cardinals are in full TANK mode and probably will not win again this season. They are determined to hold the number 5 spot. The Angels should be similarly intent on holding number 6.
Cards would likely need to win 4 out of 6 (Brewers & Reds) while the Angels win no more that 1 out of 6. Cannot finish in a tie as the Angels swept the Cards this year. Yep, 6th spot if we are lucky.
Texas 9 – Jerry’s 8
With Houston losing a 3-game series to the Mighty Royals, Seattle lost no ground for the last WC slot, sucks
Houston 3-7 last 10 behind Ms now 1/2 game
They battle head-on tomorrow, good stuff
But the Mermen are 4-6 in their last 10 so theres definitely tanking going on at the top too.
I live 10 minutes from Globe Life, so may as well root for the Rangers.
Mariners lose again
Tank, tank, tank!
Can match last year by finishing 3-3.
We should not be rooting for that. We should be rooting for 0-6.
We should be rooting for player development for 2024 .
Next 6 games won’t affect that
every game the kids play (especially if its not in a pennant race) affect that. You cant simulate major league experience.
Agreed but the kids can get experience and still have the team lose.
But what if their success leads to victory?
Do you need to counsel them then?
I think the team could play all young kids. No reason for Moose or any other vets. Sit Drury. Minimize chances of winning. If the kids still win then good for them.
Huh? With all the injuries There’s not enough to field an all kiddie team right now . Plus that’s just piles on more work it will take to get the stench of losing off of the young neophytes before the start of next season
We’re capable of being swept by Oakland
Isn’t that how we ended 2022? Or is was that 21?
