Tank Rampage Postgame

Griffin Canning started tonight. The starting lineup was novel, to say the least.

And ein kliene moodmusik:

In the top of the third, Steven Kwan doubled to lead it off. Jose Ramirez grounded out to advance Kwan to third. Josh Naylor singled to drive Kwan home. 1-0 Guardians.

In the top of the fourth, Gabriel Arias singled to short. Will Brennan also singled to put men on first and second with one out. Bo Naylor singled to score Gabriel Arias. 2-0 Guardians. A couple of other outs made it clear this would likely make this a grinder game, where the Guardians score one run in most innings and the Angels fail to keep up.

In the bottom or the fourth, Randal Grichuk doubled. Chad Wallach advanced him to third with a ground out. Jordyn Adams hit a sac fly to score Grichuk. 2-1 Guardians.

In the fifth, nobody did any thing. In the sixth, Gabriel Arias got one out double. Kolton Ingram replaced Griffin Canning and Will Brennan singled to send Arias to third. Bo Naylor walked and Steven Kwan hit a sacrifice fly to score Gabriel Arias. 3-1 Guardians. Jose Ramirez walked to send Will Brennan to third. Josh Naylor walked to send Bo Naylor to home. 4-1 Guardians. They didn’t score any more. At least there’s that.

Edcuardo Escobar walked and Logan O’Hoppe homered. 4-3 Angels. Grichuk and Wallach made outs. Jordyn Adams singled but got caught stealing on a pick off play. Bret Phillips walked and Jordyn Adams made it all the way to third thanks to a wild pitch. Kyren Paris struck out to end that threat.

Andres Gimenez singled. Gabriel Arias grounded out to send Gimenez to second. It wet for nought as Will Brennan popped out. The Angels did nothing in the seventh inning. Jose Marte came in to pitch and Steven Kwan singled, Jose Ramirez singled, and Josh Naylor hit a sac fly to score Bo Naylor. “Naylor? I hardly even knew her.” 5-3 Guardians. Ramon Laureano also hit a sac fly. 6-3 Guardians.

The Angels went three up three down in the eighth inning. (Yay?) In comes Jimmy Herget to pitch the ninth and he threw a lot of balls. Gabriel Arias struck out. Will Brennan also struck out but Bo Naylor flied out to right. Emmanuel Clase came in to shut the Angels down. Jordyn Adams flied out to left. Brett Phillips worked a full count before grounding out to second. Kyren Paris also grounded out to second base. The Angels lost 6-3. You can fart a stench halo over this one.

Today’s Angels — a bunch of nameless, faceless players, obscure and out of focus.

Hopefully, they can find a manager that will bring some focus. They also need to replace the entire training staff.

Totally. It’s unbelievable that playing an essentially non-contact sport, they have about five times the number of injuries that any nhl team normally has in an 82 game seasonn.

The entire front office and all the staffs need a makeover. Of course….. with Carpino and Arte having serious discussions about which way to move, it could, conceivably get even worse because they don’t seem to have a clue.

Giolitto…Perry trades for him after his team racks him in 2-starts. Easily the crappiest deadline acquisition this year. Hope the Angels pound his ass tonight. I’m willing to withdraw my “tank” chatter for the evening.

Weren’t we tracking Rengifo as the only solid player we’ve had for the entire season who hadn’t been injured at some point?
This has to be some sort of record for injuries in MLB history.

I’m not talking about some general stat like “days on IL”, but having an important player at each and every spot in the entire field missing serious time.

1 Ohtani
2 O’Hoppe
3 Walsh
4 Fletch/Rengifo
5 Rendon
6 Neto
7 Ward
8 Trout
9 OK, Renfroe survived until he was waived.

Util: Urshela, Drury

Good grief.

Seattle has a crybaby cancer in pitcher George Kirby, what a puss. Instead of telling his manager he was gassed after 5, he went out in the sixth to get an out then gave up a double followed by a HR and afterwards blamed his manager for sending him out in the sixth. This pitching 5 innings at 100 pitch count is changing the game and not for the better.

Anderson vs Giolito. Could be 5-5 in the 4th inning

The tiebreaker will be pitch count at that point. Advantage Giolito 91, Anderson 92.
Should be fun.

With MFYankees GM Cashman in the stand, Yoshinobu Yamamoto completed his second career no-no game last night with just 102 pitches, 8 strike outs, 1 walk and 1 HBP. Japanese newspaper reports that it is rare that he travels to Japan to watch a certain player. The last time it happened was when Cashman recruited Masahiro Tanaka. There were 11 other MLB team scouts to evaluate Yamamoto.

It will be a fierce competition between 2 NY MLB teams to seek his service and likely inflate the contract value. He will be only 25 years old when he is posted in November.

The main sticking points……..as I see them. Don’t ask for proof or sources either.
Mike Trout was the last good American HS player we drafted and developed, he’s a 32 yr old man now.
Who was the last good Latin player we signed and developed? K-Rod? Erick Aybar? Ervin Santana? Bengie Molina? Jean Segura? The problem is all of these guys were pre 2010. It’s almost 2024 and I don’t see another in sight.
Mike Witt is the lone American SP who we drafted and developed out of HS that I can think of, and don’t ask me to take a deeper dive because I’m too Josh Hamilton and Anthony Rendon to do it. Dick Schofield, Garrett Anderson, Jim Edmonds all before 2000.
How much longer are we as a organization gonna have to rely on veteran FA’s, American college players and Japanese players? I don’t have that big a problem with these failed trade deadline moves that we made including the catcher because most of best younger players we have are already on the big league roster (Neto and Schanuel). The problem is we can’t invest the time to develop players especially younger players (American HS, and Latin players) and the next question is this a case of we’re not good at it or are we just too impatient for this? In the case of the Yankees it’s usually the latter.

Team Tank will get a Giolito’ed assist!!

So what does that mean in this context?

1.) Gio sucks, we’ll light him up and get a W?

Or

2.) We suck worse than Gio and he shuts us down and we take an L (even though it’s actually a W from a tank perspective)?

Color me confused.

For that shitty of a lineup to score any runs is an indication that Cleveland just isn’t good either.

By the way – what is the definition of safe sex down in Cleveland? Placing signs on the animals that kick.

I’m a Browns fan, but not from Cleveland. Been a few times for games.
Yesterday reading the article about Ward getting hit and us playing the Indians, mouth breathing and loose skulls made me think of Cleveland.

Go Browns! Onto the next disappointing team!

Practical question, if it hasn’t been asked and answered.

Ladies and gentleman of the jury……….

This roster we have here today, 09-08-2023……is the WORST 25 or 24-man roster in franchise history?

My evidence to you is, just look at this incredible piece of 💩 . Everyone watching this team on a daily basis should have access to a crying room. I don’t recall it ever being this bad.

The 71 team was pretty awful, too. At least the 74 team had a “tough and gritty” Dick Williams at the helm for the second half, which did nothing to improve it.

Worst ever 162 game winning percentage 1968 was 67-95 at 414%

1980 65-95 had a worse percentage at 406%…was only 160 games.

1994 47-68 had a worse percentage at 409%…was only 115 games.

In 1974, I was following the exploits of Mr. Ryan (my 1974 Ryan’s TOPPS baseball card remains a prized possession and he was on the cover of Street and Smith’s Baseball magazine that year). I did not know about Tanana yet and had yet to declare myself as an Angels fan (that wouldn’t happen until 1976).

But it seems that the starting pitching was pretty good (Ryan, Tanana, Singer, and Hassler). The bullpen was meh and it looks like the hitting was pretty bad except for a 38 year old Frank Robinson with an OPS of .833.

I would rather ask questions about 1974 than talk about 2023!

I’d have to go all the way back to Angels 2022 to find a worse roster — Velasquez, Captain Jack, and Duffy off the top of my head.

Twebur

This roster is worse. Duffy would be an All-Star-Franchise-Player if he played on this team. Adams alone puts over they top. He’s the worst player on an MLB roster.

Cause, I remember the field we used to shit
In the cursed yard in Anaheim town
Oba, observing the injured list, yeah
Singles off the good people we hit, yeah
Good friends we have had, oh good friends we’ve lost along the waiver wire, yeah
In this bleak future, you can’t forget your past
So dry your tears Heeeefo I say, yeah

Nothing’s going to be alright
Nothing’s going to be alright
Nothing’s going to be alright
Nothing’s going to be alright
Nothing’s going to be alright
Nothing’s going to be alright
So No Moreno, no cry
No Moreno, no cry, I say
Oh little, oh little Heeeeefo, don’t shed no tears
No Moreno, no cry, eh
