Angels Out-loved by Phillies in 6-4 loss

Ah, the City of Brotherly Love… well, sometimes. It is more like the city of constant booing and breaking lamps and making Santa cry but they do have some love to share at times. Could they give some to the Angels or will they throw batteries?

Lucas Giolito could use some of that love. Instead, it all went to Trea Turner, who has been on fire after Philadelphia stopped booing him. And him and Harper slaughtered Lucas as the trade deadline dud went 5 and 2/3 innings giving up 5 runs on 4 hits, striking out 6 and walking 4. Oh no… who could have seen that coming…

The offense would have to pick him up and yeah, that wasn’t going to happen. Not this team. Not in August. Too little, too late as they say.

Highlighted Recap

Rengifo got the Angels on the board first with an rbi single.

1-0 Angels

That lead did not last as Lucas Giolito gave up a home run to Trea Turner right after that.

Tied game

Drury gave the Angels the lead again with a 2 run single of his own.

3-1 Angels

Again it did not last as Harper tied it up immediately after.

Bruh

And then Trea Turner gave the Phillies the lead in the 5th.

5-3 Phillies

The offense rallied in the 7th, bringing home a run on small ball.

5-4 Phillies

The bullpen did not help, as Leone gave up a run to former Angel Brandon Marsh.

6-4 Phillies

Angels lose, again. Ugh.

Upcoming

More Angels at Phillies, all early games. At least this way you do not HAVE to watch, right?

Arte should relocate the team to rural town Murphys, California.

He could call the team Murphys Law

I don’t really care if the Angels lose, they are not good at all with no No. 1 or No. 2 level starter. All I care is that they go higher on this list.

Then we have to start cheering for Guardians, Padres, gNats, Mets, Tigres, Bucks, Cardinals, White Sox, Rockies, KC & the Sunshine Band, and A’s to win for the remainder of the season. Got it. 16.5% is not a hopium dream.

They’ll mess that up too….can’t win when we need to, won’t lose when we needs to.

Tony Gonsolin is scheduled to undergo Tommy John surgery on this Friday by Dr. ElAttrache. The Dodgers have contacted Sho if he would be interested in having BOGO for Tommy John. (Italicized for satirical effect) 😆

Changing the hitting and pitching approaches might be the least costly changes with the largest positive impacts for next year.

The scary thing is that you can’t blame injuries anymore. Adding Trout and Neto isn’t going to make this a playoff team.

The injuries excuse has been overused since 2016, it’s all so tiresome

You still can because they still happen.
It is tiresome but it happens every year and to key players. Its would be nice to have our IL Healthy and playing peak September Baseball.

Funny though, Nolan would be in AA, Rengifo a bench player, Velazquez in AAA

When things happen over and over again, it’s not luck. You can’t call consistently successful teams “lucky” and consistently bad teams “unlucky”. The Angels consistent injury problems are not bad luck – they are a symptom of something very wrong with this Organization. Whether it’s training, nutrition, strength and conditioning etc the injury bug has its basis in something other than bad luck.

Lots of fans, including ones that post here, believe this team would have made postseason if not for the injuries. You’ll probably hear the same from Nevin and Perry after the season officially ends. I guess I need to start smoking what they are because this was a .500 team at best coming out of Spring training.

Completely agree. And as many of us have said .500 or slightly over would be a great result after last year’s record So my prediction of 83 wins was actually an optimistic one even though it was unlikely to put the team in the playoffs.

I believe that Fangraphs predicted 84 wins for the Angels at the beginning of the year.

So much for winning the prize pitcher at the trade deadline, Giolito sucks but hey, every other competing team wanted him too. Typical Angel luck we got him. We should keep Thaiss around cause it sure looks like OHoppe can’t hit yet. Renfro is washed not worth re-signing 20hr/230 avg who is horrible with men in scoring position. Goodbye Grichuk, Cron, Velazquez, Next year play more of the kids and access were to go from there.

I called it when I said it was Dan Haren and Zack Greinke all over again and how they will not make the playoffs. But most people were busy saying “nu-uh it will be different this time. Sweet sweet insanity

We had Dan Harden for another year and Giolitto is no Greinke.

And even when they had him for another year, they still did not make the playoffs. The point is that they traded prospects for a rental pitcher excluding Haren, and they end up choking near the end.

According Rhett Bollinger, Sho has not had second medical opinion.
https://www.mlb.com/news/shohei-ohtani-s-injury-raises-questions-for-angels?game_pk=716817

There is no way that Sho (and Nez Balelo) would allow himself to continue to play unless he had medical opinion from Dr. ElAttrache. He is not that foolish. With the injury being different location and the degree of tear unknown, I have to assume that it is ok for Sho to delay surgery until the end of baseball season with the specialist’s approval.

Sho will now just focus on batting, still doing his best to help the Angels win as many games as possible, and aim to win the MLB homerun crown and reach 400 TB.

They are only as good as the sum of their parts and sum of those parts are steamed dog doodie. This has got to be the worst fail in the franchise’s history. Like relocate the team to North Dakota bad. 💩

There’s good news, though. If Seattle can beat Oakland tonight our magic number for clinching at least 4th place in the division will be reduced to 6

suddenly the clouds open and a 🌈 streams from the heavens illuminating all below. A unicorn gallops besides this rainbow over Angels stadium and Artie hops on to never be seen again. Magical!

Drury also had three hits today. In some way, I blame Sho for not advancing to 3rd with Rengifo’s first rbi base hit. That may have taken away some of the Angels mojo we had today. Logan not being able to score Mickey from third with only one out also hurt.

Yes, Drury had a solid game. Glad he’s signed for next season.

Sho had an ugly day in the batter’s box.

This team sucks! We lost the Gump trade! I knew in Spring Training that we sucked! We should have traded for players that have only played good after the trade deadline! Arte should have sold the team! Glad i gave up my 20 game package! They raised the price of beer! And Parking! Fuck the City of Anaheim, Arte, Andrew, Shohei’s UCL, Trout’s wrist, every bone on Rendone, all the players, coaches, staff and the helpful Honda people who never pick me for seat upgrades. Also Jerome’s furniture and free wings bc the Angels don’t score 10 runs!

But see you tomorrow for game 2
