Shane Victorino and MLB join the calls to help Hawaii after the wildfires. Michael Lorenzen earned a Player of the Week nod with his no-hitter.
By mutual agreement between the player and the club, Wander Franco is on the Restricted List at least for the Giants series and the rest of the current road trip.
My Internet is on the blink today. Sorry.

This just in:
The Rally Monkey has left the team for “undisclosed personal leave.”
No more details are available at this time.
In a just uncovered related story, the Santa Ana Zoo reported that the Rally Monkey was linked to an adolescent spider monkey in their care.
Eyewitness news, film at eleven!
They must have searched Rally Monkey’s social media posts. `;~]]
I am a fan of the Marlins, Reds, Nats, Phillies, Braves, KC & the Sunshine Band, Padres, and Giants today.

Kiyo holding it down to the bitter end.
A few of us are like the last defenders of Thermopylae or The Alamo for the historically continental centric.
This was a song I frequently heard when I was in high school in Hawaii, listening to Casey Kasem Top 40 on radio. It was one of the popular songs for weekend dance outings. I used to wait for Sears (in Ala Moana Shopping Center) to have sale on LPs for $3.99. The bus fare in Honolulu was a dime one way. I was envious of my friend who owned 6 LP multi play turntable.
I think we’re in a similar age bracket.
I came of age musically during my teens in the 80’s and was completely into alternative, dark wave & gothic music – still am to be honest.
Remember Tower Records? I would literally hang out there all day & multiple times per week.
Brutal looking lineup on paper. Let’s hope we get a “broken clock” like outburst somehow, someway….
Thank you for posting the lineup. (The last time you did that, the Angels won.) It is intriguing lineup in that only leftie Angel hitter is Sho and the rest are righty or switch. The Angels need to score first and often to provide psychological lift for Giolito.
The Foundation Building Materials’ keystone of the game for the Angels tonight against the Rangers is “Nobody Loves You When You’re Down and Out” by John Lennon.
Twelve to nothing? Eleven to three? Twice? Meatheaded Phil. No-bat Squid. Rengifo gaffe-o. Detmers, Barria, and Loup, oh my! Where did you go, Mickey Mo-niak? Rendone, don’t get me started. Going all in? How about a nice losing streak for you? And injuries, injuries, injuries, read all about ‘em. Grrrr, grrrrawwwl, and a long Yoko Ono caterwaullllll!

You are easily the most consistently interesting person that frequents this site. Never stop doing you.
Daniel Murphy?
David Fletcher?
Time to DFA Velazquez?
38 games with the Bees
.295 AVG
.379 OPB
.362 SLG
.741 OPS
Which for the Great Salt Lake is not Great.
Plus he dont play shortstop ( Not sure Fletch, Vasquez or Soto can either)
SLC boosts someone’s power stats, not their BA, besides of course….not being MLB pitching.
Huh?
The entire PCL boosts batting average, OBP, Slugging & OPS.
The higher altitude parks ( Reno, SLC, Las Vegas, Albuquerque) are even worse inflators.
mustachioed andrew velazquez is the gift that keeps on giving
Daniel Murphy, please.
Fletcher is absolutely washed. What more do we need to see?
And Fletchers numbers are actually better than Murphy’s in AAA.
62 games
.360 AVG
.415 OPB
.461 SLG
.865 OPS
Sure, but we’ve seen Fletch flail at this level for the better part of 2+ years. I’d like to
see if Murphy has anything to offer.
Well According to his law, he doesn’t
🤣
But if he’s doing worse than Fletch art AAA then why would you hope he’d do better w/ the Angels?
For the same reason that most of us want Adell to sink or swim at this level. Some dudes perform better under the bright lights.
We already know what Fletcher is and that’s a .200 hitter with no power that can no longer run.
well he just announced his retirement. Happy trails.
Well sh*t, I suppose that puts
a dagger into that relatively pointless debate. Haha
I finally found a Halos blog where I can commiserate.
I’m all for Fletch relieving me of having to watch Rengifo. I don’t care if he flounders. At least Fletch tries on every play.
Haven’t been following the thinking around here lately, but curious what the postmortem is on the decision to drop Joe Maddon last year now that we’ve had 1+ season of Nevin? Would we be any better off under Joe at this point? Perhaps it would have been the same result.
I don’t dislike Phil, but I think that Maddon is the superior manager and was let go prematurely.
I’m in the same boat, Phil is ok. I just wonder if Joe’s style would have been better at managing the clubhouse through adversity. Who knows, probably will have someone new next year.
Not sure it would have mattered with our pitching.
The implosion of Sandoval & Detmers has been as detrimental to this season as the injuries.
I agree – strategically and tactically Joe is superior.
I disagree…..both Joe and Phillip should be gone.
Have no idea who should or will replace Phil.
A cardboard cutout
If it’s acceptable for public office, it’s acceptable for baseball managerial jobs.
You could be right. Then again, I tend to think baseball managers are largely irrelevant or perhaps “mid” at most.
It’s about talent. And then health. And then talent.
Should have kept Maddon, and I was one that at the time was glad to see him go.
At least see what Difference the mohawk might have made
When I saw the name Shane Victorino I thought Minasian had added him to the active roster. He could’ve helped, even at his age.
Bring back the Navapile
Back to the old drawing board for Angel Hernandez.
I don’t know, and maybe it’s just me, but spitballing here – perhaps the reason why you’ve been passed over Mr. Hernandez is because YOU SUCK at your job?
I tried reaching out to Angel for an interview but he repeatedly missed the call.
He granted me an interview, but would only answer questions that were way outside the box.
🤣
When is the Barbie 2 movie coming out?
B2: The Next Day
B2: The Walk of Shame
When are the National Cornhole Championship playoffs begin?
Cornhole? Nah. If you seek excitement and death-defying thrills, nothing beats the sport of American Hobby Horse competition. It’s pure gamesmanship, at least as physically grueling as running – but it’s also 100% about your physical/mental ability. It also requires emotional strength not to laugh at yourself and the other competitors.

Oh wow, I’m starting my training at 1:30 am tomorrow morning.
So, when is marathon season starting?
ASL?
I reminds me of when manager Mike used to respond to the criticisms of Mickey Hatcher by saying no one works harder. Now we have Phil defending the poor performance of his players by saying they’re all working really hard. Maybe we just need better players. 🙂 And it’s hard not to want to root for Phil because he seems like such a decent guy but he just doesn’t seem to know what he’s doing.
Regarding Mr. Wise, when your pitchers can barely get through 3-4 innings for multiple starts, it kind of makes you wonder what’s happening in between to perhaps produce different results.
You don’t get outscored in the last 13 games 85 to 42, and outplayed in nearly every dimension of the game IF you are playing hard AND have major league talent.
Nevin’s comments indicate he’s part of the problem and not part of the solution.
Amen. Although isn’t part of the problem in this or with very few exceptions.
I listened to Nevin’s post-game presser, and he asserted that his team gave a good effort but had a poor focus; as if focus and effort are not at all related.
All managers speak this way. I’ll repeat that – ALL managers speak this way.
Attempting to glean anything meaningful from “coach speak” from any manager is a futile task.
The fact that people take “coach speak” seriously is hilarious to me.
Not all managers…..at least back in the day.
When men were men and Managers had GRIT.
bev-boat.wav – Tommy Lasorda on Padre outfielder Kurt Bevacqua: “Or f***ing Bevacqua, who couldn’t hit water if he fell out of a f***ing boat.”
campanis.wav – Tommy Lasorda on whose fault it is: “Ain’t my f***ing fault? Campanis is the f***ing guy.”
noteasy.wav – Tommy Lasorda: “This f***ing job is not that f***ing easy!”
opinion.wav – Tommy Lasorda: “What the f*** do you think was my opinion of it? I think it was f***ing b*llsh*t.”
garvlong.wav – The Steve Garvey tape. Lasorda saying Garvey would need a f***ing oar to hit that ball, and that he’d make a f***ing great, f***ing cricket player!
Tommy was my all time favorite Dodger…RIP.
Tommy was quite the character.
I doubt he would have managed any other team than the Doyers with the possible exception of that Cleveland Steamers team.
He’d likely be unemployable in this era of authoritarian sensitivity.
The words “back in the day” are doing some deadweight lifting here.
Our society, including its thoroughly corrupted institutions, can no longer acknowledge objective reality… you know, that men & women are biologically different, etc etc etc.
“Coach Speak” and its corollary are “Athlete Speak” are about as informative as the dirt on the bottom of my shoes.
We need a Hal McRae object throwing manager to wake these guys up
Or Jim Mora just for fun.

It’s up to Giolito to justify the trade with a quality performance tonight. Confidence level on a scale of ten? 3.
The lack of hitting doesn’t help either. Apparently they need Cron in the lineup even if he is banged up and not hitting. Why does Squid play ever?
Squid plays just in case he has one of those 4/200 ABs when he hits a homer and/or 185/1000 ABs when he actually gets a hit.
Because Rendon, Neto & Urshella are injured and Rengifo plays every day and at multiple positions.
If the aforementioned three players weren’t injured, Squid wouldn’t sniff the big league roster.
They have real shortstops in the minors that would be a better investment than Squid. Soto being one of them.
I don’t disagree. In fact, I’d advocate for Soto, but I’m just completely over the reflexive & wrongheaded response that David “I’m totally washed” Fletcher is the answer to said problem.
We’ve all got our cross the bare. For many it’s Rengifo, for me it’s apparently Fletcher.
Embarrassing is the word that comes to mind this morning.
We’re still only 7 games out of the WC…it’s been done before.
It’s impossible to be this inept without actually trying to be this inept. There is no doubt – the players have given up.
Another quake, another sinkhole season. Certainly next year will be the same, but slightly different.
Angels vs A’ss battle for the bottom AL WEST 2024.
At least we match up equally with the A’s…….
I hate cigarettes but damn those Marlboro ads were cool.
And what? 18 trains a day?
Makes want to start smoking.
Do you bet on sports?
I’ve learned over the the years betting on the better team over the last 40 games of the season is one of the better bets in sports. You’ll win at a roughly .667 clip during this period because the better team tend to start steamrolling to the finish.
There are multiple reasons for this, but it’s a combination of talent + momentum IMO.
So you’re really saying we’re not one of the better teams? 😭
At this juncture no.
We coulda’ been a contenda’ but alas circumstances conspired against us.
