LA Angels Monday News Crash

Explore the Angels’ minor league ballparks.

The Mets will sign Kodai Senga. The deal is for five years and $75 Million. Here is the latest on which teams are bidding for Carlos Rodon.

Kevin Kiermaier and the Blue Jays reached an agreement.

Abraham Almonte seems to have failed his physical and will not be playing for the LG Twins of the KBO. Also in the KBO, Guillermo Heredia signed with the SSG Landers. The Kiwoom Heroes signed Addison Russell and Eric Jokisch. Meanwhile, Frank Schwindel signed with the Orix Buffaloes in Japan.

Vasquez is no big loss, 3-years, no thanks. Alfaro is more of a wild card, good arm, quick pop times and has speed on the base paths. He is the anti-Stassi.

I was just in Huntsville! Unfortunately, I was not able to visit Toyota Field, but I can vouch for the USSRC.

I’m super interested, there was a period of my childhood where I wanted to learn to fly and go to space. Would still love to work there one day.

Or JPL, that would rock.

We signed the wrong Justin and the Wrong Garza.

I wonder if Perry knows that,

Nevin and Suzuki were probably in Perry’s ear about needing another Titan in the organization.

It would not be Wise to ignore Matt either but as long as they haven’t reached their Titan quota maybe they can bring Lorenzen back too?

Senga, Manea and Bassit all gone! C’mon Perry, let’s go!
🙂

Meanwhile the A’s, Brewers and Braves just swapped their entire rosters….

“We could have given him that contract!”
– One of the many mating calls of the stupid fan.

And look at that. We survived the Winter Meeting even with Twitter being owned by Musk. We even figured out all on our own without departmental protection that Arson Judge had not signed with the Giants and that those same Giants are not really all that interested in Bassitt. Because being protected from misinformation generally just means someone has decided whose misinformation we will be allowed to see. It doesn’t make any of these twits any less full of it.

Sean Manaea is reportedly signing a 2yr, $25 million deal. Old friends Jose Quintana and Andrew Heaney got 2 year deals for $26m and $25m apiece. I think I’d rather have Tyler Anderson’s 3yr, $39m than any of these guys.

I like Manea. Not sure what happened to him in those two starts against the Dodgers. Other than those he was his typical self.

That said, yes Anderson at 3/39 is looking to be the steal of the off season.

Except that the Giants got Manea for 2 yrs at $12.5M
plus a opt out clause vs Anderson who’s coming off a career yr with a team who won 111 games for 3 yrs. Rather have Manea who’s got better stuff when healthy, and a OOC if things don’t work out which is usually the case with us.
The Giants have Farhan Zaidi running things and we have Perry who by now you know how I feel about him.

Manaea and Anderson have nearly identical ERA, K rate, BB rate numbers. One of them played most of his career in a hitter friendly park in Coors and the other at a pitcher friendly park in the Coliseum. Anderson gets better once he left Coors and Manaea got worse after leaving Oakland.

For the same AAV, I’ll take Anderson any day.

Being a Giant fan, not happy with Manea. He really blew a tire in the 2nd half last year, not just the Dodgers.

The 3rd year of Anderson is kind of ugly and had to kick in a pick. Good deal but not exactly a smoke job.

If Manea is good next season its a one year deal. if Manea is bad or mediocre Frisco is saddled with a 2 year commitment.

on the MILB ballparks

no mention of my favorite affiliate?? The AZL Angels playing out of Tempe Diablo Stadium?? I should get there more than i have but watching 19 yr olds in 105F at 7pm isn’t fun especially when it doesn’t cool off as the evening goes on. But if there are top prospects, it is worth the trip. For instance, i caught Adell’s very first professional game.

Maybe my favorite MILB ballpark is Portland’s Providence Park. It was built in the 1920s and my grandpa took me there in the late 60s to see some games there. It was an Indians affiliate back then (Ray Fosse!). They haven’t played baseball there in awhile because now its the home of the MSL franchise.

Only other one i went to is RC about 20 years ago, to see Kotchman, Mathis, McPherson – that was a nice park.

Providence Stadium was also home of the Portland Mavericks many years ago as shown in the Battered Bastards of Baseball documentary. That would have been an awesome experience and a great place to watch a ballgame.

Downtown Portland was nice to visit back when (loved Jake’s Crawfish) and fun to watch games in. However actually playing baseball on that field was more like carpet on concrete with huge seams that rocketed balls at your face or privates. Those are my memories from that place.

I also played at Sam Lynn in Bakersfield in the 80s/90s. It was old and creaky but had a cool old school feel as long as it wasn’t 105 degrees outside.

I went to Rancho Cucawhatever about 15 years ago and it was cool. Much nicer than Sam Lynn in Bakersfield and just a bit below Goodyear (not a minors park, but comparable).

Thanks for that link, Charles. Pretty cool.

Lake Elsinore Diamond/Storm Stadium

Haven’t been there since the mid 1990’s to watch the Angels, but it was a nice stadium, not sure how it’s aged…….one game in 1994 saw Todd Greene hit about 4 missiles that still might be rolling around somewhere in the Lake Elsinore dirt. After the game hung out in the bar overlooking the field with Crazy George. Heard the story about him creating “The Wave”…. The Jonas Salk of sport stadium fandom.

I love going to MiLB games. When I lived close to the Inland Empire I went to quite a few minor league games. Next year (early 2024) my wife and I are retiring to Puerto Rico and we intend to go to a lot of games there. There are quite a few teams to follow on the island and a lot of nice stadiums. I am honing up on my Spanish so I can understand the announcers who my wife tells me are very animated. We are looking forward to it a lot 😀

Legit had no idea they had a MiLB team in WA. Thought it was just SLC, Bama, and San Berdoo.
